Someone else’s KNICKERS down the sofa - balance of possibilities?

This incident happened a few years ago but DH recently reminded me of it .

A pair of skimpy black knickers was found by me stuffed down the side of the sofa. I’m pretty thorough on cleaning and regularly wiped down and hoovered down the sides of said (leather) sofa so they couldn’t have been there long. Sofa was quite new and bought new not secondhand.

We’d recently had our DC’s birthday party.

DH’s ‘suggestion’ was that they had dropped out of one of DC’s friend’s mothers handbags while they were sitting there waiting for party to finish. Possibly no more than 10 minutes. Would you not notice that a pair of knickers had fallen out of your handbag while sitting on a sofa though? How much moving around would you have to do to get them wedged down the side of the sofa?

AIBU to think this was very fishy?

I once found a size 8-10 thong - not my size, brand or style in the clean washing. We got to the bottom of it. DD10 had brought them home in her bag from a sleepover where they were making a den using 2 x clothes horses as props. I also was a tenant in a house living with a couple and kept finding knickers and bras in the lounge when I got home. We were all looking sideways at each other until the cat trotted in one day with a bra in its mouth.

Of course this is dodgy lol.. if theyre not yours and nobody else you know then why on earth would there be ' sexy' black underwear stuffed into the sofa .. sorry.. hope you resolve this somehow x

No-one ever forgets their knickers. It's the stuff of nightmares. Anyone who loses their knickers does it deliberately to send a message to the person who will find them.

Not true. Well not so much 'forgotten' as 'unable to locate'

Bringing it up now and focusing solely on how wrong you were then if you'd actually believed he'd been unfaithful, could be him gaslighting you. There's a possibility that he thinks something happening now or in the past could come to your attention sometime soon, and he wants you to feel unable to accuse him of any wrongdoing, based on how supposedly wrong you were before. It sounds like he's putting his defence in place, if he foresees trouble on the horizon. You doubting your own judgement now would be very convenient in that case.

Meh, I have found stray knickers loads of times, the drama lamas will call foul, but having lived in shared accommodation and other homes it happens.
Husband lived as a lodger mid week occasionally came home with odd sock or pants that are not his also when he goes home to his Mum. I have had son moaning he has found my underwear trapped in his clothing. I have in the past put pants in my handbag, dirty and clean and yes they are flimsy jobs, so could come out.
The very fact your DH brings it up after years (unless it's been an ongoing row in that time) tells me he is innocent because I bloody wouldn't bring up a subject I felt guilty about years later.
Another thought is that it does tend to be knickers, as even socks are more noticeable and also who is worried about stray socks, but as a dirty stop out as a young women, never lost my pants too expensive and exposing but socks cheap as chips and who will notice as a walk home in my shoes.

Haven’t read the whole thread but unless you have other reason to believe he’s cheating there are two possibilities:

1. Spare knickers is definitely a thing, even if you don’t carry them many of us do.

1. Would they fit him? He might have a kink that you don’t know about.

Whether you would be disgusted by that or embrace it as a harmless fetish would be a matter for you if so. If the latter, you might want to tell him you don’t have a problem with it. He might open up to you.

It's possible for a pair of knickers to fall out of a bag but they certainly cannot stuff themselves down a sofa.

I would say he has either cheated, has a fetish for knickers or likes to wear women's knickers or maybe he is just trying to make you paranoid?? It's a bit strange to bring it up in conversation after a long time.

It is possible to find knickers in odd places with an innocent explanation.
I have occasionally used a pair of knickers from the bedside drawer as a scrunchie at bedtime to tie my hair up quickly to wash my face. (DD always " borrowing my scrunchies")
Very easy then to forget you actually have knickers on your hair ,as you can't see it( back of head)and jump into the car for early school run, drop offs etc.
Twice I have almost gone into public places with thong tying up hair, realised at last minute , thrown knickers on front seat of car and brushed hair quickly and gone into/ school/ supermarket etc.
Knickers get forgotten on front seat then. Have kids ,always pile of junk on front seat.
Have had DH find knickers on front seat, teen DS and narrowly avoided the driving instructor sitting on them!!
The ironic thing is it's always the skimpy sexy thongs diverted as scrunchies, work better than big pants so yes its always the sexy ones found on the front seat !!!
My DH did find it very amusing finding the affair pants on front seat !!!
luckily he has seen the alternative scrunchie use for himself so trusts me!

My cousin found an L-plate down her sofa.

She passed her driving test about 10 years ago.

All kinds of things stuff themselves down the back of my sofa with no provocation. Hence why the first place I now look for keys, wallet and remotes is down the back/sides of my sofa. Especially things that were in my pockets... My sofa has velcro flaps at the back for the easy extraction of stray items...

Most people on here are angry , paranoid and hating ... so it kind of adds up

A thankfully ex friend did this in a house of her lovers knowing the wife would find them. She also left an earing ' accidentally '
