Obviously I’ve got lots of time spare during my furloughed days!

Seriously though, what happens to these bows in inclement weather?

I have never seen a dressed door in my life! I did quite enjoy this window dressing though... Grin

What happens to the 'door bow' afterwards? Just one more totally pointless and wasteful plastic consumer item somebody has thought up that will be thrown away at some point (the fabric will be some sort of plastic polymer). Does anybody ever consider this when they buy all this Christmas and Halloween tat?

CounsellorTroi · 10/12/2020 00:42

There seems to be a craze for doorway garlands as well - I mean the whole doorway witha garland round it

ElephantWhaleRabbit · 10/12/2020 00:43

Got to say that all the ones I've seen look absolutely rubbish. It's the kind of thing that only looks good if you've got a really nice front door and are willing to spend a fortune on it. Wreaths look miles better.

Hollyhobbi · 10/12/2020 00:55

Just did a quick Google search there and apparently there is a company in Cork that sells handmade door bows. For €30. And they will put it on your door for an extra charge. And they do them for weddings, Communions, birthdays etc. I'm flabbergasted.

StormyInTheNorth · 10/12/2020 01:16

They're branching out round here. For the sum of £25 you can have a bow on the headstone of a loved one. You read right. A headstone.

Thismustbelove · 10/12/2020 01:24

Bows on headstones and funeral wreaths on doors!!!!!! What a topsy turvy world we live in.

MrsGulDukat · 10/12/2020 01:48

Seen lots in Essex in the past few years and they appearing more and more.

They look shit. It's better to just have nothing on the door.

Leeds2 · 10/12/2020 02:52

I have no idea what you are talking about!

thosetalesofunexpected · 10/12/2020 02:55

Front door bows just are cheap tat items Masquarding as posh Tat

Crap Tat is just as bad for the environment too

lovelemoncurd · 10/12/2020 03:32

Our front door is under an open porch so nothing gets wet.

happymummy12345 · 10/12/2020 03:45

I hate them. Been around for years where I am.

Monty27 · 10/12/2020 03:46

Aw OP let peeps feel special if only for Christmas.
can we have a Christmas tat thread

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 10/12/2020 04:01

Well its not my kind of thing, but after the miserable year people have had let people enjoy things!

Just wait 'till the valentines and Easter themed door dressings 😉
AragonsGirl · 10/12/2020 04:23

They’re not new where I am, nor are they for Christmas only! Birthdays, new babies, Halloween, engagements, first day of school...any old event is worthy of one of these apparently. Has to be accomplished by a personalised balloon(s) as well

AragonsGirl · 10/12/2020 04:24

Accompanied not accomplished 🙄

NurseButtercup · 10/12/2020 05:58

Some miserable people on this thread jeeez. I used to work with a lady who used to dress the entire exterior of her house like a gift wrapped present. She used to repaint her house white every year & had a massive big red bow, some lights and other stuff. It looked amazing like an expensive gift.

NurseButtercup · 10/12/2020 06:00

^^I forgot to say all of the decorations she used were waterproof, designed for use in all weathers.

Matilda03 · 10/12/2020 06:04

Haha I am also in Essex and if anything there are a lot less of them than there usually are. I think we hit peak now here about 6 years ago!

Matilda03 · 10/12/2020 06:06

Bow not now!

Thehop · 10/12/2020 06:08

Haha I have one and LOVE it. I normally hate tacky but this makes me smile so much. I don’t even have decorations up indoors, just a tree so god knows why I love these but I’ve had one for three years and I’ll get it back out again next year!

It’s stretchy so post is easy, I checked.

Hydrate · 10/12/2020 07:04

I haven't seen many of those, the ones I've seen are on garage doors and wouldn't affect the postie. But what I do cringe at are the Inflatables two of them staring at me every night from across the road. One of them is the Grinch so not too bad, but the other one is a minion. A gigantic minion.Sad
