Looking for a book for my sister for Christmas.

Thank you 😊

Also wanted to mention Dying for Christmas by Tamar Cohen. It's not a new release but I couldn't put it down.

WitchesSpelleas · 11/12/2020 16:44

Ooh, I found Dying for Christmas in a charity shop this summer and put it aside to read at Christmas - I'd been hoping it would be worth the wait. I've never read a dud by Tammy Cohen so glad to hear this one is unputdownable.

spoonrace · 11/12/2020 16:49

Not a new book, but for those who like Sarah Waters, Gillespie and I by Jane Harris is a very good one. For general thrillers I love all the Tana French ones though must admit I'm struggling a bit with the most recent one, which I'm halfway through.

Thanks for the thread OP, sorted my Xmas reading!

Brexit

Wow! Thank you so much everyone. So many good recommendations! And thank you to everyone for mentioning the books you haven’t enjoyed, that’s really helpful too.

Now which ones to choose? 😊

Behind Closed Doors

B.A Paris

doloresclaiborne · 11/12/2020 17:20

And this one is excellent as well. It makes a change from domestic psychological thrillers

ChristmasFluff · 11/12/2020 17:57

It's an old one, but 'The Rose Petal Beach' by Dorothy Koomson.

I had very low expectations, but wow. It's not my cup of tea as a genre, but I couldn't deny this was a page-turner.

ChristmasFluff · 11/12/2020 18:07

I generally really like Sophie Hannah, but 'Haven't They Grown' was just awful

hammeringinmyhead · 11/12/2020 19:25

I can't be bothered to read Haven't They Grown but want to know the ending. I can't find spoilers anywhere!

Same here. The book has got quite mixed reviews so don't want to read but love a spoiler!

Another vote for The Closer You Get. I remember Mary being on MN when she released one of her earlier books, My Time, Your Time and exchanging a few messages. I loved that book and have always kept an eye out for her releases as her style of writing is great!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 11/12/2020 20:07

The woman in the window by A J Flynn
Kiss me first by Lottie Moggach
The Other People by C J Taylor
Trust in Me by Sophie McKenna
Rubberneckers by Belinda Bauer
Just Like all the other Girls by Claire Douglas...
and pretty much anything by Helen Fitzgerald

WitchesSpelleas · 11/12/2020 20:14

@hammeringinmyhead @Womanwiththegoldenbun - Have PMd you re. Haven't they Grown spoiler but if you read my PM you'll be underwhelmed. Sad

hammeringinmyhead · 11/12/2020 20:17

Another vote here for The Closer You Get.

Womanwiththegoldenbun · 11/12/2020 20:29

Thanks Witches!

pandafeatures · 11/12/2020 20:34

The Darkest Secret by Alex Marwood and The Confession by Jo Spain.

Can't pick between the two, sorry!

PinkYellowTinsel · 12/12/2020 09:04

I second Behind Closed Doors! It really stayed with me for a while after reading it.

I've heard great things about 'Home Before Dark' by Riley Sager. I loved some of his other books e.g. The Last Time I Lied was good.

shinynewapple2020 · 12/12/2020 09:19

@Ironfloor269

Please may I jump on this thread and ask, are any of these books (I know Follow You Home is) available on Kindle Unlimited? Thanks.

My experience has been that books by really popular authors haven't been available on kindle unlimited - at least when they are new . I have read other series which were 'free' that I wouldn't have otherwise discovered and enjoyed some of them . I haven't looked for any of the books specified here yet, the ones I read, I read as paperbacks before March, I started using the kindle with lockdown and after spending ££ I discovered the kindle unlimited subscription.

freddiemercury · 12/12/2020 09:38

The Chalet by Catherine cooper

hammeringinmyhead · 12/12/2020 16:18

Quite a few mentioned are not Kindle Ultd but are only 99p. For example, Three Hours - Rosamund Lupton.

Another - The Playdate by Alex Dahl.

VienneseWhirligig · 12/12/2020 16:25

Definitely agree with the Dorothy Koomson recommendation. All her books to be honest, they are all really readable.

Troubled Blood is the best book I've read all year.

Lachimolala · 12/12/2020 21:16

Insidious by Aleatha Romig. Genuinely unnerved me so much 😳
