I'm a fully grown adult and I can't stomach egg Yolks, I can only eat the white part, I'm not scared of them and can be around them but he thought of eating one makes me feel sick.
Sat eating my dinner (ready meal because I'm having a lazy day) got half way through it and started to gag and then I threw up a little bit, I was sweating and breathing harder!
Just looked at what's in it and it's spaghetti Carbonara , made with egg yolks!
It can't be mind over matter as I didn't know eggs were in it Confused
I also I can cook eggs for people, I just can't eat them.
Anyone else have weird phobia type things or is it just me!

I have so many of these I know I don't like but it's impossible to sympathise or understand someone else's phobia. A phobia strikes some horrendous irrational fear inside you that doesn't really make sense. I think a lot of people say they have a phobia when they don't same as a lot of people claim they have OCD but they have no clue how crap true OCD would be x

I'm terrified of slugs! I can deal with all kinds of weird freaky things but they are terrifying

Lorddenning1 · 21/01/2021 18:03

My son had an omelette today and said I really like this part, a big bit of yolk and I had to leave the room, couldn't even sit near him while he ate it, it's crazy because it smelt pretty good Confused

the bit of boats under the water (is it the hull) really freaks me out - cant cope with boats out of the water where i can see it

Cant really explain it - i think it is to do with being under it and drowning so makes no sense when it is out of the water

Fatladyslim · 21/01/2021 20:56

I'm scared of sweetcorn mixed in with other food.

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 21/01/2021 20:59

Not sure if it’s a phobia as such but the sound of helicopters makes me feel really anxious and panicky. No issues with helicopters themselves, it’s just the sound!

MabelMoo23 · 21/01/2021 21:04

Interesting about intrusive thoughts. I had them really badly when my first child was born, they utterly terrified me, I was convinced I was going to harm her. I now know it really normal

But I would have her in the bath and imagine that I’d pick up bleach rather than shampoo, or I’d be walking near the stairs and I’d trip and she’d fly over the bannister or this one really frightens me, my had some of this pipe stuff that expands as you spray it. The thought of it being swallowed really really frightens me.

I feel a bit sick thinking of them

Polystyrene. I cannot bear to hear the squeaking.
Buttons... I can cope with them but when they get caught between my nails and my finger... eeeugh!!!
Squeaky acrylic.
Spiders.
Dangly earrings.

Lifts are a big one for me.. I have actual nightmares about being inside a lift, I feel like I’m being strangled just typing that. I’ve always been this way, I remember freaking out on a visit to my aunties office which involved going in a lift Envy
Aunty was not so patient with me.. DMum had to talk me through my.

And possibly related, I do have some claustrophobic tendencies though technically it might not be claustrophobia.. I can’t stomach being in situations or places where I can’t control when I leave. So things like being on planes (I’m a lot better now, but I’m still very uneasy).. I had an MRI a few years back which was very difficult, and they were so patient with me.. I shut my eyes pretty much as soon as I got into the room Grin
Then found myself thinking ridiculous thoughts along the lines of “this is the part in the horror movie where the guys running the MRI are killed/incapacitated....” which really didn’t help.

binkyblinky · 21/01/2021 21:27

The holes in crumpets make me feel sick

Frozenintime · 21/01/2021 21:28

Motorways

Humpty11 · 21/01/2021 21:36

It’s not a phobia but I can’t stand wooden lolly sticks or the wooden stirrers for hot drinks. The thought of licking one makes me cringe and even wooden spoons make my skin crawl if someone licks them 🤢

JaniceEvans · 21/01/2021 21:42

Silly putty... It's the specific smell of silly putty and the slightly slimey texture. When I was a child I had an fear of "gunge" too and it seemed to be on every kids TV show. Literally had nightmares about it.

ultrablue · 21/01/2021 22:01

I have an irrational phobia of being trapped, I think it's called Cleithrophobia, I can't watch or read anything to do with, potholing, pipes etc, without shaking and crying uncontrollably. I'll wake in the night having a panic attack as I'll suddenly see myself trapped against something unable to move or escape (not dream related as I can usually remember what I was dreaming right before hand) so it's more like a flashback and that unnerves me for days afterwards, scared to sleep etc. It's now gotten to the point that I can't reach under the kids beds or a bottom shelf at work incase I get stuck and if I get hemmed in by customers at work I feel really Ill.

Also I have an irrational fear of tunnels, not getting stuck in them, but having to walk or drive through them or even worse use the tube... Even circular railway bridges/arches where I can see the other end I'll try to avoid.

SlipperTripper · 21/01/2021 22:31

Mannequins. Creepy fuckers

CroutonsAvatar · 21/01/2021 22:38

Bananas and public toilets, not ones that are in bars, restaurants, theatres etc but council owned ones, like in parks. The thought of having to go in one freaks me out and in any dream I have that turns distressing it’s because I’ve ended up in a public toilet! No idea why. I don’t think I’ve even been in a really gross one before.

MadameTuffington · 21/01/2021 22:40

I have none but a colleague told me today she has a serious phobia around gas masks - it all started when she studied World War I & II at primary school - even seeing a picture of one can induce a panic attack.

CroutonsAvatar · 21/01/2021 22:42

And clothing getting caught in drawers! Especially
velvety things or chenille(?) jumper type material. I can’t explain it.

Dumpyandabdabs · 21/01/2021 22:47

People find mine hilarious. Its buttons! I'm not frightened of them but I have a major aversion to them. It has an official phobia name though so I mustn't be alone. Its more loose ones that really bother me although I do try to avoid any clothing that has buttons.

BabbleBee · 21/01/2021 22:48

Fish... which is really annoying when I’d quite like to go in the sea on holiday.

Also can’t stand explosion type noises in films, or gunfire. Not scared of it as such, but the noise hurts my brain.

Firsttimemummy33 · 21/01/2021 22:50

Slugs

Derekhello · 21/01/2021 22:56

Submarines. That noise they make, if they’re submerged or semi out of the water...terrifying

1Q84isHappening · 21/01/2021 22:57

@thatsforsure yes! I have ALWAYS thought that. It extends to other items too like fishing nets, anchors.... the thought of where they’ve been shudder

1Q84isHappening · 21/01/2021 22:58

Oh - and the very thought of those duck car things (that move in land and water) gives me the fear!

HarrietOh · 21/01/2021 23:00

Koumpounophobia (Buttons)

People always seem amazed by it but I’ve discovered it’s not too uncommon, and saw a few people on this thread have it too!

For me it’s buttons with the 4 holes in the middle. They make me feel sick, if I accidentally touch one it’s as if my hand is so unclean. I can’t bear them!!
