To wonder how Kate Hudson sleeps at night (Fabletics)?

Yet another friend duped by Fabletics and their offers.

It relies on busy people, usually without much cash thinking that their offer is too good to be true before they find out a few weeks later that another £44 has gone out of their account and that they actually signed up to a subscription for leggings.

It's just such a seedy way for someone who is already well off, who lives a pious yoga/spiritual life splashed all over Instagram, to make more money.

@Mrbob

I find it more depressing that a company would encourage you to own that many pairs of leggings. As if there isn’t enough waste in the world Sad
Who are you to say ots a waste? I wear leggings everyday. Why should I not have enough to fit my needs? Or are you suggesting I waste water by washing them every day and electricity to dry them every day?
MyGazeboisLeaking · 06/12/2020 21:33

@Fruitsaladjelly

I love the leggings but wouldn’t want ‘outfits’. I would spend far more if they ditched the subscription idea and just sold stuff at fair prices. As is I just go and buy on eBay

Absolutely this.

The leggings and hoodies I have from the site are really good quality.

I'd be far more inclined to buy from the site again if they ditched their hyper inflated 'regular' price - become a VIP Member to get 50% off - you must have this top with that bottom - approach, and just had normal, common or garden selling model.

StanfordPines · 06/12/2020 21:34

@AccidentallyOnPurpose

If people lack reading skills to that extent, and I don’t doubt some people do, how have they even managed to get to the website?

FB add, MN add, heard it from a friend etc.

A 6 yo knows how to google and click on a link.

And then fill out the details, credit card detail, clothing size etc.

Yes a 6 year old could Google it but would they go through all that?

vanillandhoney · 06/12/2020 21:35

@LadyTiredWinterBottom2

It was definitely dodgy before, not sure about now. But if it's so obvious people would not keep getting caught out.

Who needs new athletic gear every month? Has she not heard of the environmental impact of clothing? I'm sure Mumma Kate has preached to us about the environment before.

I wear leggings everyday. I work a physical outdoors job and they get muddy, wet and sweaty and covered in dog hair. Putting them through that daily means they don't last forever.

I don't buy Fabletics but I probably get new leggings every couple of months or so. I live in them so they're not going to last forever. £49 a month for leggings is ridiculous to me so I don't pay for a service that changes that kind of price.

If people get caught out, that's on them. It's not Fabletics fault they've missed the four or five warnings about what they're signing up for.

Leaannb · 06/12/2020 21:36

@SansaSpark...Plenty of people buy and wear leggings regularly and even replace them regularly. I have about 20 pairs because I wear them everyday. Itss better to have enough to fit my lifestyle then wasting water and electricity not to mention time

StanfordPines · 06/12/2020 21:36

Yeah their countdown clock is apparently unlawful too.

Really? Loads of companies have them. Someone better tell White Stuff for a start.

@StanfordPimrs...Its not the company's fault that people are too lazy to read the web page or that they ignore the many emails every month. They do their due diligence

Theirs in unlawful because the offer doesn't actually expire, whereas on White Stuff it does.

With my PR hat on (many years of experience) I would say that perhaps when they launched they were pushing the lines of hard sell / ambiguous marketing, but for the last 18 months or so it really has been very clear that it's a subscription and will be charged if not cancelled - similar to Netflix or Amazon prime. It's like saying if you didn't realise they were subscriptions but didn't watch anything you are owed the money back. Sure, in theory a business could agree with that but in reality they aren't obligated to when the terms of the subscription are as clear as they are with Netflix, prime and Fabletics. It is reiterated throughout the site, presumably to protect them legally, including at checkout - and the brand is not responsible for people wilfully ignoring information that is presented to them.

Knickerthief1 · 06/12/2020 21:54

Well thanks from me OP because I've come close to buying before and assumed being a VIP member meant you just had to register! I never went as far as buying so can't say whether I'd have picked it up further on but I didn't realise it was a subscription service when I was browsing! But it must be wonderful to be infallible like so many others obviously are!!

I completely agree.

I’ve always wondered about the tv ads that run for years with offers that end on ‘Monday’.

😂 why, how many pair is an acceptable number for you?
Are women allowed extra when they wear them as part of their job?

Seems like this post saved at least a couple of people from the same fate as my friend so that's made it worthwhile.

I'm hopeful she'll be a little bit more savvy next time she shops online, bless her!

Imagine the uproar if you'd paid for a service, went to use that service and were told your subscription was cancelled and tough luck.

Straw man. Leggings are a product not a service. The two are not comparable.

This thread feels a lot like the ones of people defending MLM pyramid schemes "because capitalism" and "I really like their lip gloss so I don't care if their lip gloss is just a front for a scam" .

Bit like Al Capone's launderettes.

NoPainNoTartine · 06/12/2020 22:12

I am sure the company is grateful too as the publicity of this thread is generating quite a few more sales too. Win win.

PronkWine · 06/12/2020 22:13

I've looked at them before and it's very obviously a subscription service, it goes on and on about it.

NoPainNoTartine · 06/12/2020 22:14

except that there's nothing remotely misleading on here, just people who can't be arsed to read properly and complain about it.

geekone · 06/12/2020 22:15

I am a member of a times wine club subscription, which I didn’t read the small print and should have. However I did notice in my paperwork and emails and know I can keep postponing (just like I did for hello fresh) it it’s handy for Christmas though and the wine is nice. I should have noticed. It’s not the wine companies fault. They gave me a fantastic entry deal.
There are loads of wine subscriptions exactly the same and I never hear anyone saying anything bad about them like they do fabletics. It does sound weirdly like the OPs personal cause to discredit Kate Hudson and fabletics.

I don't like the way they work - and it's interesting to get other's take on it.

If what I'm saying discredits her or her company then that's a consequence of the way they choose to run their business.

There's no ulterior motive here.

If they know what they're getting and are happy with it, then good for them. It's a bargain if you understand it and play it right.

If I didn't disagree with their business model so fundamentally I would be inclined to buy some myself!

Piglet89 · 06/12/2020 22:28

but honestly who wants to buy leggings every month, just like MLM if the product was any good they could just sell them in a shop. It's such an odd thing to have on a subscription service that I can't see any non devious reasons for setting it up that way.

This.

windysocks · 06/12/2020 22:33

@AccidentallyOnPurpose thanks for pointing that out.

doadeer · 06/12/2020 22:34

They have about 20 stores. They began as a pure play (online only) that was their business model, just like beauty pie, asos, misguided etc - then opened stores later. It's not dodgy at all!

combatbarbie · 06/12/2020 22:35

My daughter managed this.... I went through them like a tonne of bricks as she's 13, with her own bank card which I fail to understand why it doesn't notify its a child's card not an over 16/18. She didn't realise she'd signed up, just thought it was a good deal and then panicked the following month. However she does rate the leggings.

To be fair, customer service was great and refunded straight away.
