Someone else’s KNICKERS down the sofa - balance of possibilities?

SuspiciousAboutKnickers · 01/12/2020 10:19

This incident happened a few years ago but DH recently reminded me of it Hmm.

A pair of skimpy black knickers was found by me stuffed down the side of the sofa. I’m pretty thorough on cleaning and regularly wiped down and hoovered down the sides of said (leather) sofa so they couldn’t have been there long. Sofa was quite new and bought new not secondhand.

We’d recently had our DC’s birthday party.

DH’s ‘suggestion’ was that they had dropped out of one of DC’s friend’s mothers handbags while they were sitting there waiting for party to finish. Possibly no more than 10 minutes. Would you not notice that a pair of knickers had fallen out of your handbag while sitting on a sofa though? How much moving around would you have to do to get them wedged down the side of the sofa?

AIBU to think this was very fishy?

OP posts:

I once found a pair of knickers on top of a tall filing cabinet during an office move. We never did find the owner but it provided lots of entertaining speculation.

Apantstale · 01/12/2020 19:27

I have totally name changed for this but I have had a pair of my knickers such themselves to husband coat with static, and he didn't realise until he's walked into work with them still stuck in the back, and someone told him.

So things like this do happen occasionally, but it's not the obvious explanation. Though I'd it was suspect I can't see why he'd remind you...

MrsBobDylan · 01/12/2020 19:37

@Apantstale that must have been mortifying and hilarious in equal measure. Thanks for sharing your pain!

VulvaPerson · 01/12/2020 19:47

@RainingBatsAndFrogs

My friend had an ex who had a small collection of previous exes knickers that he used to fiddle with and sniff while wanking.

Obv she did a complete audit of her own knickers before ditching him.

Ugh, the thought of this makes me feel a bit ill, creep..
Audreyseyebrows · 01/12/2020 19:53

Maybe he’s getting some kind of kick out of reminding you.

Susanwouldntlikeit · 01/12/2020 20:02

I think that someone who has shares in MN goes around hiding random knickers in people's houses and cars so that users have something to post about. They probably also shout a people who park in parent and child spaces even though they don't have children.

This happened to me, but they were in the washing basket and stained with semen. I had just moved in with him. It was an affair.

Some possibilities (sorry if already mentioned upthread...

  1. They’re his and he wears them whilst watching porn Shock
  2. Someone is causing trouble and ‘planted’ them there either as a joke or to cause an argument between you and DH
  3. His OW planted them there so that you would find out

Nobody loses their knickers without noticing they have gone missing...

Ellapaella · 01/12/2020 20:39

A few possibilities:
They are your sisters - she bought someone round to shag while she was meant to be babysitting, perhaps they were interrupted and she panicked and shoved them down the side of the sofa.
They are your husbands girlfriends knickers.
You husband has a penchant for buying used knickers off eBay and having a good sniff - he forgot he left them there until you found them.

LaValliere · 01/12/2020 21:07

I wish someone would come and leave mysterious black knickers in my home because all my knickers are knackered. What did you do with them OP? Did you wash them and keep them?

LindyLou2020 · 01/12/2020 21:25

SuspiciousAboutKnickers - this looks familiar......haven't you posted about this before, in recent months/weeks?

BoudiccaD · 02/12/2020 02:35

Was the size of them your sisters size op?

OwlOneAmorFati · 02/12/2020 02:54

@Santaisironingwrappingpaper

Could dh have recently mentioned them to see if you really did fall for his suggestion and he is home and dry so to speak?
I think this

He has duper's delight and his subconscious couldn't resist running it past you.

OwlOneAmorFati · 02/12/2020 03:06

@sadie9

"...she had immediately asked her what she was doing at mine and was I in as she shouldn’t be there if I wasn’t in"

So what you are saying is, your mother for some reason, thought your sister might be going around to your house when you were not there.
WTF was that about? And why is it being referenced in a discussion about a pair of knickers you do not own?

I think this is so relevant. It's like the OP's subconscious asking her if her mother had a bad feeling about her sister being at her house when the OP wasn't there. OP's mother probably dismissed it and forgot about it quickly as well, but in the moment, she found it odd. and now, that is doing a lap of the op's consciousness.
Krispybyname · 02/12/2020 03:16

My KNICKERS once fell off in a club, dodgy elastic, the worst thing is nobody even noticed. I just picked them up and popped them in my handbag.

berrygirlie · 02/12/2020 03:32

Odds aren't stacking up to look good. I think it would be unlikely that someone could lose their pants, stuff them down the sofa and then forget about them. That seems like disorganisation to an extreme.

Did you get things dry cleaned? Could it have wandered into your dry cleaning bag unintentionally? Did you have any overnight guests around the time? Are you absolutely sure they're not yours? (I forget what my pants from my thinner younger days looked like). Have you ever bought an eBay bundle or anything along those lines? Is your sofa new / have you trawled through that bit of the sofa before so they're not pants that have been there for ages?

Sorry sound like a nutter with the Qs, but it's important if you think anything odd is happening. I think if it is a sexually devious situation, it's most likely to be him wanking with them, given he lied about the porn thing.

Sara2000 · 02/12/2020 04:01

Surely the most likely explanation is that they are his.

BeansMeansWines · 02/12/2020 10:11

I’ve twice found knickers (while single). Each time it was friends / flat mate’s hooking up after drunken nights when I wasn’t around or was sleeping.

I’m surprised at how many people leave their scants behind. I’ve had a lot of ONS/drunken fumbles and never left anything and only once had some undies left.

Ariela · 02/12/2020 10:46

@SuspiciousAboutKnickers I think the obvious thing to do now is suddenly remember about the knickers as in :

'Oh I remember now, I had forgotten, but those knickers you mentioned the other day that were found down the side of the sofa, they were actually Sister's knickers weren't they?'

And watch carefully for his reaction.

Jobsharenightmare · 02/12/2020 16:54

^ this is what I would do because a direct question will just get lies

ElvinBoys · 02/12/2020 17:30

Very strange that he would make a big fuss of talking about it, it says to me that he is over the top trying to make you think you were being ridiculous. The very fact that you are having to ask the question and that he lied about the porn says it all surely! The minute I have to question my husband is the minute he’s out the door!

Babymama76 · 02/12/2020 17:41

They could be purposefully left behind..

Nofucksleft · 02/12/2020 17:41

He doesn't sound trustworthy hope it works out for you

yeayea89 · 02/12/2020 17:49

Sorry OP, but he has mentioned it because he hasn’t forgotten.... it has played on his mind all this time and now reminded you of it now so that it sounds like it was false. The fact he hasn’t brushed it off and forgotten about is the fact it’s highly likely he was caught out.
After seeing men who have had affairs from their partners, a lot do this at home.... and the fact you have caught him out on watching porn when he said he doesn’t just shows his insecurities about sex. It’s amazing what men can get up to whilst you have popped to the shop... or even to a play date.
As soon as you have left the house they will have the other woman on their WhatsApp texting them/ calling them....
