To object to the white company seeing my husband a pink nightie

Imaginetoday · 11/12/2020 22:10

Ordered a men’s grey dressing gown for DH birthday today from white company. They delivered about 5 days ago. I didn’t check
He opens box...and I am not kidding...there was a pink nightie. lacy.
He wasn’t happy😳🤭
I spent over 1 hour in total trying to get through . Item now out of stock.
Husband has no present- other than a pink nightie which is too small for him anyway. Joking aside he was quietly pretty pissed off with me.
AIBU to think that this is either outstanding incompetency, or some jolly pick-packers idea of hilarity in their warehouses
Anyone else experiencing such **service from the White Company.

Why do people here need to make this bigger than it is 🤔

It’s funny but I would secretly be a bit pissed/disappointed too, I’d be like why didn’t you check it? Is this really not a joke..etc etc

I’m sure he’ll see the funny side eventually but would be the same in his shoes 🤷🏻‍♀️ Especially as the dressing gown is now out of stock 🤦🏻‍♀️😅

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 11/12/2020 23:50

Who doesn’t check a gift before handing it over, though? That seems a little bit silly...

BigBadVoodooHat · 11/12/2020 23:50

YABU- who doesnt check their order is correct when they receive it before giving it as a gift? And then when the wrong item is dispatched, who assumes it is an elaborate prank from poor warehouse workers rather than a simple admin mistake?

Yes to all of the above.

New Look sent me an entirely incorrect order this week: I ordered 8 items, every single one of which was the completely wrong item. It was a mistake. It’s a very busy time of year, more so this year as fewer people are shopping in stores. Temp Christmas staff in the warehouses are run off their feet.

But it was all fine because I checked the order, discovered the error, and managed to get hold of the correct items. It only becomes a drama if you make it into one.

jessstan1 · 11/12/2020 23:52

You're not unreasonable but mistakes happen. Presumably the White Company will refund and pay return postage.

Look online for something else for him, from somewhere else.

DuzzyFuck · 11/12/2020 23:54

I really have no idea why you think this was done deliberately OP, on what basis? Have you ever worked in a high-pressured, low-paid fulfilment role? At this time of year people in those roles don't have time to come up with 'silly japes' they could never possibly see the outcome of FGS.

LH1987 · 12/12/2020 00:03

My DH would have found this hilarious and it would have been a great story for the future!

KeyboardWorriers · 12/12/2020 00:10

Sounds annoying and baffling but what is far more astonishing is that your husband is pissed off with you. I would have roared with laughter if this happened to me. Is he usually like this?

MalingeringMary · 12/12/2020 00:14

It's November. Peak present season. During a fucking pandemic. These things happen, you both need to get the fuck over it. Jesus.

leopardspotsdotdotdot · 12/12/2020 00:17

@Imaginetoday

I’m more **ed off with the company...I just find it completely weird for them to have picked a completely different item ..women’s clothing...just seems too much of a hilarious jape some twat decided to do. And cos they’re out of stock I have no replacement...they’re not restocking till January And waiting so bloody long on phone lines
Just email your complaint. Ask for a free replacement maybe? Send it back. Get refund, and in the mean time give him a birthday blow job. I’m sure he’ll appreciate that more!

Sorry to make light of it. Just men don’t usually care as much as we do!

Meatshake · 12/12/2020 00:19

I bet the item was in the wrong spot in the warehouse so it's been picked incorrectly. Or your dressing gown has gone to a customer who was expecting a nightie. I doubt it was done deliberately, just a case of poor pay apathy and busy time of year.

As for your husband. Wow, he needs to get over himself! Bet he's heaps of fun at parties Confused

fraudanddeception · 12/12/2020 00:24

I'm sorry but the added detail that it was too small is hilarious.

Like it would have done at a pinch otherwise.

He's quietly pissed off because not only did you give him a pink nightie, it was too small. The final insult.

Peppafrig · 12/12/2020 00:28

Have you never made a mistake ? They just got two orders mixed up. Humans can always make errors .

GlowingOrb · 12/12/2020 00:28

I do tons of shopping online and that means the occasional wrong item. One company sent me the incorrect order 3 times in a row. I finally just asked for a refund because clearly the wrong barcode was on the box in the warehouse and I was found to keep getting the same wrong thing over and over until the crate was empty. They were very nice about it and had me donate the errant items to charity since I couldn’t use them.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 12/12/2020 00:31

My DH would have cracked up laughing, and tried to put it on. Do try to see the funny side, OP.

CatholicKidston · 12/12/2020 00:36

Does his grey dressing gown have to come from White Company? Only it does sound quite a lot like the kind of thing you could get elsewhere Xmas Confused

VenusTiger · 12/12/2020 00:38

You're upset with The White Company for making a mistake and your DH is upset with you for not checking what you'd ordered for him for his birthday - as much as I don't agree with him being pissed off, I do agree that he should be upset that you couldn't even be bothered to check? It's like you don't care imo - you've clicked on an item, it's arrived and you've given it to him - no effort on your part at all really, not even looked at it for size/comfort, not wrapped - just passed on from the delivery person - maybe that's what he's upset about - the lack of care?

SilverBirchWithout · 12/12/2020 00:42

This is baffling.
Surely the weight and size of the box would have alerted you that it didn’t contain a dressing gown even without opening to check. And everyone checks their online deliveries when they arrive?

1forAll74 · 12/12/2020 01:06

It's the Christmas rush in the warehouses, things can go haywire sometimes..

80sColourfulChristmas · 12/12/2020 01:09

@WilsonMilson

Surely your DH could see the funny side? I think mine would laugh his head off. These things happen and I’m sure you’ll get it sorted eventually. I had an issue with a cardigan I ordered for my mother, they sent her gigantic pants in a size 22 instead, quite hilarious given she’s a very slender woman. She thought it was hilarious, got it sorted easily enough.

I think both of you need to lighten up a bit.

Gigantic pants in a size 22 Nice bit of fat shaming there love
DuzzyFuck · 12/12/2020 10:13

@80sColourfulChristmas

Have a day off, perhaps PP referred to said pants as 'gigantic' because they were the type that come up to your nipples and down your thigh-tops, rather than being a bikini or midi style. I wear a 12 but the full coverage type in my size are indeed 'gigantic' compared to a size 12 thong.

Imaginetoday · 12/12/2020 10:19

@Alternista

No Daily Mail #sadface, no compo. You know the rulez.

Seriously though, I’m mostly taken aback that you didn’t bother opening it at ALL to check it. Did you give it to him still in the plastic postage bag? No gift wrap? Did it not feel surprisingly light for a men’s dressing gown?

No, it was in a nice box. I wrapped the box!
OP posts:
Meatshake · 12/12/2020 10:37

Did you not think "this feels a bit light" when wrapping? Dressing gowns are big, nighties are not.

Bullshit alert 🤣

Imaginetoday · 12/12/2020 10:39

Ok, I’m being unreasonable in thinking someone decided to have a joke. Hands up I failed to check. Lesson learnt.
So, maybe being on the phone for over an hour on hold got the better of me yesterday. I’d rather have been enjoying a relaxing day with DH.

He wasn’t a petulant child as some of you implied ...just a bit pissed off. He wanted a dressing gown. We’re not well off, and actually this lightweight one was hard to find at this time of year for something I can actually afford. Hence it’s out of stock now. He’s been ill for some time and is currently getting too hot in his old fluffy one. His lack of humour over this is because he’s tired and unwell. . It was actually quite a nice gown. Give the guy a break....
And no, I’ll not wear it and for those of you suggesting I wear it for his “present”...go and look at it..( link kindly provided by previous poster) it’s not exactly alluring!

My DH would have found that hilarious. I once ordered pyjamas for myself from Marks. Instead I got an age 6 Elsa nightie. I was amused, not offended.
