To wonder how Kate Hudson sleeps at night (Fabletics)?

Yet another friend duped by Fabletics and their offers.

It relies on busy people, usually without much cash thinking that their offer is too good to be true before they find out a few weeks later that another £44 has gone out of their account and that they actually signed up to a subscription for leggings.

It's just such a seedy way for someone who is already well off, who lives a pious yoga/spiritual life splashed all over Instagram, to make more money.

I don’t think it could be much more obvious it’s a subscription. Unless they changed the name to subscription-leggings.com, which I feel may be a bit harder to market.

It’s a shame for your friend; but if she’s prepared to shop online, she should be prepared to do the most basic level of research. Same goes for those others being duped.

CarmenSanDiego2020 · 06/12/2020 18:19

The leggings are fab. Got 4 pairs and cancelled membership.
Really good customer service. No complaints.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 06/12/2020 18:20

@FourTeaFallOut

It's a subscription service, it's just how it works. It's clear that it's a subscription service.

Are other people with different subscription services as equally shocked and horrified when their stuff actually, you know, arrives?

Oh maybe I've misunderstood, I didn't think they kept sending you leggings, I thought they just took money and added it to your account, you still had to choose to spend the money or it just sits there in their bank account?
modgepodge · 06/12/2020 18:21

I used to be a member. I knew exactly what I’d signed up to, as I read the information when I joined. They also emailed me on the first of each month with new outfits for the month, and instructions at the bottom of the email on how to skip the month or cancel completely, and telling me I’d be billed a few days later if I didn’t. And, to their credit, when I forgot to skip the month in time and got billed, I phoned them and they refunded me.

Fabletics gets bad press, but I really don’t see what the issue is. Your friend can probably phone and get a refund, if she’s had her fill of leggings for now.

evenmoreforthemoor · 06/12/2020 18:22

@LivingDeadGirlUK

It was proper sketchy when it started, they have made it a lot clearer probably because they got a lot of bad publicity for it.

I got into a row about this in a running group, a lot of people were of the 'its their own fault, its really easy to cancel or skip each month' but honestly who wants to buy leggings every month, just like MLM if the product was any good they could just sell them in a shop. It's such an odd thing to have on a subscription service that I can't see any non devious reasons for setting it up that way.

Exactly.

It's set up to make money out of people who don't read stuff properly. And it's deliberately obtuse to make that market even bigger.

It's a shitty way to make your money.
@vanillaandhoney....If it was small print than OP would have a point. But its extremely obvious on their web page that its mainly a subscription service
Yeah, I know - what I'm trying to say is that even if it wasn't all over the homepage, it's still perfectly obvious that it's a subscription service.

But too many people just buy stuff online without reading things properly - when I put in my card details, I like to think about where they're going! Grin

Nope - they're refusing a refund but apparently the banks are very sympathetic and usually do a charge back according to the website set up to warn people about them.

FourTeaFallOut · 06/12/2020 18:24

Oh, maybe it is Livingdead? I looked on the website once, years ago, and realised it was far more fussy that just buying a pair of leggings and so left it at that.

I have had a "bonus" gousto box that I forgot to cancel once, I figured it was the same deal.

minnie465 · 06/12/2020 18:25

I used it. Got my two pairs of leggings for £24 and then just rang up and cancelled the subscription. Easy peasy. And the leggings are great quality

But that's how subscriptions work.

It's a bit like being annoyed because you've paid for Netflix and they've gone ahead and charged you each month. If you don't want to pay £44 a month, cancel your subscription, or don't take the introductory offer at all.

Lots of services offer a free month or a 50% off "introductory offer". It's upto the consumer to cancel if they don't wish to continue and pay full price going forward.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 06/12/2020 18:26

YABU.

And anyone who can just blindly pay out for stuff without reading the terms and conditions can't be that skint !

vanillandhoney · 06/12/2020 18:26

Why should they refund people because they forgot to cancel their subscriptions?

modgepodge · 06/12/2020 18:27

I must have got lucky with my refund then. I remember being wound up and all ready to argue with them and I just said ‘I forgot to skip, I can’t really afford it this month’ and they said ‘ok, no problem, we will refund you’ and it was all very civil!

I too have accidentally had full price hello fresh/gousto boxes full of things I didn’t choose because i forgot to cancel after the introductory offer. I should probably learn my lesson!

RaspberryCoulis · 06/12/2020 18:27

But it CLEARLY says on the landing page "2 for £24 when you become a VIP member"

and further down the page talks about buying for the month or skipping the month.

It is not Kate Hudson's fault that your friend cannot read.

Yes

I’m thinking this can’t be the page that the OP friends feel conned by.

LazyFace · 06/12/2020 18:29

It's not obtuse, totally obvious what it's about.

NuniaBeeswax · 06/12/2020 18:29

Is your "friend" actually you OP

RaspberryCoulis · 06/12/2020 18:30

There's tonnes of posts across lots of forums of people who don't find it obvious. There's even a website - very helpful - called fableticssucks.co.uk which outlines why it is so sketchy.

There are also tonnes of cheeky fucker customers who quite fancy getting the 2 pairs cheap, and don't see why they should have to do the subscription thing, so scream SCAM and make out that they've been duped, when all along it was blindingly obvious what they were signing up for.

user1274245 · 06/12/2020 18:31

How rubbish are their leggings that you need a new pair every month? Confused

No - if it was me I would say it was me.

Well that's their problem isn't it? It's hardly like they're being sold London Bridge. Not the company's fault - or Kate Hudson's - that people ignore the obvious or click past all the terms & conditions pages in their eagerness to snap up a 'bargain'.

I guess it's sad that we live in a world where businesses work that way.

It's exactly the same as the book clubs from years ago isn't it?

LadyFoxtrot · 06/12/2020 18:34

Have to agree with everyone else that I think it’s obvious- and has been for a long time.

I first saw them advertised on Facebook about three years ago, and from the advert alone I could tell it was subscription. Found it even more obvious on the website so didn’t sign up, but I really never misunderstood the concept.
