Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

Carrie went from short dark curly bob and slightly frumpy jackets to long blonde curls and tutu wardrobe between the pilot episode (1) and episode 2.

Nikhedonia · 04/12/2020 09:37

Oh I didn't even notice! I'm used to her appearance changing so much

Agree wombat she looks completely different in the pilot.
I’m re watching the first series I had forgotten how attractive Big was years ago really handsome that first series.

Atalune · 04/12/2020 10:05

@Sewsosew totally ageee she had terrible dark brown lippy on! I think it was the time of Mac “spice” but even so.....

bibliomania · 04/12/2020 10:06

Controversial opinion - I have a bit of a soft spot for film 2. I like the nightclub scene where they sing "I am woman, hear me roar". [Slinks away in shame]

EachandEveryone · 04/12/2020 11:25

Her make up was typical of the time though, wasnt it when we were sll wearing that Chanel rouge noir or am I getting mixed up? I also had a coat like that (I wish Id kept it) she seemed more alternative at the beginning.

BalthazarImpresario · 04/12/2020 11:52

I liked her look when she was pregnant irl her hair was smooth and shorter and looked really nice I thought

Nikhedonia · 04/12/2020 11:55

I feel like I need to rewatch the pilot (and I only watched it a few days ago! Blush)

The way she stood around and weirdly moved from one foot to the other made me think she was about to pee herself.

Perfect!

Atalune · 04/12/2020 14:56

I loved it for the fashion. I loved their clothes. For me it was the friendships and the drama but very much the clothes. I loved it. And it made me brave about fashion choices.

That was season 5 wasn't it? I thought she looked great in that series, too.

I think she looked incredible in season 6 as well.

Was I alone in finding Mr Big really unattractive? He was just so smug and sleazy. Felt very sleazy politician

Turbotastic · 04/12/2020 21:26

Me too @HazelWong! He looked really sleazy and gross to me, could never understand the appeal for Carrie 😂

I didn't like the way he ate and drank. Very sloppy.

@Nikhedonia not nearly as bad as Miranda eating, and talking with her mouth full. Was this meant to be a cute or quirky character choice? It was disgusting

Oh yes! She loved doing that.

In fact, apart from Charlotte they are all pretty grim eaters.

Carries flicks her tongue about, licks her lips and looks like she is savouring her final meal on death row.

Samantha makes weird sex faces and noises when she's eating and the other girls say something.

As you say Miranda likes talking with her mouth full.

Charlotte is quite a considerate eater.

The second film was especially dire. The film that used the line "Lawrence of my labia" 🤮

FromEden · 05/12/2020 02:20

The outfits to cover up her bump when she was pregnant were ridiculous

I’ve just watched the episode where Big goes to Paris. He’s totally right, if she’s going to Paris she needs to go for herself not for him. Isn’t that exactly the mistake she makes with the Russian.
What would she do but hang around and live off him.
She’s one of those people who have no concept of real life/jobs at all. He obviously doesn’t want to go to Paris and as usually makes it all about her.

I agree that she was a cf expecting Charlotte to bail her out. I thought it would have been better to accept Big's offer, they were good friends by that point.

I don't think she really had that much chemistry with Big and she was awful to Aidan.
I liked her dating the guy with the very open family, the one who's Mum loved her.

I did like her figure and the fact she could run in those heels, when she lost Aidan's dog.

I rewatched it last Summer, there were things in it they couldn't show now.

Yamayo · 06/12/2020 11:30

I think the Russian invited her to Paris because he expected her to have the emotional maturity of an older woman- a writer and people-observer.
Someone who would has the ability to enjoy her own company and not cling to a man in everything she does.

I think the problem with Carrie is that she got more emotionally immature as she got older. When the show started she was quite shrewd and cynical.
As the series progressed (and I suspect this is SJP's direct influence, as seen in that Jonathan Ross interview 😁) she became an emotional sap bleeting about eternal love... ick.

I'm pretty sure I hate-watched the series once and noticed that whenever the 'girls' have their group conversations Carrie always turns it back on her.

Out of the men I also loved Robert. And the Yankee was cute too!
