'But can you see how that doesn't stand up when people don't believe in 'him'? If I don't believe someone exists, I can't ask 'them' if they do...'
It feels a bit like this:
- I have just had a fabulous piece of cake, tasty AND nutritious
- Thats nice but how can I believe that claim?
- Why not try for yourself, shall I share with you the recipe?
- No because I don't do recipes, its a policy which has served me really well so far and I prefer my way of cooking.
- If you want to try this cake, you'll need the recipe
- But I just told you I don't do them...
If you don't want to even try the cake, thats fine, there are other things to eat which may satisfy you.
If you do want to taste and see, but refuse to even ask for the recipe, you've put yourself in an impossible situation.
If you want to try it but then discover the cake recipe originally came from someone who you've heard makes horrid cakes... then you may have to overcome those preconceptions or you'll never even get started...
For me, I heard about the cake, asked for the recipe and I've been feasting on this delicious, nutritional cake for a while and I'd love to give you a piece so you can share it with me. But I can't. I can tell you where I got the recipe from though... its up to you what you do with it.
I think it says a lot about me that I've made this all about cake
, I'm going to have to make one now.... hmmm, chocolate or lemon drizzle?[/quote]
But recipes aren't an unknown, invisible concept. I would know the recipe was real, so I could look at it and then decide if I wanted to use it.
I don't believe in god. Someone telling me to ask god if he is real therefore doesn't make sense - that was my point.
