Yet another friend duped by Fabletics and their offers.

It relies on busy people, usually without much cash thinking that their offer is too good to be true before they find out a few weeks later that another £44 has gone out of their account and that they actually signed up to a subscription for leggings.

It's just such a seedy way for someone who is already well off, who lives a pious yoga/spiritual life splashed all over Instagram, to make more money.

@MyGazeboisLeaking

I would say absent members are built in to their projections - people who won't get round to ^ cancelling and wont^ take the products each month.

It's not illegal but it feels unethical. It's not a business model that I would be proud to stand by, to be honest.^^

😂 There is nothing unethical on not cancelling customer's contract if they don't say they want it cancelled. If anything I would question ethics of a company who would be randomly cancelling them

Yep, exactly.

Still wouldn't buy anything from a celeb though unless it's stuff I really really REALLY need and couldn't get anywhere else - either product itself, design or value.

Leggings? Does it make you fly or something? Do you get fitter instantly? More often than not, celeb products are rubbish (or 'same ol same ol') relying on their brand to push, in my opinion.

NoPainNoTartine · 06/12/2020 19:07

FitterHappierMoreProductive
you are the one being obtuse, YOU might not be interested, others are. So what? What's wrong with buying new leggings every month.

It's absolutely what you expect and it's clearly written right there.

When a company is very clear on what they are selling, they are the opposite of a scam.

FitterHappierMoreProductive · 06/12/2020 19:08

And over 1/5th of all their reviews on trust pilot are poor or terrible, says it all.

LovePoppy · 06/12/2020 19:08
@DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult

The entire website is deliberately obtuse.

And yes, some people do lack basic reading skills, hence why websites shouldn't be deliberately obtuse.
But it’s not though. It says often it’s a subscription.

This company has been around for years, none of this should be a surprise to anybody.

Kate Hudson hasnt made them, it's a huge company with lots of product designers etc. It's a proper business!
vanillandhoney · 06/12/2020 19:08
@vanillandhoney not sure why I can't quote you, I do see the comparison you are making but I just don't get how its a viable business model for leggings if they haven't just set it up that way to get extra money from the people who forget to skip or cancel. I've had months when I've not really used my Netflix account but I keep it because its a service I want to use in the future. The Fabletics model is kinda like a savings account but you can only spend the money on leggings (I'm not sure if they sell other sportsware), if you didn't pay the subscription you would still have the same money to buy leggings and you could buy them from anywhere!

Lots of people saying you 'simply' have to cancel after getting the special offer, but everyone can't be doing this or it would make the business model completely pointless. One PP has said they used the subscription for a substantial amount of workout gear which is fair enough but how common is that?

You could set up a subscription model for anything, but that doesn't mean that you should!
I don't think you can quote a quote Grin

Loads of companies are set up like this - fair enough to object to the principle of a subscription service, but I don't see why Fabletics is being singled out here.

I mean, you say you've kept your Netflix even if you've not really used it some months - but you could have cancelled it for a few months and re-started it when there were shows you wanted to watch - for me, that's no different to Fabletics, or Amazon Prime, or any other subscription service out there.

It's not Fabletics fault people don't cancel their membership. Same as it's not the fault of the gym if people sign up in January for a year and stop going in March.

Actually this website does question the legality of it -

Fableticssuck.co.uk

They say that because the VIP membership is not 'opt in' that The practice of automatically charging every month for something you don't want is known as Inertia Selling and is unlawful under UK Law (Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 as amended)

DesperatelySeekingSunshine · 06/12/2020 19:09

I’m not a member, but the thing I love about their website, and that I wish more companies would do, is that they post the outfits on a range of model sizes, so I can get a better idea of how something would fit on me.

FitterHappierMoreProductive · 06/12/2020 19:09

I suspect you don’t understand the meaning of the word obtuse. Because you may think I’m wrong, but I wasn’t being obtuse.

That is because people usually skip reviews if it's just a normal experience but tend to write about amazing and especially tend to write if they weren't happy. Online reviews are very skewed.

Especially if they are written by people angry for being charged a subscription service they willingly signed up to🤷🏻

vanillandhoney · 06/12/2020 19:10

Exactly!

Imagine the uproar if you'd paid for a service, went to use that service and were told your subscription was cancelled and tough luck.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 06/12/2020 19:11

You would need to be pretty slow on the uptake to not know you were signing up to a subscription. They make it really clear.

ikltownofboothlehem · 06/12/2020 19:12

I guess it's sad that we live in a world where businesses work that way.

You surely don't think all business are or ever were ethical? It's how they make profits.

vanillandhoney · 06/12/2020 19:12

But ALL subscription services work like that. It's not unique to Fabletics. Netflix, Prime, NowTV, gyms - they all work on the basis that you sign up and pay each month unless you change your mind and cancel.

Companies can't just go around cancelling people's subscriptions or memberships for no good reason!

FitterHappierMoreProductive · 06/12/2020 19:12

@SchrodingersImmigrant not sure I agree about that - companies spam you all the time to leave a review these days, and decent companies have much better trustpilot ratings

You accuse others of being so, because they don't agree with the OP. Hence my comment.

Peanutbutterblood · 06/12/2020 19:13

I think customer service is absolutely shit but I will admit the leggings are great. I eventually (shit customer service) got the 2 for £24 offer and then swiftly cancelled. I didnt find it hard to cancel. I fully intend to get the 2 for £24 offer again with my husband email some day

NoPainNoTartine · 06/12/2020 19:15

What on earth is unethical about setting up a subscription business, when it couldn't be explained any clearer?

vanillandhoney · 06/12/2020 19:15

@NoPainNoTartine

Nothing.

People just like to complain because...they're getting what they signed up for, I guess?

FitterHappierMoreProductive · 06/12/2020 19:16

@vanillandhoney

But the reason fabletics is using the subscription model is specifically to get cash out of people who don’t use the subscription- it can be the only reason. Very few people act want leggings all the time. Unlike Netflix (which is massively cheaper incidentally), where people usually would sign up wanting a long term service.

Fabletics is clearly cynically a subscription service, not because it makes any sense for the product being sold.

And I notice none of the fans address the literacy issue?

Witchcraftandhokum · 06/12/2020 19:16

You really need to look up the definition of 'obtuse'. There's absolutely nothing obtuse about the website.

Anyone who doesn't realise this is a subscription site is a bit thick.

Yeah well, that's what spam filter is for😁
Most people ignore review requests. Otherwise you would have trillion reviews everywhere.

tappingintherain · 06/12/2020 19:17

Ah okay. Going to have to search for this company now to understand what exactly it's about.
