Someone else’s KNICKERS down the sofa - balance of possibilities?

SuspiciousAboutKnickers · 01/12/2020 10:19

This incident happened a few years ago but DH recently reminded me of it Hmm.

A pair of skimpy black knickers was found by me stuffed down the side of the sofa. I’m pretty thorough on cleaning and regularly wiped down and hoovered down the sides of said (leather) sofa so they couldn’t have been there long. Sofa was quite new and bought new not secondhand.

We’d recently had our DC’s birthday party.

DH’s ‘suggestion’ was that they had dropped out of one of DC’s friend’s mothers handbags while they were sitting there waiting for party to finish. Possibly no more than 10 minutes. Would you not notice that a pair of knickers had fallen out of your handbag while sitting on a sofa though? How much moving around would you have to do to get them wedged down the side of the sofa?

AIBU to think this was very fishy?

I accidentally left a pair of black tights in my driving instructor's car...

These things happen I suppose 🤷‍♀️

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 02/12/2020 19:29

My friend has a cat that brings in random clothes from her neighbours washing basket, she's also had envelopes with money, work man's gloves, a shoe, all sorts.

LovelyIssues · 02/12/2020 19:34

Definitely other women marking her place

madcatladyforever · 02/12/2020 19:36

The obvious answer is nearly always the right answer i.e fairies did not put the knickers there.

lightsoul · 02/12/2020 19:42

I have found a pair of knickers in my pocket when out that I meant to put in the laundry basket I suppose it would be possible for a pair of knickers to fall out of a pocket by a busy mum who forgot they had them there before going out.

Cottagepieandpeas · 02/12/2020 19:46

I’ve had 2 experiences similar to this....you may not believe me, but it’s true.

First time, I found a pair at the end of the bed, on the floor.
He claimed they must have belonged to the previous tenant’s gf. Even though we’d both been living there a number of years. (He turned out to be a compulsive liar).

Second time, a pair of knickers were returned to me by my bf, but they weren’t mine. Oh the hilarity. He claimed they were his daughter’s. Turned out he’d been shagging someone else behind my back.

lilstarr99 · 02/12/2020 19:46

In a previous relationship I found a black miniskirt, a ladies top, suspenders and stockings. My OH at the time, convinced me that they must have been his ex’s that found their way into his possessions - we’d not long moved in together. He was very convincing and I believed him.

He was, of course, lying. Turns out he was a secret transvestite. His ex told me, then when I looked into it (browser history and other stuff), turned out to be true. He was even on dating sites as his alter ego! He denied it to my face. I left him anyway, then his daughter called and told me he’d decided to “come out” a few years later. After calling me a liar and turning his family and some mutual friends against me.

Never trust random underwear or clothes that definitely not yours!

MrsBaboo · 02/12/2020 19:47

My MIL had mystery tights appear in her house once so these things do happen. In my mind the only possibilities for the knicker incident are:
They belong to your husband
There’s another woman
They belong to you and you forgot ( This is my favourite theory)
A trouble maker planted the knickers
It was a sneaky cat
It was a perverted intruder
Accidental loss by a female known to you
They were in the sofa when you bought it
There’s a knicker fairy

Kaia20 · 02/12/2020 19:47

Nope.

NoToast · 02/12/2020 19:54

I used to know a charmer who solicited knickers from women for wanking into.

Emmie12345 · 02/12/2020 19:56

I did drop my knickers on the pavement outside my house last weekend

I only saw them two hours later when I returned from a swim - it can happen !

BlokeNumber9 · 02/12/2020 20:08

Oh it happens. Panties, wrong brand condom wrappers,... it happens.

Merryweather80 · 02/12/2020 20:20

My cat was a knicker thief! He used to bring them home fairly regularly. Her hop up onto the top of the garden fences with them in his mouth. My next-door neighbour caught him in the act once stealing a pair from her laundry rack. I returned those but the many other pairs I had no idea where they came from. He also brought me mine from my laundry rack, from out of the laundry hamper and from a clean washing pile I had put ready to be put away.
He used to steal socks too and take socks off with him - I hope never my knickers but who knows?

He brought home a whole small cooked chicken once, still warm, and a partially thawed joint of beef. He was a bigggggg cat, very loving and liked bringing me gifts.

Initially, when I read your post I thought they were your sisters. I'd ask him as other posters have mentioned by delivering the question as a statement.

I have taken a spare pair out with me on occasion.

Also twice had underwear appear from my trousers. Once a clean pair that had got stuck in my trouser leg from being washed and another time I’d popped home for a quickie on my lunch break and couldn't find the pair I originally had on so as I was at home put on a clean pair thinking I'd look for the others later. No need! They reappeared on my walk back to work 😳.

Emmapeeler2 · 02/12/2020 20:22

The knickers story does sound quite dodgy I'm afraid. It sounds like you were just really shattered at the time and accepted the explanation and blocked it out.

I do also think it's really odd that your DH has brought it up, as though it's funny, and almost deliberately planted the idea that it might have been your sister in your head.

The only time a boyfriend has acted in this way with me was when he was sleeping with someone else and didn't want this fact to make him a complete shit.

Guardup · 02/12/2020 20:27

I haven’t read the whole post but funnily enough I had a similar situation yesterday! I was doing the washing and found a size 8 pair or knickers in my washing!! In a 14. What?!

Turns out my 10 DD wore them after a sleepover AGES ago at my mums, had wet the bed and had to borrow some of my younger sisters knickers in the middle of the night. This has been confirmed by my mum.

For a split second I did doubt my absolute hero of a husband- because obviously I’m on mumsnet and you must trust no one- but in this case it was completely innocent!

CrankyFrankie · 02/12/2020 20:47

I would say there could be an innocent explanation... but the lengths your hubby has gone to to concoct a bonkers 'innocent' theory indicates that he may have something to hide!

AllDressedUpForMyselfOnly · 02/12/2020 20:50

They would be just lying around on the sofa so everyone could see not stuffed down the sofa!Or is the other woman doing it on purpose for you to start doubting your DH.

Isaidnomorecrisps · 02/12/2020 20:52

Hello, so my other half says if you still have them then pop them on and see if DH shows a glimmer of recognition!

InFiveMins · 02/12/2020 20:58

Knickers don't just end up stuffed down the sofa on their own....
A woman was leaving them there hoping/knowing you would find them.

Winifredgoose · 02/12/2020 20:59

I haven't read the whole thread, but to those of you at the beginning who said it was impossible they had fallen out, I have seen this happen.
My soon to be ex sil came to my mum's house to pick up her children. She had a cup of tea, and when she left, we found a racey thong on the seat she had been sitting on.
We guessed it must have fallen out of her handbag.

SweetCruciferous · 02/12/2020 21:09

hotpotlover

Could be OW marking her territory

😂😂😂

mylifestory · 02/12/2020 21:19

If Dh comes up with an excuse like that then he's guilty. If he had just shrugged his shoulders he wd be innocent. Tried and tested method by professionals

Birdcloud · 02/12/2020 21:26

I hate to bring this up, but did you give them a sniff? Had they been ‘worn’??

Darkrainbowsquid · 02/12/2020 21:33

Maybe one of the mums at the party is particularly spiteful and stuffed them down the sofa just to cause trouble?

expatinspain · 02/12/2020 21:39

I really don't understand the left knickers situation, in terms of an affair. Surely you'd notice that you'd left your knickers behind. How does this ever even happen? An earring I could understand, but knickers or bra? Just weird.
