I'm a fully grown adult and I can't stomach egg Yolks, I can only eat the white part, I'm not scared of them and can be around them but he thought of eating one makes me feel sick.
Sat eating my dinner (ready meal because I'm having a lazy day) got half way through it and started to gag and then I threw up a little bit, I was sweating and breathing harder!
Just looked at what's in it and it's spaghetti Carbonara , made with egg yolks!
It can't be mind over matter as I didn't know eggs were in it Confused
I also I can cook eggs for people, I just can't eat them.
Anyone else have weird phobia type things or is it just me!

@Nottherealslimshady

I have autophobia, the fear of being alone, genuine crippling fear, we have to plan DH going for nights out based on me having a scare and not being able to move. Also afraid of the dark. If past lives exist then my last one ended when someone broke into my house while I was alone at night and murdered me, I'm sure of it.

Overripe fruits and soggy cereal make me feel sick too!

I always thought that out phobias could be a result of how we died in a previous life. Mine is quite a common phobia but I cannot write the word as that alone makes me feel scared.
DiesalFive · 11/12/2020 19:16

A lot of these are not phobias, just dislikes.

My phobia is very unusual and I can't even type it, it makes me feel terrified and anxious just thinking of the word.

sandalsinthebin · 11/12/2020 19:16

A slug crawled into my dog's bowl from outside - it lurked there and made me throw up. People brushing their teeth on TV makes me shudder.

Spanglebangle · 11/12/2020 20:20

Ladybirds just NO!

MarylinMonrue · 11/12/2020 21:01

Shipwrecks and other large items submerged in deep water. I once panic-vomited during a documentary about the Titanic when they cut to the wreck.

GCAcademic · 11/12/2020 21:05

Theft detection scanners. I get panicky having to walk through the ones in the library at work (and that’s not because I’ve stolen a book).

Also moths.

Afishcalledwonderful · 11/12/2020 21:17

Mine is weird. It's peas. I can cook them for my son and put them on his plate and think nothing of it. But if they get put on my plate or I see a random pea on my plate, it makes me feel very anxious and stressed, especially if I bite into something and there's a pea in it. When I was 3, I got the shell of a pea stuck in my throat and I think it's got something to do with that. It's a really odd feeling. They really put me on edge!

CarinaMarina · 11/12/2020 21:19

Vomit and vomiting - others and myself. Emetophobia is the 6th most common phobia, I read somewhere.

And it's not just that I find it disgusting or revolting or can't stand the smell or run away from it - people on MN are a bit quick to say they're "emetophobic" just because vomit is gross. Being phobic means that it affected my eating habits, my school years, my social skills, my relationships, and certain jobs. I remember having a noisy and unexpected breakdown at work in 2000 when a colleague was hilariously describing how her daughter vomited so copiously and repeatedly that it was running under the door or something, I had to be escorted out. Embarrassing.

I started some medication after that which I've stayed on for 20 years, I'm better these days but still have quite a few rituals and avoidance behaviours.

MrsWarleggan · 11/12/2020 21:22

Bananas. Don't know why!!

ndo4000 · 11/12/2020 21:34

@Alittlelessthanuseless I'm the same. It all started with the weird scales on the back of the dog/dragon in The Neverending Story film. 🤢 We call it 'bitty-itis ' in our house....

Spanglebangle · 11/12/2020 21:36

People dressed in character costumes with heads on. Like goofybat Disney land, I break out in a cold sweat and give them a very wide berth.

Spanglebangle · 11/12/2020 21:36

Goofy at* Goofybat sounds so much worse!

MabelMoo23 · 11/12/2020 21:41

Frogs.
I won’t even walk on the grass in our garden at night in case they are in the grass.

I can’t even step over one or walk past one

Another is hair in sinks. Makes me want to vomit. I can’t use public sinks if there are strands of hair on them.

AllTheCakes · 11/12/2020 21:46

Not a phobia as such, but if I see anyone with sharp knives I imagine them licking it and cutting their tongue and feel physical pain in my body as my brain goes over and over it Sad. I also feel pain down my back if people describe injuries in detial.

MrsGrindah · 11/12/2020 21:46

@Cocolapew I am exactly the same as you! The holes thing is a recent development but it makes me feel a bit queasy

Catscrat · 11/12/2020 21:50

I also get freaked out by objects in deep water. I wouldn’t call it a phobia but makes me shudder. I remember as a child having nightmares about things underwater in the swimming pool.

MrsGrindah · 11/12/2020 21:54

I love whales. But I had a bout of intense stress and developed a stress dream that always featured killer whales looming up from deep water. I now can’t even look at a picture if one even though I know they are magnificent

MissMoiselle · 11/12/2020 21:58

Lepidopterophobia. Fear of butterflies and moths. I've had it since I was in kindergarten and we went on a day trip.to a butterfly garden. I remember entering and feeling very overwhelmed. The teacher dragged me through it and I was in tears and absolutely terrified. Has been a phobia ever since. If there's a moth in the house, I will literally have a panic attack and cry. My family and friends don't get it. But I hate them. The thought of them makes me shiver.

sassafras123 · 11/12/2020 22:34

Stairs or steps without handrails.

Treaclepie19 · 11/12/2020 22:37

@Mrsjayy I have the mushroom one!

I can't stand clusters of things. Seeds in peppers. Eggs. Frogspawn. Beans. Yuk.

ISmellLikeRobin · 11/12/2020 22:41

Disembodied voices. The only radio station I listen to is mostly music & I only listen to it in the car. I can't cope with podcasts or audio books at all. They just make me really uncomfortable but I can't figure out exactly why!

I feel similarly about anyone on a screen who's looking directly into the camera, whether it's a Zoom thing or pre-recorded talk.

Treaclepie19 · 11/12/2020 22:43

Looks like I'm not alone with the trypophobia reading back. Makes my skin crawl thinking of insects carrying eggs. Bleugh.

Carouselfish · 11/12/2020 22:47

DP cant handle being near mayonnaise. Can't understand why. Really irritates me.

BobsYerUnclee · 11/12/2020 22:54

@Heartbeat3

Wooden lolly ice sticks
This is me! ANYTHING WOODEN! And especially if it is wet. Wooden cutlery Envy
BobsYerUnclee · 11/12/2020 22:56

And cardboard or certain types of paper. Raw wood. Argh, I'm on edge thinking of these! The feeling of that horrible cardboard, when you go to peel something out it's packet....
