I am off to the Maldives. It is awesome. I am going on a plane. Then when we come back we are off to Switzerland, skiing. I have missed the world.

There is no reason for my post except I am excited!

@ineedaholidaynow

You can still be incubating the virus, I would hate to take it to another country
Confused god almighty
Pootle40 · 09/12/2020 20:56

@daisypond

I’m sorry, I don’t think anyone should be wilfully travelling on holiday (x2) right now, let alone posting about it in some gleeful way. I’m embarrassed for you.
I am lost for words. Embarrassed.....seriously?!
chocolatesaltyxmaspudballs · 09/12/2020 20:58

Are you embarrassed for me as well @daisypond? I went to Turkey and Italy this summer and it was fucking fabulous.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 09/12/2020 21:04

Lovely I would love to get away and desperately need a holiday

DimidDavilby

Stop fucking flying if you love the planet so much

Well can’t really argue with that ^

Offtothedogs · 09/12/2020 21:07

I was chatting to someone this eve who went on holiday abroad in half term with extended family, two of whom subsequently tested positive the day after they returned. So they were incubating it while on holiday, visiting bars and restaurants and generally doing holiday stuff, and then spread it around two different flights. It feels a bit pointless to be so drastically restricted in our daily lives while people are freely spreading it all over the place because they need a bit of sun so badly.

CheltenhamLady · 10/12/2020 13:45

I don't think it is necessarily sun people want, although of course, that is great, it is more a change of scenery and a respite from the unremitting doom of the UK.

We will be off abroad after Xmas and we have a weekend away this coming weekend (to Chester) booked. We are looking forward to it.

Circumlocutious · 21/12/2020 14:28

Switzerland has just suspended all flights to and from the UK. Update OP?

xmasfairybuns · 21/12/2020 14:36

Other people are not lucky and so I will always do my bit to help.

I'm sure that your post did oh so much to help people who are not as lucky.

Long read but really helpful in choosing a way to offset your carbon emissions from all your flights OP/ other travellers.

@Gherkin14

Sorry but an nhs dr working in icu I find this really irresponsible. I assume you had a covid test prior to flying...and despite being negative you could still be a carrier. A carrier to somewhere with a much less efficient healthcare system than here...what about the local population? Perhaps it’s just a bit of jealously on my part after a long day in covid icu and having cancelled some special holidays this year voluntarily to help minimise the spread but also because getting leave right now is pretty impossible. My colleagues and I are at breaking point, we’ve had covid since February. People (including young and healthy) are still dying. Just stay at home
Thank you for your service Flowers I really wish people would stop being so selfish. We're all finding it a strain but until people stay in it will never end.

Will you be travelling to a different tier? If so are you alliwed?
Cocomarine · 21/12/2020 15:00

“If you are a traveller”

You’re going to a completely self contained hotel on an island, followed by the micro-environment of a ski resort.

Enjoy your holiday, enjoy being a tourist, but stop with all this affected, “I’m a traveller” nonsense. Yours just someone who can afford expensive holiday, is all 🤣

FluffyMcWuffy · 21/12/2020 15:13

Not wishing to piss on your bonfire and all that OP but I have a Swiss friend who has confirmed that Switzerland is closing most if not all of its
Ski resorts to foreigners. Assuming of course you are not Swiss but you might want to double check before you get your connecting flight

DontBeShelfish · 21/12/2020 15:26

What a smug post.

santasavesxmas · 21/12/2020 17:24

This is awful!!! And I say that as someone who loves holidays ("travelling"?!) and used to take the plane multiple times a year to go away, lived abroad, the whole shebang. Big backpacker whilst at university too so really do get it.

Your posts are boastful and tone-deaf tbh, you crow about how lucky you are. I am "lucky" so it's not coming from a place of jealousy or spite, I just don't think you're helping people at all - also why boast about travelling in a pandemic? It's a ridiculous thing to be proud of.

In any other time, it would be warming to hear this kind of news and I'd think "why not, good for you" - but really, in a pandemic? Why do you deserve travel more than others? Have you been paying attention to government advice?

I would absolutely KILL for a Maldives/Caribbean/luxury holiday but I thought we were advised not to travel anywhere apart from essential travel?!?

x2boys · 21/12/2020 17:31

Did the Op manage to get home ?

Dyrne · 21/12/2020 17:38

Even odds they’re one of those travellers on BBC news with the shocked pikachu face that travelling during a global pandemic can result in being trapped out of the country. Who knew?

x2boys · 21/12/2020 17:39

@Dyrne 😂 now ,now .

laidbacklife · 21/12/2020 18:05

Lucky you! I’d go and not come back!!!! Enjoy!

cologne4711 · 21/12/2020 18:10

No point having a test then is there?

Cocomarine · 21/12/2020 18:20

Well, she might not have a choice about your “not come back” but 🤣
CheltenhamLady · 21/12/2020 18:25

@lazyarse123, it was last weekend and we did travel to another tier, but the hotel knew and had no issues with it. During our stay we were very covid safe and basically walked and walked on our own socially distanced, by the river, in the park etc. We had a lovely weekend away and felt very covid secure.

NeonBella · 21/12/2020 18:29

This is one of the worst, tone deaf posts I've ever seen on here.
Op, you've come across as a bit of a wanky twat which you probably are irl too ("I'm a traveller" 😂).
Have a fabulous time explicitly going against travel regulations whilst also boasting about it.
(I'm assuming this is the kind of response you were hoping for. Otherwise why post this when you know that there are many, many extremely unhappy people right now?)

x2boys · 21/12/2020 18:31

To be fair @NeonBella the op did start this thread on the 5th of December ,so wether she managed to get home who knows ?
