I am past caring now.
I feel for people who didn't want Brexit. Who know all the implications and can see the issues that are coming.

But if you want No Deal Brexit and it fucks you up, tough shit.

You wanted it. You get it. You own it.

And pardon me if I don't give a shit anymore about you.

Have they jas? Point-blank refused? I didn't know that the Minutes/Records of the Negotiations were publicly available yet.

Do you have a link please?

Marmite17 · 12/12/2020 22:22

We weren't told what type of Brexit we were getting? It meant leave with all the hardship we will have now. And surely people should have read up on this before voting.
Also would have trusted politicians not to do something so damaging to our country but clearly that's not the case.

KinseyWinsey · 12/12/2020 22:24

@workerbee80 why on earth would you want a passport that makes you part of the organization you wanted to leave?

Bizarre.

KinseyWinsey · 12/12/2020 22:31

@mamala321, do you have a source to confirm the EU development fund for Kraft and its operation in Poland?

Otherwise anyone can chat any old stuff, can't they?

KinseyWinsey · 12/12/2020 22:33

@Mssafina, to which fanatical Remainers are you referring?

Remainers have been ignored at best and vilified at worst since 2016.

A soft Brexit was never ever on the table after May set out her red lines.

Sarahlou63 · 12/12/2020 22:42

Hasn't anyone realised this has fuck all to do with fishing and everything to do with the 'level playing field'? JRM and his cronies are desperate to do away with every incarnation of workers rights enshrined in EU law in a race to the bottom which will lead to the UK having the shoddiest health service, Victorian working practices and appalling food quality in order to maximise profit.

Follow the money. Always, always, follow the money.

ilovesooty · 12/12/2020 22:43

@MaxNormal

I voted leave then got my Irish passport sorted for myself and family, so I'll be absolutely fine OP

Traitor.

I can think of worse names to level at people like her but I've no wish to be banned.
akerman · 12/12/2020 22:43

I have nothing but contempt, utter furious contempt, for leave voters who are now trying to blame Remainers.

You voted Leave.
Far too many of you brayed for years about how you knew what you were voting for.
It was the ERG who blocked May’s deal.
It was Leave voters who gave Johnson his GE victory last year.

Own your shit, take some fucking responsibility for what you have down, and grow the fuck up.

chomalungma · 12/12/2020 22:49

This. We are a divided country and we are only going to get more divided.

So Cadbury sells to Kraft (us company) days later closes Keynsham despite promising it wouldn't and moves to Poland? and thats the Eu's fault...... or US multinational cons UK and takes adv of cheaper labour in Poland.

Yet the Brexiters are desperate to do deals with the USA.

A crumb of comfort may be that the wrong man won the election and a) won't forget Johnson's insults, and b) strongly identifies with Irish Americans so won't willingly see Ireland shafted more than the UK has already done.

I think it's the other way around - PP obviously does want to be part of the organisation (hence the passport), but gets a kick out of depriving others of the same thing.

I've been banging this drum for years. It's staggering. The phrase 'turkeys voting for Christmas' sounds so glib, but I cannot think of a phrase that encapsulates it better.

19 days until those who chose to inflict Brexit on their own country begin to reap what they sowed.

It's just unfortunate that the rest of us have to reap it along with them.

Some of them genuinely don't seem to understand that Brexit is bad for Britain and I pity them.

But those who knew it was going to have a detrimental effect on the people of this country but wanted it anyway, well it's hard to have much sympathy for them.

I don't wish anybody ill, but who else should shoulder the consequences of Brexit than those who made it happen?

PetertheWalrus · 12/12/2020 23:40

From those I know who voted leave (I did not) I imagine the response would be "So what?"

These people wanted out of the EU at any cost and they were willing to pay a substantial economic price to achieve this. Farage is actually on record as saying this. This was "Remain's" great error, they tried to use economic arguments in a fight that had absolutely NOTHING to do with economics. As someone said, it was like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

I hadn't read this before, but yes.

It's the kind of mistake that the Democrats keep repeatedly making in the US (although I don't always think this, I'm just Trumped out right now).

TheSunIsStillShining · 13/12/2020 00:03

My son jokingly mentioned that even Games Workshop (niche gaming segment player manufacturing/selling plastic figurines and such related to a specific world) has more revenue than fisheries. As in to point out how insignificant an issue that it.
It turn out that this niche little company has a revenue of £297m per 2019.
Fisheries: only 4 times bigger with £97xm for 2019.
And for fun we looked at Call of Duty (video game) in-game microtransaction revenue: $980m per quarter.....

Yes, I know that a game and fish are not equal, but it's still interesting.

On the other hand: great that for huge costs the 4 warships parade on channel waters. But I honest to god hope that when it comes to seeing a french fishing ship in UK waters they won't fire.
But if they won't... then why are they there? Yeah, showcasing our strength, blabla... but let's be fair: spending this much money for show in the face of covid and brexit is one of the most idiotic thing I can think of.

TheSandman · 13/12/2020 01:11

And as someone asked on Facebook the other day: How come when they swim across the border they're OUR fish but when humans swim across the border they're not OUR people?

May ruled it out and Bojo does not want to be part of the SM in any shape or form. I thought this was commonly known.

It was always my hope that we would rejoin EFTA once remain lost the referendum.
It was the ideal compromise.

frumpety · 13/12/2020 07:46

I do wonder whether there is a bit of theatre involved in all this last minute stuff ? The dealine is the 31st of December. Pretend everyone has given up on a deal and then compromise for a deal at the last minute, do it in the holidays and will the UK public take much notice of the details ? or care ?
Tell someone on NYE that the EU wanted a 10 year extension on fishing in UK waters, we offered 3 initially and we have compromised at 6, I imagine they would be a bit Meh ! pass me the nibbles.

Non of the sticking points are insurmountable, all have enough wiggle room to allow a deal to be made, should both sides be willing. Does the UK Government want no deal, is that their prefered option ?

Bluntness100 · 13/12/2020 08:07

Yes I wonder if there is a bit of show boating involved. Previous eu negotiations with other countries have went to the wire, it’s all been eleventh hour stuff.

They clearly need to show politically they are doing their best for their countries, but also don’t want their countries to want to leave.

Logically you have to say that wouldn’t, for example, the french prefer a reduced quota of fishing rights than they are aiming for, than no rights at all?

We are a net importer of goods, we rely heavily on products from the eu. Which means the eu relies on selling to us, they don’t want to damage that with tariffs as it will cost their own businesses dearly.

No trade deal is worst case for everyone, so why would you prefer that over a compromise.

It’s like asking for a fiver for something you’re selling, need to sell and have no other buyer for, being offered two pounds for it, and fhen shouting well fuck you I will take nothing and not have the sale. It’s cutting your nose off to spite your face.

So I’m wondering if they will take this to the very last min then they all go ok let’s just sign it then,

It’s not this, we have already agreed no regression, we won’t go back and change our laws like that.
