Yabvvvu as it's just for a browse. Hmm

Legoandloldolls · 01/12/2020 22:16

It's so sad that people are feeling real hatred towards people who want to legally Christmas shop in December.

It's a totally shitty situation and it's pretty incomprehensible that things will ever be how they was pre 2020.

All these things we no longer do out of fear is morphing into the new comfortable. I'm mid forties so I cant see myself vaccinated by April the very earliest if I'm extremely lucky. Flu seesion will be in full swing until end of Feb. Plus I hate Amazon. After 12 months there will be no way I will return to my pre covid spending. No way. I have had to re think how and from where I get the kids clothes. Right now two outfits feels plenty when they have no where to go. Depressing thought.

I cant buy into the "if we all stay in the laws of biology and virology will bend to suit". Only 60-80% immunity will slow the pandemic to background noise

No hatred here.

Just find it astounding that in the middle of a pandemic there's people who don't need anything planning to pour into town centres and shopping centres on the first day they open because they feel like having a bit of a browse.

BananaPop2020 · 01/12/2020 22:22

@LolaSmiles it is also down to boredom and the need for human interaction.

LolaSmiles · 01/12/2020 22:41

BananaPop2020
Because the only way to have human interaction and not be bored is to wander the shops browsing stuff?

As far as people Christmas shopping go then I'm very much live and let live. Rather them than me because I don't like the thought of having to deal with other people getting in my space in busy town centres.
Going out purely to have a browse just because the shops are open seems fairly pointless to me. It's extra people in queues, extra people in towns, longer waits outside for people who actually want to do their christmas shopping because a reasonable minority are just wandering the shop at their leisure because they are bored. More likely than not the browsers will be handsy browsers who need to pick everything up that they see as they meander around the shops they have no intention of buying anything from.

BananaPop2020 · 01/12/2020 22:43

@LolaSmiles sadly yes, for some people.

Inkpaperstars · 01/12/2020 22:48

@formerbabe

Primark near me is apparently going to be open 24hours so I'm planning to nap during the day and go at midnight...I am so excited! Closest thing I've had to a night out...might dress up!
The idea of going to a shop does seem exciting right now, what an outing Grin

Totally agree - especially for elderly people.

LolaSmiles · 01/12/2020 22:49

No local shops? Not a local cafe? Not a single library? The only option for human interaction is to go into busy shopping centres and wander around countless shops with no desire to buy anything? I can see how for a very limited group that might be the case.

We both know that people piling into towns for a browse are unlikely to be in that camp. They're more like 'I've got nothing better to do so I'll wander the shops',regardless of crowds, regardless of the fact their wandering actually prevents genuine shoppers from getting in in a timely fashion.

AdoraBell · 01/12/2020 22:55

I will, we don’t live in a city so it’s not as busy as most areas. We need to do a few errands. If it’s more busy that I expect I’ll come home. DH has an appointment in London on Thursday.

etopp · 01/12/2020 23:00

@Sparklingbrook I was just giving the Right Answer. I have actually been going out every day to slope around the 'essential' shops just because it's better than staying at home. And as I have no money, thanks to two bastarding lockdowns, I couldn't buy anything even if I wanted to.

However, the shops are nice and warm, and they mean I don't have to put my heating on at home because I now can't afford to.

Thanks, lockdowns.

Pipandmum · 01/12/2020 23:03

I am going to get a few Christmas decs at one particular shop tomorrow but will be going down the high street Friday to get a few gifts and support the local shops. I'm in tier one though.

Alicatz66 · 01/12/2020 23:20

I'm
Not going .. I'm at work all day anyway, but I love shopping online , hate the queues ! .. but if you fancy a day out go for it

TimeForLunch · 02/12/2020 06:14

@BananaPop2020 thank you, I will!
Like you say, so many people are losing their jobs and there will be many more. We need to support these businesses and people's livelihoods. Covid is not the only danger out there.

Heatherjayne1972 · 02/12/2020 06:58

No. But I wouldn’t have gone anyway
It’s a working day

Hate Christmas shopping at the best of times Hot crowded shops massive ques for the checkout. Short tempers. Stressed staff. Car park always busy

No thanks

Kazmerelda · 02/12/2020 07:04

Nope, my reasoning is that it will be flooded with people desperate for normal times. I actually want to buy some things from some shops in person but not even going to risk it.

Not being a doom and gloomer I just hope people stay sensible and socially distance!

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2020 09:29

The papers have named today 'Wild Wednesday' Shock Be careful out there. Grin

LightasaBreeze · 02/12/2020 10:17

I shall have a look in our high street today as I'm passing through, it's usually dead but I have a hair appointment this afternoon, yay! I couldn't get in before lockdown.

Bluesheep8 · 02/12/2020 10:34

I don't actually need anything as all my Xmas shopping is done.
It's just for a browse really

Hmm I thought we were all meant to be limiting contact with other people and only go shopping if it's necessary?
Not great for the people for whom it's necessary having to navigate through hordes of people just having a look.

Bluesheep8 · 02/12/2020 10:36

The papers have named today 'Wild Wednesday'Be careful out there.

Herds of wild browsers descending on high streets everywhere

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 02/12/2020 10:37

I’m going to an outdoor shopping centre on Friday to meet a friend for a present swap

IF the shops are not heaving i might pop in one or two

But I’m not queuing (cept in costa...but there is always a bloody queue in costa)

lazyarse123 · 02/12/2020 10:44

@Hiphopopotamus

FFS. Yes you can go shopping - even to browse. One retail manager does not speak for all and browsing often becomes buying. How fecking miserable life is becoming.
I also work in retail, in a small supermarket so can only have so many people in at a time. The number of people having a browse or nattering to someone they haven't seen for a while is ridiculous. We have lost customers who were not willing to wait till Nora decides whether she wants to buy something today or wait till next week. If you don't need anything don't go.
PattyPan · 02/12/2020 10:49

YABU to go just for browsing. Hmm

I bought my Christmas cards in Tesco because I can’t face going into town if it’s going to be really busy.
I hate busy shopping centres at the best of times so pandemic fears on top of that is a nightmare scenario!

Iwantacookie · 02/12/2020 10:57

I went first thing and by the time I left it was getting busy. On the plus side I now only need supermarkets and things to be delivered before xmas now.

Fluffybutter · 02/12/2020 11:03

I am going to lakeside on Saturday as I need to finish my Christmas shopping .
I know it’s going to be hell but I will go early and have an abundance of face masks and hand gel at the ready !
