The Last Mrs Parrish is my favourite from this year Smile

Meowchickameowmeow · 10/12/2020 10:40

I really liked The Perfect Couple by Jackie Kabler.

VinceTheMafiaBoss · 10/12/2020 11:14

The Hunting Party and the Guest List by Lucy Foley and The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware

Hellohah · 10/12/2020 11:16

I really like The Silent Patient.

Spied · 10/12/2020 11:16

Another vote for The Hunting Party.

UnChristmassy · 10/12/2020 11:23

I read one called Precious You by Helen Monks Takhar.

It was very good.

ZoeTurtle · 10/12/2020 11:27

I thought The Hunting Party was awful and couldn't even finish it.

I haven't been impressed with thrillers overall this year. The best of the bunch was Now You See Her, but even that had problems.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 10/12/2020 11:28

I couldn’t get through the Hunting Party at all, awful, don’t understand the love for it.

Annasgirl · 10/12/2020 11:28

The Mothers (I've read all the others above and would also recommend The Hunting Party and The Guest List but The Mothers is the best of all these)

Another one that is in the same vein as The Guest list is Sleep - and again it was a "Cluedo Whodunnit" - lots of interesting twists.

I have more if anyone has read all these and is settling in for the long haul - I managed to read voraciously through the first lockdown as my teens, youngest DC and DH hogged the TV's!!!

theresagiantonthebeach · 10/12/2020 11:30

believe me by j p delany. ..it was just brilliant

MynahBird · 10/12/2020 11:31

The Wife and the Widow by Christian White. I have never known a twist quite like that one.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/12/2020 11:32

The Closer You Get

MynahBird · 10/12/2020 11:32

The absolute best was Troubled Blood, Robert Galbraith. Absolutely incredible.

theresagiantonthebeach · 10/12/2020 11:34

lost man by Jane harper was also brilliant

JuneFromBethesda · 10/12/2020 11:35

@MynahBird

The Wife and the Widow by Christian White. I have never known a twist quite like that one.
Very intriguing @MynahBird, I think I’ll have to read it now to find out what the twist is!
Strangedayindeed · 10/12/2020 11:38

Thanks for this thread I need a good new book

Icantrememebrtheartist · 10/12/2020 11:42

Oh I’m excited now! 😊 thank you everyone for your recommendations and the ones you wouldn’t.

Thanks Mynah - I adored Troubled Blood too - but I would only give it to someone with all of the other books in the series as you really need to read them all to get it.

I adore series and if you need recommendations my favourite are

Detective Maeve Kerrigan by Jane Casey
Dr. Ruth Galloway by Elly Griffiths
Firefly and White Hot Silence by Henry Porter
The Ragdoll Series by Daniel Cole

A stand-alone that I also loved last year was The Banker's Wife

bearlyactive · 10/12/2020 11:46

Another vote for The Closer You Get

IntermittentParps · 10/12/2020 12:25

Marking place. I don't tend to read 'genre' thrillers but would like to find some books that are gripping, twisty but well written. I love Sarah Waters for that, but I've read all hers.
I've just read John Banville's Snow; not quite a psychological thriller but a really great read.

I didn't get the fuss about The Hunting Party either. It was almost good but missed the mark IMO.

AmyandPhilipfan · 10/12/2020 12:44

I also enjoyed The Silent Patient

Ginfordinner · 10/12/2020 12:49

Follow You Home. Just brilliant

WitchesSpelleas · 10/12/2020 12:49

It was almost good but missed the mark IMO.

Yes - that was exactly what I thought. I didn't feel quite engaged enough with the characters to really get into it. Worth a read but not a favourite.

I enjoyed The Other Passenger by Louise Candlish - probably my favourite this year.

Hobbesmanc · 10/12/2020 12:54

The Snakes by Sadie Jones- literally made me gasp out loud !

Moooooooooooooooooo · 10/12/2020 13:04

Following. In need of some good reads.
