Anyone braving the shops tomorrow after lockdown?
Aibu to go on the first day ?
Do you think it's going to be manic

OP posts:
Joeblack066 · 01/12/2020 19:56

@nosswith

I think it will be more 'manic' on Saturday.

As for the person who wants to go to Primark, other better clothing retailers whose supply chain does not lead to deaths are available.

Could you direct me to your evidence of this please?
nicky7654 · 01/12/2020 19:57

@somethinginyoureyes I'm going for a browse. Can't wait !!! Gonna make the most of.it.and relax while choosing bits and pieces to look out for.in the sales in January.

Ragwort · 01/12/2020 20:02

etopp thank you, we have had some fantastic donations thanks to everyone's lockdown clear out Grin.

laudemio · 01/12/2020 20:06

Yanbu, but I won't be going all Christmas shopping done

TimeForLunch · 01/12/2020 20:07

@sofiaaaaaa

Err no, I won't be wearing a face mask whilst drinking the coffee. Would you rather I did? I cannot actually believe people think like this.

sofiaaaaaa · 01/12/2020 20:08

@TimeForLunch I think everyone would rather you kept your mask on whilst visiting a shop. I couldn’t care less about your coffee.

Sootybear · 01/12/2020 20:14

I'm going to go shopping. Working all day means online shopping is a hassle, I'm never in when stuff gets delivered and yes I know about pickup points, but that defeats the purpose. I'm taking a day off work. It'll be great.

TimeForLunch · 01/12/2020 20:14

@sofiaaaaaa so you have deduced from the fact that I am planning on having a coffee whilst out shopping that I will not be wearing a face covering in the shops. To put your mind at rest, I can assure you I will be wearing a mask whilst shopping and have never suggested otherwise.

TheDowagerDuchess · 01/12/2020 20:17

I really need one trip to the shops at some point just to complete my shopping - just one trip to tiger, a card shop and M and S. The rest has been done on line. I’m thinking of braving it on Friday...

Popcornismandatory · 01/12/2020 20:30

I need to do a Lidl shop and go to Pets at Home for cat food and litter.
Not a chance in hell am I going near any 'non essential' stores. If it ain't available online then it ain't getting bought!

Nottherealslimshady · 01/12/2020 20:30

What? No. Dont go to the shops when you dont need to just for the sake of "browsing"

Jesus Christ, I cant believe how many people are just going out for the sake of it. Your face masks and alcohol gel aren't 100% efficient, it's this kind of behaviour that's keeping the rates high. We only needed to follow the rules for a few weeks but instead it's been dragged out and more people have died because "it's open so I'm going".

megletthesecond · 01/12/2020 20:34

@fairyliz yes. I need a second monitor for work so I'm going to pop into a couple of our larger charity shops who sell screens and hopefully bag a cheap small tv. And the dc's need Xmas jumpers and we need a new cereal bowl or two. I'm an excellent charity shopper.

Snog · 01/12/2020 20:37

I've done all of my Xmas shopping online this year as I wasn't confident that shops would open in December.

Now that they are able to reopen I feel guilty for not spending in our local shops, although I would certainly not be willing to queue to get into shops. Our Local economy is crippled. There have been far too strict restrictions in my area where the COVID incidence has been very low throughout.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2020 20:43

if you are going to stand in a queue to get into a shop to have a browse and all the people already in the shop are also having a leisurely browse then you'll need more than a coffee during the wait. Maybe a substantial meal because that queue's not going to be going down too fast.

SomewhereEast · 01/12/2020 21:07

I'm not planning on doing much tomorrow (might nip in for a particular present) but I'll be doing as much shopping as possible in actual shops this December. We have a great town centre and I'm not up for watching it die, especially given we're Tier 3 so our restaurants & cafes are already fucked.

RoseMartha · 01/12/2020 21:16

No.

Christmas shopping done online, and I have no desire to walk through busy shops unless necessary. Ie grocery shopping.

amicissimma · 01/12/2020 21:23

Like PP I'm planning to do as much as I can in our local shops. I've browsed the internet so I know what I want and now just have to find it in physical shops. And there are one or two items that I want to check the exact colour rather than the photos.

But mainly I like my local shops and want to support them and keep people in jobs. Likewise I'll probably get a coffee (and, shock! horror! take my mask off to drink it) to support a local cafe or two.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2020 21:26

I used to love sitting alone in a cafe having a coffee, but even though technically as of tomorrow I can, I don't want to . Which is a shame for local cafes but I am sure a lot of people feel the same.

DressingGownofDoom · 01/12/2020 21:27

It's your choice! I do think though that we should all try really hard to make a big effort through December, what we do now will have a big impact in January when hospitals face the worst of winter pressures. We're so close to the really vulnerable being vaccinated, a last big push could really save quite a lot of lives.

That's how I feel. We've come this far, be a shame to blow it now. We have all the mixing of households for days over Christmas after this too.Sad
Requinblanc · 01/12/2020 21:40

I will go shopping for some essential items. I don't see any problems with that.

BananaPop2020 · 01/12/2020 21:55

@TimeForLunch enjoy every sip of your coffee. I can’t believe some of the sanctimonious types on here, although I don’t know why I am surprised. Has nobody seen that 25,000 people are about to lose their jobs in retail? What about them?

nicky7654 · 01/12/2020 21:57

Your all be moaning when hundreds of shops have gone bankrupt! This will mean job losses and ghost towns!!! The chances of catching Covid is extremely rare and even if you do there's only a very tiny chance of being really ill ! You have.more chance of being laid up with flu. Support the shops/jobs and stop listening to scare mongery!! This tier 3 is an absolute joke .

JaceLancs · 01/12/2020 21:59

I will be going to garden centre and jewellers - can’t imagine they will be packed out
I’ve also got nail and hair appointments booked
Could do to go to tkmaxx but that is to return things I bought pre lockdown before refund period ends - I will go late or early and hope the queues aren’t too bad

EnglishRose1320 · 01/12/2020 22:00

I'm trying to decide whether to go shopping tomorrow, I won't be going into any big shops but we established this weekend that ds2 has shot up again and now only has 1 pair of trousers that aren't ankle biters! So I'd really like to look around the local charity shops for trousers for him and hopefully a christmas jumper as well.

I also want to support a few local shops, I managed to do a click and collect for the local toy shop so that won't be too bad, hopefully fairly quick. Some of the other shops had click and collect options but it was hard to navigate what stock they had so I think I'll need to pop into those to get anything.

Bigger shop wise I'll try and just do click and collect where possible over the next few weeks and only for items I can't get in the smaller shops.
