To object to the white company seeing my husband a pink nightie

Imaginetoday · 11/12/2020 22:10

Ordered a men’s grey dressing gown for DH birthday today from white company. They delivered about 5 days ago. I didn’t check
He opens box...and I am not kidding...there was a pink nightie. lacy.
He wasn’t happy😳🤭
I spent over 1 hour in total trying to get through . Item now out of stock.
Husband has no present- other than a pink nightie which is too small for him anyway. Joking aside he was quietly pretty pissed off with me.
AIBU to think that this is either outstanding incompetency, or some jolly pick-packers idea of hilarity in their warehouses
Anyone else experiencing such **service from the White Company.

OP posts:
Carouselfish · 11/12/2020 22:49

He sounds childish and without a sense of humour.

FlippinNoah · 11/12/2020 22:50

Is he pissed off because he wanted a Dressing Gown of Doom?

BorisSortYourHairOutAndBrexit · 11/12/2020 22:56

I can’t imagine most warehouse workers have time to piss about having a laugh and deliberately mucking up peoples orders.
I expect it was incorrectly labelled or in the wrong place or something like that.
An inconvenience but not that much of a big deal surely 🤷🏻‍♀️

bellie710 · 11/12/2020 23:01

Sorry your DH must be a dick I can not see anyone getting upset over this and not seeing the funny side? Who gets upset when a pink nightie turns up instead of a dressing gown? Are there even men that wear dressing gowns??

TatianaBis · 11/12/2020 23:03

White company sent me a horrible fake fur jacket I hadn’t ordered.

Pipandmum · 11/12/2020 23:05

Mistakes happen. Probably some young lady out there wondering why her husband bought her a mans dressing gown!
But why didn't you check? I always do to make sure item is what I ordered because, as you know, mistakes happen.

melj1213 · 11/12/2020 23:05

YABU- who doesnt check their order is correct when they receive it before giving it as a gift? And then when the wrong item is dispatched, who assumes it is an elaborate prank from poor warehouse workers rather than a simple admin mistake?

I work for a supermarket that has a clothing department. I have been to one of our click and collect warehouses and clothes arent set out like in stores - they are in a box on a shelf with each one having a unique code and they are laid out in the most efficient way - so mens and ladies clothing aren't separate and it might seem illogical to have mens dressing gowns in the bin next to ladies nighties but the computer algorithm will have determined that it works best for order picking flow. The warehouse operative just gets a list of locations and will collect them together in a tote and then they will be sent to someone else to be packaged and then sent to the sorting area to be labelled and sent to the correct store. At any one of those stages - picking, packing or sending - there could be an error made (either by the system sending the picker to the wrong location, the picker misreading the code, the item being misplaced, labels being mixed up etc.

Why didnt you check your order when it arrived? Did you really just give him the package as it arrived in the post? Even if I wasnt going to wrap a present (some online orders come in their own presentation/gift box) I would still open it to a) confirm it was the right item and b) to ensure there wasnt any order forms in the package with my information or prices etc.

hulahooper2 · 11/12/2020 23:05

Why is he pissed off with you , it’s not your fault

PawPawNoodle · 11/12/2020 23:11

I once ordered something from Size? - a pair of mens size 11 Vans, and received a pair of womens size 4 Nikes. As it turned out it was a problem with their order management software rather than someone in the warehouse pulling a 'jape'; the item was actually out of stock but was showing as in stock online, so the software in its infinite wisdom filled my order with another item in order to fulfil it.

Just go to a shop or send it back for a refund, no ones pulling a prank on you.

tara66 · 11/12/2020 23:14

You would think they would have a good stock for plain white kid's bath robes - but when I looked online recently they were sold out every size except 3 years old!

MaryLeeOnHigh · 11/12/2020 23:15

Seems a real shame your husband is pissed off with you. Mine would find this hilarious, and he'd probably dine out on it for ever.

IHeartNiles · 11/12/2020 23:19

Mine would have loved it much more than a boring old dressing gown.

Giraffey1 · 11/12/2020 23:20

Your H is a bit daft for being upset, but honestly, why did you not check the goods when they arrived? You should ALWAYS check that you have received the right thing, that it’s the right size /colour / not broken / has all the pieces etc. You could have avoided this disappointment.

Baycob · 11/12/2020 23:21

Why don’t you put it on as his present 😂

Rockhopper81 · 11/12/2020 23:23

I'm at a loose end this evening, so I had a look on The White Company webpage for a pink lacy nightdress. This was the only one I found, so I'm guessing it was this one you were sent in error?

Does your husband honestly think you paid £49 for a wind-up present??

I do think you're at fault for not opening it before wrapping it as a gift - I cannot imagine doing that, precisely to check what is in the box is what I ordered (and in one piece).

It was a mistake - warehouses are manic at the moment, it sucks if you get the result of a mistake, but we all make them. Not sure it was 'outstanding incompetency'. It sounds like your annoyance with The White Company (who I'm not defending here, I have never bought from them) is magnified because your husband made it out to be all your fault. That's an issue on his end, not yours.

CoRhona · 11/12/2020 23:25

My DH would have thought that was bloody hilarious...

SimplyRadishing · 11/12/2020 23:26

😂😂😂
Omfg my husband and I would DIE laughing if this happened

It's an accident...it happens
unclench, it's not a big deal....

MisfitRightIn · 11/12/2020 23:28

My husband would have laughed his head off at this. Your partner was unreasonable to be cross about a mistake. He’s not a child, he’s a grown man with 30 years of marriage under his (dressing gown) belt.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 11/12/2020 23:30

@Imaginetoday

I’m more **ed off with the company...I just find it completely weird for them to have picked a completely different item ..women’s clothing...just seems too much of a hilarious jape some twat decided to do. And cos they’re out of stock I have no replacement...they’re not restocking till January And waiting so bloody long on phone lines
It’s obviously just a mistake. No one did it on purpose. 🙄🙄

And your DH is a bit odd to be angry with you about it...

CeibaTree · 11/12/2020 23:32

OP this is clearly a mistake. Why on earth do you think someone did this deliberately? This is a really odd reaction from you. I get that it's annoying, but you really should have checked when it arrived - unless you'd paid to have it gift-wrapped?

FizzyPink · 11/12/2020 23:35

Oh god they are totally useless at the moment. I tried every channel to reach them after they delivered my parcel to the wrong house, left it on the doorstep in the rain and then when I finally located it discovered they’d sent me a room spray instead of a body wash.
They then asked me to post the room spray back to them Hmm Obviously by this point the body wash was out of stock so they said I’d get a refund. I’m yet to receive it though

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/12/2020 23:38

I once ordered cleanser from John Lewis and received silicon egg poaching pods. I did think the box was a bit light. They let me keep the pods, refunded me £10, and sent the cleanser the next day. The pods are very good.

Alternista · 11/12/2020 23:38

No Daily Mail #sadface, no compo. You know the rulez.

Seriously though, I’m mostly taken aback that you didn’t bother opening it at ALL to check it. Did you give it to him still in the plastic postage bag? No gift wrap? Did it not feel surprisingly light for a men’s dressing gown?

Somethingkindaoooo · 11/12/2020 23:43

Quietly pissed off?

You're focusing on the wrong problem...

Butterflyfluff · 11/12/2020 23:44

Mine would find this hilarious, and he'd probably dine out on it for ever.

Mine would probably dine out in it!
