Do any of you do this? Or have ideas for alternative Christmas Day dinners?
AIBU to say I’m not cooking this year?

Not for me. Wouldn’t say no to a Thai, though.

qudugv · 09/12/2020 18:15

I could never do this! I love love love Christmas dinner! I look forward to it for weeks. I love a roast dinner but just love all the extra trimmings and the smell of it cooking floating through the house. We always have a takeaway on Christmas Eve and then a buffet style dinner Boxing Day. Do whatever makes you happy! I honestly can't understand people getting a take out Christmas Day, it just wouldn't ever feel like Christmas.

alisha556655 · 09/12/2020 18:16

We have indian/pakistani food for our Christmas dinner, go for it!

WhyDoYouAsk · 09/12/2020 18:17

Patricia
I know.
No cards, very few presents too.
No extended family, no Mum 😭
I’m not going to worry about it.
We’ll just have a nice quiet day. I hope you do too.

You can have indian style roast dinner, so much better than the english one in my opinion but I’m biased

TheWernethWife · 09/12/2020 18:18

We’d have egg, chips and beans on Christmas Day - sounds a bloody good idea.

WhyDoYouAsk · 09/12/2020 18:19

Ahh, you’re all lovely! Even those of you who wouldn’t do it yourself! Glad I posted. We get stuck in tradition and this year is different for many of us. A year to do anything that makes you happy I think!

When I was in my early twenties I bought a turkey and all the bits on Xmas Eve from Safeway. Both my housemate and I were hosting a few friemds who werent travelling home . We all went to the pub and got smashed and on xmas morning realised the turkey was too big to go in our tiny cooker and we were too hungover to tackle it. We all went to a Middle Eastern resturant in Paddington instead.

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/12/2020 18:22

Well this has convinced me.
I'm going to have
Chicken satay skewers.
Salt and pepper tofu
Crispy seaweed
Singapore rice noodles
Roast duck with mushrooms
Fried beansprouts and tomatoes
Sweet and sour king prawns.

lynsey91 · 09/12/2020 18:25

Me and DH love cooking and normally cook Christmas dinner for 16 people (in another family member's house).

This year, because of covid, we are spending Christmas on our own and are going to cook Christmas dinner just for us two. If we didn't like cooking though we would definitely have indian.

Mind you where we live now there are no decent indian restaurants which we are not happy about

fatherliamdeliverance · 09/12/2020 18:28

I'll be on my own i think (might see a couple of pals throughout the day) and am thinking of making an awesome homemade Indian veggie meal. a takeaway would be brilliant but I love cooking and its a big part of the day for me.

Rhayader · 09/12/2020 18:30

I like getting a Chinese on Boxing Day or Christmas Eve. I would never have something alternative on Christmas Day but it’s nice to have something totally different on one of the adjacent days.

Kiwi93 · 09/12/2020 18:33

Been having an Indian the last few Christmas’s now, no cooking or mess it’s brilliant.

LST · 09/12/2020 18:35

We normally go out for a curry on Christmas day. Have done for years, but its looking like a takeaway this year as even if we go into tier 2 the 3 households who would normally go to the curryhouse wouldn't be allowed to anyway!

We are considering having Indian this year as our local restaurant is open and we usually host each year but there will just be myself Dh and Dd and we love Indian food
A couple of years ago we had Christmas with just the 3 of us so instead of having a Christmas dinner we cooked a really nice brunch with lovely ingredients from our local farm shop.It was delicious. In the evening we had gammon with salad etc and a cheese board.

pumpkinpie01 · 09/12/2020 18:42

I would love an Indian on Christmas Day but it's the first time fil has come to ours since losing mil and he doesn't like Indian food so I would feel mean if that's what we did ☹️

Worriedandabitscared · 09/12/2020 18:43

Even though this is off topic the best Christmas dinner I ever had was chippy haha, our table broke with all the food on it and my mum had a melt down and ordered us a take away Grin I say go for it!

MargosKaftan · 09/12/2020 18:44

Oh and we have Christmas Dinner at lunchtime, usually around 1pm. (Small dcs means we are up at "first sparrow's fart" time, so loads of time to put the turkey on!) So have something like sarnies and cake in the evening when the dcs are hungry again. This year, they've requested burgers in the evening, I've decided I can see no reason why not.

We also do fish and chips on Christmas eve.

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 09/12/2020 18:52

We do every year now. Kids won't eat a Christmas dinner and we can't be bothered cooking for two.

chunkyrun · 09/12/2020 18:56

So tempted this year it's just me and my 3 year old

Eviebeans · 09/12/2020 18:57

Sounds perfect to me
Will be having fish and chips from take away on boxing day

Thisyearcandoone · 09/12/2020 18:58

I would love to have a take away!

mindutopia · 09/12/2020 18:58

My mum and I used to go out for a nice chinese on Christmas (it was just the two of us, she couldn't be asked to cook, I was vegetarian anyway!). It was really special. I'm not sure I'd feel the same about a takeaway, but a fun trip out for dinner was really nice.
