to wonder what happens to the new craze of door bows when it’s pissing down?

Obviously I’ve got lots of time spare during my furloughed days!

Seriously though, what happens to these bows in inclement weather?

@Cooljoggings

I have never seen a dressed door in my life! I did quite enjoy this window dressing though... Grin
😂😂😂
EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 10/12/2020 07:14

I can’t believe how many of you haven’t seen them.

They’re all over our local fb pages.

I've never seen one in real life.

userxx · 10/12/2020 07:27

What the fuck!! I didn't even know such a thing existed, are they a Christmas thing ? Hideous.

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 10/12/2020 07:28

I'd agree with the Essex poster and say there seem to be slightly less in Liverpool than the last few years. I think they dry out pretty quickly. My NDN has one. I am really enjoying people's Christmas decorations on my walk to work this year - a bit if light after a long struggle. (If you'd asked me a few years back I'd have said they were tacky. Funny what the pandemic has done!!)

Matilda03 · 10/12/2020 07:32

If you haven't seen one come to Essex! Lots of shops have them year round. Residential houses seem to just bring them out at Christmas time although I think I remember seeing a few around Easter as well.

IndieTara · 10/12/2020 07:34

This year for the first time I have a door bow! Normally it's a wreath. But for the first time I also have outdoor lights too. Gone a bit ott this year.
But I like my bow.

IndieTara · 10/12/2020 08:17

@Sloeginclub they are reusable just put them back in the box they came in and reuse next Christmas

Livpool · 10/12/2020 08:21

I hate them - don't know why as they don't affect me at all

Roselilly36 · 10/12/2020 08:23

Wow, learned something new today, I have never seen one, hugely impractical I can see why the postman isn’t too keen. I assume they originated across the pond where they have don’t have mail put through their door.

IndieTara · 10/12/2020 08:50

Mine is on my front door which is inside my porch. Doesn't affect my post at all

These have been around for a few years. Like another poster, normally i would consider these the height of naffness but after this year, if it makes someone happy then who am I to judge?

Sloeginclub · 10/12/2020 08:59

India Tara they may go back in the box for a few years but eventually they will get tatty, people get bored of them so they get thrown away - just like all the big plastic inflatables, Christmas lights, 'Santa Stop Here' signs etc etc. (electrical lights can be recycled but most don't get recycled they get binned). I'm not saying we shouldn't 't have any decorations but I just wonder how many people are worried about climate change on the one hand but don't make the connection when they are buying loads of unnecessary tat that using resources and energy to make, transport etc and then will eventually end up in a landfill site or incinerator. When we 'throw things away' there is no such place as away!

RaspberryCoulis · 10/12/2020 09:05

@Mamanyt

Better a door bow (or whole house bow) than nothing at all. And it is no worse than some outdoor light displays I've seen here in the US that would power a third world country. Even those make children's faces light up, so I shut up and deal with them.
Better than nothing at all? Since when has it been compulsory to decorate the outside of your house?
Bin85 · 10/12/2020 09:12

Or garage bows --have you seen those?!

OulDoll · 10/12/2020 09:12

Oh dear, if it's 'better than nothing at all', then shame on me and my poor naked front door.

DS(8) says we're 'the weird family' because we have no outdoor lights or other assorted light up stuff - even though there are only a few houses in our area with lights outside - 1 house in every 20 or so. They're all he sees I suppose, because he's 8 ... and I'm the Grinch for pointing out the truthGrin

Madbengalmum · 10/12/2020 09:25

I think they look incredibly tacky, i was having a giggle the other day at some pics online. Each to his own however.

Janegrey333 · 10/12/2020 09:28

I have never seen one nor do I ever wish to. We live in a desirable village so it wouldn’t be allowed, I imagine. Not quite National Trust.

Janegrey333 · 10/12/2020 09:31

Since when has it been compulsory to decorate the outside of your house?

Exactly. In tat, furthermore. The only decoration that is acceptable ON a house - can’t believe I’m writing that - is a climbing plant like a Virginia Creeper.

RaspberryCoulis · 10/12/2020 09:36

We have a wreath. We tried to fix it on the door and it kept falling off. So it's now hanging on the inside of a window.

It will be a cold day in hell before I put a net bow on my front door.

sqirrelfriends · 10/12/2020 09:36

I had to google them as I've never seen one before.

Super ugly and tacky, hopefully it won't take off here.

Thismustbelove · 10/12/2020 09:41

The only decoration that is acceptable ON a house

Acceptable to YOU.

I don’t have outdoor decorations but I love the white lights people have under their roof (gutters?). I think they look beautiful.

I also LOVE lights on outdoor real growing trees.

Festivespooks · 10/12/2020 09:51

Wow, so much hate for bows. I don't have one but I don't hate them. They're obviously seen as a lower class Christmas effort eh Hmm

Madbengalmum · 10/12/2020 09:55

OMG these monstrosities are available locally, no words.

It’s like football colours. Maybe some people think they’re heading for a Cup Final.
