to wonder what happens to the new craze of door bows when it’s pissing down?

Obviously I’ve got lots of time spare during my furloughed days!

Seriously though, what happens to these bows in inclement weather?

Shhh don’t tell y next door neighbour.

I don’t like them but each to their own I guess.

BrummyMum1 · 09/12/2020 22:27

So glad they’re not a thing in my area, never heard of them.

frazzledasarock · 09/12/2020 22:28

My two youngest love them. To keep them occupied we walk round our neighbourhood oohing and aaahing at the neighbours decorations (they probably think I’m mad). So far our favourite is a house with a bow on the door two little Narnia style lampposts, reindeer and floral adornments with lights on the outside of every window and the fence.

It brightens up a dull winter. I love Christmas lights, decorations and all. And I’m so glad people decorate their homes.

80sColourfulChristmas · 09/12/2020 22:29

It seems to be only the multi million pound houses round here with door bows.....Confused

HitthatroadJack · 09/12/2020 22:31

I have seen plenty of photos online, but never once in real life. They are usually described as "classy" which makes them even more ... special/
When you thought the "chair bows" at wedding were bad enough, someone has to top them up. Grin

The house bow deserves a special mention, there's effort put in there!

TheWichitaWineOne · 09/12/2020 22:32

All the lights and inflatables and projectors just make it look like Christmas to me

Y'see, this is where churches get it all wrong at Christmas.

Ew, never heard of this, none in my neck of the woods............yet!

ScalpHelp · 09/12/2020 22:33

My friend has one of these, I think it’s quite nice. It’s only a horizontal bow though, the vertical ribbon isn’t present. She has a wreath in the centre too.

Not all of them, I've seen lots with lights and huge nativity scenes set up outside 😉
plumpootle · 09/12/2020 22:40

I have never in my life seen or heard of such a thing. Why would you do that?

CoronaIsWatching · 09/12/2020 22:41

Don't like them. The only acceptable outdoor decorations are one set of warm white lights in a tree or shrub outside (turned off after 11pm) and perhaps one (tasteful) wreath.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/12/2020 22:42

I bet no one middle class has one ...

liveitwell · 09/12/2020 22:44

As if Christmas isn't about tack!

Live and let live. To start a thread to bitch about door bows screams unhappiness to me.

ChasingRainbows19 · 09/12/2020 22:47

Bows have been around for ages in my area/s. ( north west)

dramallama7 · 09/12/2020 22:56

@DuzzyFuck

I had to Google. Christ on a bike the majority look awful. And yes I can see why the postman might be a bit Hmm if they encounter a lot of them.
They are god damn hideous. 🤢 My neighbour opposite has one, it hurts my eyes every time I see it. Very tacky!
silentrunner · 09/12/2020 22:57

if people want to cheer themselves up with a bit of colourful decoration let them, stay in your greige world fun sponges

TwoHoots74 · 09/12/2020 22:59

Why would you want to wrap your front door up? Genuinely confused.

overnightangel · 09/12/2020 23:00

Had to google these, didn’t realise it was thing.
Fucking horrendous 😂
No accounting for taste

SomethingWycked · 09/12/2020 23:01

I love in a small town in Lincolnshire, never seen one until a house on the development across the road put one on their door. DP, DS & I spent a good 7 minutes trying to work out what it was, sent DS across for a closer look. Its looks ok but I did remark at the time it will get wet etc & probably go in the bin after Christmas.

Daphnise · 09/12/2020 23:03

Door bows are rather common, don't you think?

The type of person having such things is generally not the most sophisticated or intelligent!

But if it makes such people happy, and they think it looks good.......

YellowPostItPad · 09/12/2020 23:04

I like them. People on here are being snobby.

SlopesOff · 09/12/2020 23:08

So the postie has to pull the gusset to one side, like a pair of tart's drawers in order to insert and offload.

I don't think I will be getting a door bow, my postie is rather, errr, coarse, I can imagine his reaction.

evenBetter · 09/12/2020 23:12

I like them
Cool story, arrange alternative delivery location for your post then, because they make letterboxes inaccessible.

lyralalala · 09/12/2020 23:15

There's a house in the village I live in that has a year-round pink tinge on their door because the colour ran in torrential rain and stuck to the door. By the time it was peeled off the white door was a bit pink.

AlwaysLatte · 09/12/2020 23:16

More plastic, more tat. They're awful!
