To wonder how Kate Hudson sleeps at night (Fabletics)?

Yet another friend duped by Fabletics and their offers.

It relies on busy people, usually without much cash thinking that their offer is too good to be true before they find out a few weeks later that another £44 has gone out of their account and that they actually signed up to a subscription for leggings.

It's just such a seedy way for someone who is already well off, who lives a pious yoga/spiritual life splashed all over Instagram, to make more money.

I was a member of a music subscription thing in the 80s - that long ago there were no websites and they'd write to you each month telling you what the album was for that month. You'd tick the yes/no box on the postcard and send it back.

WillSantaBeComingToTown · 06/12/2020 18:37

@evenmoreforthemoor

I think the point is that you have to opt out of the subscription which if you go for the 2 for £24 or whatever it is is not obvious until the final page. It's in a side bar - which lots of people don't read on a 'normal' website.

It's shitty and I know several people caught out by it.

It is on the front page- no side bar! In great big grey boxes with minimal text in them- so no confusion. You can't miss it.
CodenameVillanelle · 06/12/2020 18:37

I've done a fabletics 2 for 24 3 times and their leggings are great. I've sold two of the 2pairs for over £20 each so it's a bargain. Every time I went onto the site a day after they arrived and spent 5 minutes on live chat cancelling the account. Piece of piss. Anyone who struggles to grasp the concept needs to blame themselves not fabletics

AnaisNun · 06/12/2020 18:37

When I ran and had daily dance/PT classes (before DC obviously), I signed up to fabletics for 6 months to build up a “work out wardrobe”. It spread the cost of what turned out to be q a lot of gymwear that I needed- and I’m still (squeezing into) wearing them 4 years later.

I don’t think it’s any “shadier” than gusto, hello fresh, graze, beauty box or those period product subscriptions tbh- that is to say- not at all...

Chamonixshoopshoop · 06/12/2020 18:38

Totally agree Op.
I even RANG THEM to check my one-off payment was just that.
They said on the phone it was. I wish I had recorded it.
Apparently not all phone calls are recorded, only some.
I ended up with £220 accruing and my choice was to spend it on 10 or so awful 'outfits'... they wouldn't let me buy individual pieces, and wouldn't refund a penny.

The outfits often have one nice piece, that sells well and one god awful piece. I ended up getting some mesh hotpants I didn't want as it came with the only top that was half decent.

The quality is appalling and a year later I have had to throw it all out,
FABLETICS IS AWFUL! Kate Hudson is rich enough, she doesn't need to endorse knock-off clothes.

evenmoreforthemoor · 06/12/2020 18:38

If you go via a mobile the landing page is just lots of leggings. If you click on a pair of the 2 for £24 leggings the VIP price is crossed out. The only place you see anything about the joining the VIP thang is in your shopping basket where it's in a side bar.

I would have seen this, and I know enough about Fabletics to not sign up. But she's pretty naive and doesn't buy off the internet often.

As I said before - it's shitty to make your money off (possibly naive) people who don't actually want what you're selling them. I couldn't draw an income from that.

Maybe I'm too nice?!

Whether it’s obvious or not, it’s a pretty shitty business model. WHY exactly would you want to be seen to encourage people to buy more stuff than they need and just add to the landfill problems we are facing...

LuckyNumberThirteen · 06/12/2020 18:40

I don't understand why anyone would want that many pairs of leggings

9bt9 · 06/12/2020 18:41

The mobile page has at the top about it being a subscription service, just below the main splash image, it also has a more detailed explanation further down on front page and also has a how it works page in the menu. I think they make it very clear its a subscription

evenmoreforthemoor · 06/12/2020 18:42

@WillSantaBeComingToTown

Not what I get on the front page - her neither

I presume you feel the same about all the other monthly subscription services or introductory offers out there, then? Netflix, Amazon Prime, NowTV, Spotify, BritBox, Gousto, Hello Fresh? Or all the companies that offer monthly deliveries of fruit, veg, flowers, wine, chocolates, socks, underwear?

MyGazeboisLeaking · 06/12/2020 18:43

I know what you mean, OP.

It is 'clear' that it's a subscription and you will be charged, but they do rely on people NOT skipping the month or cancelling - otherwise why would they set up such a bizarre business model for a leisurewear business?

To be fair, I think their stuff is good. I ordered a few outfits last year then set a reminder on my phone to skip each month before X to avoid the charge. I eventually cancelled via online chat.

I imagine they must dupe a number of people into paying more than they want - not everyone who buys on line is switched on or savvy.

That's just not true I typed "fabletics" into google, clicked on the link and got this page.

"When you become a VIP MEMBER".

some people really are too hard of thinking to be trusted with a debit/credit card

Loads of companies operate like that. If you don't want to be charged, pay for the introductory offer then cancel right away afterwards.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 06/12/2020 18:45

@vanillandhoney I don't think its comparable to Netflix or a beauty box because in both these cases you are getting a product or service each month. This is just taking some money out your account so you can possibly buy some leggings. They aren't sending out a product each month. I guess you could say they are paying for the service of being allowed to buy some of their leggings.

Does anyone actually want a subscription service for leggings? If everyone is just signing up for the offer and then cancelling then what's the point?

Smartiepants79 · 06/12/2020 18:47

I’ve just realised I’ve fallen for this and I’m really disappointed- In myself and the website! It clearly was not very obvious to me that it’s a subscription service or I wouldn’t have signed up but I accept that it was my mistake. I’ll spend my credit for this month and then cancel. Luckily I can afford the hit financially.
I also really liked the product and would have gone back to buy again when I needed but I don’t need new clothes every month and I certainly don’t need new leggings every month!
I won’t be buying again now as I feel (fairly or not) a bit conned.

vanillandhoney · 06/12/2020 18:47

@evenmoreforthemoor

The majority of the first page is 5* reviews.

Again, if you don't want to be charged further, the onus is on you as the consumer to cancel. Like PP, I've forgotten to cancel subscription services before - I wouldn't complain to company about it!

evenmoreforthemoor · 06/12/2020 18:47

@RaspberryCoulis

I'm not lying - the page I posted is the one I got, maybe because I have visited the site in the past? Don't know.

Do you know all gyms rely on this business model too? No gym could cope if everyone who paid membership turned up regularly.

tappingintherain · 06/12/2020 18:48

What's Kate Hudson's business in this? She got paid to promote stuff and she did. What do you want from her - to do the research for you?

What I'm yet to understand is why some people buy stuff because a celeb is promoting it. I mean really?!

@vanillandhoney - I wonder if it seems different because most of those things are consumables?

(Although Freddie's Flowers did catch me out at first).

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 06/12/2020 18:49

Whatever their website is, I doubt it's obtuse as that means slow to understand. It may be obscure?

9bt9 · 06/12/2020 18:50

I think that's pretty clear.
