SherlocksDeerstalker · 05/12/2020 21:21

No. Because that’s not how it works.

Diva66 · 05/12/2020 21:21

No, we should abolish the Monarchy after the queen dies.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 05/12/2020 21:22

Dont be silly its not like working in Tesco, they dont get to pick

Thewithesarehere · 05/12/2020 21:22

Monarchy should be abolished once the queen passed away.

CounsellorTroi · 05/12/2020 21:23

No. We can't choose our monarch. That's how the system works.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 05/12/2020 21:23

No it should be Charles. They're the rulz init

Littlemissnutcracker · 05/12/2020 21:24

No
I don't agree with the Royal Family but to be fair Charles has been waiting long enough.

Lardlizard · 05/12/2020 21:24

I didn’t say he should, did I !! I’m just asking other their opinions
Personally I think the royal family do a good job and work hard and it’s not a job if like to do in a million years !

WitchWandWithBaublesOn · 05/12/2020 21:24

Oooh ! Now there's an idea !

BlackBucketOfCheese · 05/12/2020 21:24

No, monarchy should be abolished when Liz pops her clogs.
A country with a monarchy has no place in modern day society, nor should it have a place on the global stage. Unpack it and send them packing.

Littlemissnutcracker · 05/12/2020 21:26

Has William got enough charisma for the role?

BefuddledPerson · 05/12/2020 21:26

Maybe we should vote on it, instead of this hereditary idea? Could even open it up more widely to other candidates. Might have to change the title from King, how about something like President?

WitchWandWithBaublesOn · 05/12/2020 21:26

I like William and Kate. Don't be mean all you lot who want to send them packing .

Maireas · 05/12/2020 21:27

It's a hereditary constitutional monarchy. As others have pointed out, Charles is the heir. He's had the longest apprenticeship of any heir to the throne. No choice!

flaviaritt · 05/12/2020 21:27

YABU. We don’t get to pick and choose.

Kljnmw3459 · 05/12/2020 21:30

If we get to pick and choose I'd say either Edward. He'd be a steady, non-controversial king. Or harry for a woke king. Beatrice or eugenie as a wild card.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/12/2020 21:30

I want to say yes, S I think Charles, Camilla and Queenie deserve a quiet retirement

BananaPop2020 · 05/12/2020 21:32

I am with @Diva66 and @BlackBucketOfCheese. I struggle to see how the monarchy fits with the way we live today. The last year or so has perfectly illustrated how out of touch and irrelevant they are.

Maireas · 05/12/2020 21:34

Mind you, looking around, often presidents aren't much better Confused

CanIPutMyTreeUpYet · 05/12/2020 21:35

King Tampax? I don’t think so. I think we should get rid of the monarchy once the queen dies, but that’s just my opinion.

SaucyHorse · 05/12/2020 21:35

It would be a bit harsh on Prince Charles who has been preparing to be king his entire life. It's his whole raison d'être, imagine pulling the rug from under him at the last second.

AnnnaBananna · 05/12/2020 21:36

I doubt William wants to be King just yet. He has a young family and is still able to have a family life and a bit of freedom. Once he becomes King that will be gone. Charles will take the throne for as long as possible to keep it off William’s shoulders.

Brefugee · 05/12/2020 21:36

Nope. Frankly? the monarchy should be abolished.

But if you have a monarchy, you have to take it as it is and how it works, otherwise what's the point? they are supposed to be chosen by god, hence no abdications and no skipping generations.

larrythelizard · 05/12/2020 21:37

It depends, do we get a bank holiday or something for a coronation? If so I'd play the long game and have Charles, bet he won't last as long as as his mum and so we'd get another bank holiday within what - 10/20 years?

If it went straight to William, you'd have to assume no additional bank holiday for 50/60 years!

Cocomarine · 05/12/2020 21:37

@SherlocksDeerstalker

No. Because that’s not how it works.
First response has it exactly! I do not understand why this gets asked so often. Either you believe in “monarchy” - in which case, that’s pretty much the point, you don’t get to choose - or you don’t.
