She’s 51 and looks like she’s in her 30s naturally, with no cosmetic intervention other than make up IMHO. How?!

@Comfortzone

Can't imagine a group of males commenting on Vernon like this btw - how does he look so well he must have had work done etc

They'd probably say good on you Vernon for looking so well.

Females can be strange much of the time with their competitive preening and comments about how their fellow gender 'looks' or gets to look a certain way. Why is this still a thing? Yawn.

Can you not imagine why? I’d guess because it’s still a thing that women, especially in entertainment, are judged predominantly on their looks. Men are allowed to be much less good-looking/groomed/young and still get work and adulation.

Have you ever heard men discussing a woman’s appearance? Can be brutal.

Uptoongirl · 06/12/2020 10:30

I've just looked at her Instagram and its heavily filtered, not just a bit of soft focus and good lighting but properly filtered. She's great looking and had a great figure but that level of filtering just seems unnecessary. If I looked at 100s of pictures of myself filtered than caught sight of myself in the mirror I would imagine that would be very unnerving.

Requinblanc · 06/12/2020 10:32

Why do people always assume that if an older woman looks good it is because of cosmetic surgery? that is just catty...

The woman is tall, slim and was always pretty (a former model).

She has access to a great wardrobe and professional make up as well as TV studio lighting. She must keep herself in good physical shape with exercise/a good diet and has the money to get nice treatments for her skin.

Maybe people should look at their own diet/exercise routine before having a go at these women...

She does not look to me like she had major cosmetic surgery.

None has said major cosmetic surgery. It's totally normal for women in her position to have had fillers and botox, teeth, laser etc.

She doesn't just look good, she looks 25. And that isn't normal however blessed you are with good genes.

@grassisjeweled

Christie Brinkley is 66 according to goggol, I think she looks absolutely incredible. I need her surgeon!
Christine Brinkley is stunningly beautiful but absolutely looks done.
Besswess88 · 06/12/2020 10:46

She has a droopy eye which always signals a lot of Botox usage (Bev Callard does too) and I wish she would sack the stylist, he wardrobe is so full.

Besswess88 · 06/12/2020 10:46

Dull

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/12/2020 10:47

It’s really bad for the mental health of the average ageing woman to have these AMAZING looking celebrities and assume they are just naturally beautiful and flawless. This stuff takes work.

I know we have some mumsnetters with paintings in the attic and the legendary Mumsnet chicken also extends to the Mumsnet 50 year old with NO wrinkles, but your average women post 40 doesn’t look like TD. They also don’t look like Jennifer Aniston or Sharon Stone or Liz Hurley!

@Anothertiredmother

Financial security and not having the 9-5 drudgery that the rest of us have to put up with
I have financial security, don't work, have no stresses, no children, have botox, profilo, fillers and skin peels, am tall, slim and blonde, have great cheekbones and have had my eyes done. I don't smoke or drink and wear spf50 every day. I'm a couple of years younger and I can tell you now, I don't look even close to how she looks. Forehead lines are easy to get rid of with a bit of botox but loss of elastin and collagen and the start of jowls is something altogether different. Keeping a taut jawline like Tess, Claudia, Gwen, Kylie etc at 50+ is a mystery to me. Tess in particular doesn't look like she's had a facelift to me, so Christ only knows what her secret is.
Sceptre86 · 06/12/2020 11:29

She has classic looks, model height and figure and the money to be able to access organic food and cosmetics, procedures and the like. She doesn't have the same stresses as the average mum and that makes a world of difference. Most women will not look like her at 51 and shouldn't feel pressured or expectbto either.

NurseButtercup · 06/12/2020 11:33

Drink loads of water, stop drinking alcohol & caffeine, daily exercise, cut out red meat, sugar and processed foods and watch your portion sizes. And get plenty of sleep.

This is the lifestyle my close friends follow, they are in their 50's, no wrinkles and no sagging necks etc. And none of them have ever had botox, fillers etc, they could easily pass for early 30's.

You don't have to be rich to look after yourself and look ok.

NurseButtercup · 06/12/2020 11:37

I have definitely heard men discussing male celebrities and pondering on what their regime is.

Dontsayyouloveme · 06/12/2020 11:37

Skin tightening too! Loadsa of celebs get it done! I get it done abd it’s great! Really keeps you looking youthful and fresh without having a facelift!

Ultherapy has some very negative reviews.
Whitney168 · 06/12/2020 11:54

Anyone who has aged this well started with good luck (i.e. good genes) and good discipline. Money obviously helps to put the polish on those, but the first two are the main 'secret'.

Dontsayyouloveme · 06/12/2020 11:58

Othering there are other alternatives to Ultherapy. ☺️

SparklingLime · 06/12/2020 12:01

@othering, my recently arrived jowls are the one thing I want rid of. This is my fantasy solution, but, but... 🤷🏻‍♀️

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/12/2020 12:27

I’ll just leave this here.

cologne4711 · 06/12/2020 12:30

I don't think she'd had cosmetic surgery, she's naturally beautiful and has some help from clever make-up and good lighting.

People who have cosmetic surgery look like they've had cosmetic surgery, they don't look good for their age. She does look good for her age.

CounsellorTroi · 06/12/2020 12:31

The sad thing about women in Tess and Claudia’s Position is that they are simply not allowed to visibly age. The moment they do they will be out. Of course it will be said it’s not because of their age but it will be. This does not apply to male presenters.

Miseryl · 06/12/2020 12:38

She is beautiful but has absolutely no lines or wrinkles. Of course she has had work done.

Gwenhwyfar · 06/12/2020 12:55

@Thefirstnohell

I always wonder if BBC presenters, newsreaders and such like, get an allowance for gym work or have keeping fit and toned written in to their contract. And if they had an 'off' year eating chocolates during lockdown for example, how would the Beeb approach it with them? Would they give you help to get back on track or would it be a case of , unless you lose a stone and tone up within the next six weeks you will have your first official warning. Maybe if you have one of those top jobs, you just take it on yourself to keep yourself fit and 'camera ready' because there are so many potential successors snapping at your heels?

(Must get out more.)

They're paid enough to begin with, aren't they? I don't know how many people in the media have permanent contracts. Otherwise, it would be quite easy for the companies just not to hire them next time.

I presume Huw Edwards lost weight because he wanted to himself though, not like actresses over the years.

I’m 49 - and because l have high cheekbones ( like Tess) l haven’t got sagging yet.
I don’t eat sugar or dairy& work out with heavy kettle bells... which helps too.
I’ve had nothing done at all- so yes it’s possible to not show too many signs at 51.
It’s unusual in the entertainment industry not to however.
She looks great - and l think she still has a ‘girlish’ energy which goes a long way in age trickery! Grin
