to wonder what happens to the new craze of door bows when it’s pissing down?

Obviously I’ve got lots of time spare during my furloughed days!

Seriously though, what happens to these bows in inclement weather?

Saw my 1st one of these yesterday. Luckily for the postie it was tastefully placed over to 1 side

Simplyunacceptable · 09/12/2020 21:33

So tacky. Haven’t seen any here but have seen an inflatable Homer Simpson wearing a Santa hat and a fair few inflatable nutcrackers.

Meepmeeep · 09/12/2020 21:34

@SantasYumnuts

I have never seen a door bow before! Is it just a Christmas thing?
No, saw plenty at Halloween this year too for the first time in orange and purple colours.
lockdownalli · 09/12/2020 21:36

Awful. I haven't seen anything remotely like that round my way fortunately (South Coast)

BritWifeinUSA · 09/12/2020 21:39

They work better here (if you like that sort of thing - I don’t) because we don’t have letterboxes in the doors. The mail is put in a box on the street.

We have inflatable penguins. I love them because they are very cute.

MoonBaby1 · 09/12/2020 21:40

I know this is my issues but I find them unbearably smug. Putting a bow on my house would be the epitome of polishing a turd!

user1936863452 · 09/12/2020 21:40

I don't see how they're any worse or weirder than wreaths. In a month where a majority of people are busy dragging trees inside their houses, I really don't think some people putting ribbons on their front doors is the weird behaviour.

TheDogisBarkingAgain · 09/12/2020 21:42

Look at Stacey Solomon 'door reveal' on Instagram cos that'll be the craze next year. You'll all be longing for the days of a simple door bow 😆

PicsInRed · 09/12/2020 21:42

What in the fucky bollocks is going on with this country. 😂

HarrietOh · 09/12/2020 21:42

Oh wow not seen anything like that up north. Look a bit tacky!

ArmchairCritics · 09/12/2020 21:43

This is the question I ask myself every day @PicsInRed...

nodogz · 09/12/2020 21:46

I do the internal downstairs doors with bows. Soooo tacky but it's Christmas and I love it!

But even I draw the line at front door bows and I've got pink flashing in my outdoor trees!

warmandtoasty2day · 09/12/2020 21:48

Why is anyone surprised about this ? Most people probably have something tacky at christmas, it's not hurting anyone else, may be annoying for postie but apart from that. I don't have any
man made decorations as we don't celebrate christmas, but i don't take the pee and sneer at others choices of decor.

TheDogisBarkingAgain · 09/12/2020 21:51

Tacky Christmas decorations are what I love, I absolutely love them. I do think the understated, colour coordinated ones look beautiful but my favourite thing is driving around and seeing all the houses that look like Blackpool illuminations ate Christmas and then threw up on a house. All the lights and inflatables and projectors just make it look like Christmas to me.

I do feel sorry for the posties though and think people should consider them when doing outside decorations. I saw earlier this week a postie had been hurt on a wreath, it should've been hung well away from the letterbox.

Esspee · 09/12/2020 22:09

OMG that’s ghastly (just seen the photo on page 1). So vulgar.

mrwalkensir · 09/12/2020 22:10

Big on the estate behind us as they also worked for Remembrance Sunday. Mainly made out of red netting? Think they look rather fab for that reason and for impact on a budget.

LookMoreCloselier · 09/12/2020 22:16

They are fugly.

category12 · 09/12/2020 22:17

Is it like "here burglar, this house is a pressie for you?"

I think people should do what they like if it pleases them. Bit of glitter and tat is fun.

DougRossIsTheBoss · 09/12/2020 22:20

Oooh I saw one of these on my way to work this morning. A white flimsy one. I did a bit of a double take. Wondered if it was a left over Halloween cobweb. I did not realise it was a 'thing'.

Joeblack066 · 09/12/2020 22:21

Aaaand here we go again.
People of mumsnet, it IS possible to say you don’t like something without using a range of disparaging adjectives that are frankly insulting. Watch:
Door bows? I’ve seen them online. Not my thing but my friend’s 4 year old loves hers! It’s made of netting so dries in a flash.
See? No words like ‘hideous’ or ‘chavvy’ at all.

ShirleyPhallus · 09/12/2020 22:21

A boyfriend bought me one of these once. Except it was for me to wear, not the door. And I’d be naked.

I don’t think he had any idea just how unattractive a fanny would actually look being presented with a line of ribbon squarely up the chuff but there we go.

Please do note he’s an ex boyfriend Wink

Just think of this when you see one Grin

AliceMadHatter · 09/12/2020 22:25

I do not not have one but they are better than some of the shit outside lights/decorations that some people have. My house looks beautiful inside at Christmas but I'm I'm boring outside.

Chewbecca · 09/12/2020 22:27

They are popular here in Essex but fortunately it doesn't rain that much here either.
I think they're daft
