I am with *@Diva66 and @BlackBucketOfCheese*. I struggle to see how the monarchy fits with the way we live today. The last year or so has perfectly illustrated how out of touch and irrelevant they are.

It's really not happy how hereditary monarchy works.

If you want someone other than Charles to be the next king then let's do away with hereditary monarchy and pick someone off the X factor or some type competition to region over us.

Anachronistic and outdated. An institution propped up on careful management of the public's view of them, feeding them just enough scraps to keep the support.

The entire point of a monarchy is that you don’t have a say. You get who you get. Tough titty.

For those of you who think the monarchy should be abolished after the Queen dies, then put your money where your mouth is and join REPUBLIC. It's a pressure group which has been advocating for this since its formal inception in 2006.
It's a legitimate limited company, not a band of "leftie" anarchists, and what you will read about the Royal Family's finances for example, is real eye-opening stuff.

I think he probably will be anyway. Charles is officially the next king, however will he really want the role? He doesn't exactly like the limelight, he's very old now, will he want to up his responsibilities at his age? I wouldn't want to and he can abdicate.

Maybe he won't abdicate and will take it on, but at his age I think it would be a bad idea. William should be the next king, even if that means bypassing Charles. But it's Charles' decision, not ours.

Once the Queen dies, or before, we should have a referendum on whether we keep a monarchy or whether we become a republic.
