Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

641 replies

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

@Nikhedonia

I can't find the interview Sad
- I think this is a clip from the interview in question? But it doesn't have THAT moment in it. The fact that so many of us remember how awkward it was, years later, suggests it was a real 'ooooff!' moment (quite pleased other people remember it as I do too!)
PrincessNutNut · 03/12/2020 14:48

@Nikhedonia

Did he get jealous her writing was going well? I just think he was a bit depressed that he wasn't doing well rather than jealous of her success.

Everyone seems to hate Ross but I don't get it at all. I don't remember anything that he did which was that awful

He did struggle with her success but he also owned it and knew he was being an arse.

Ross sent a bloody barbershop group to Rachel at work, singing repetitive lyrics about her having a boyfriend, and went behind her back to her old boss to try to stop her pursuing a new opportunity abroad. He didn't like Ben playing with dolls and they had to fire their brilliant male nanny because Ross couldn't handle it. He dated one of his students, he let Rachel think he'd annulled their marriage when he hadn't and while we all went along with the idea that Emily was a possessive and controlling cow, she wasn't wrong, was she?

@Nikhedonia - re Berger, there was the episode where he bought/hired a motorbike for the press night of Smith's play (back when he was still 'Gerry Gerrod' Grin) and they had that row because he was driving too fast. Carrie said something along the lines of 'I never thought you'd be one of those guys' and he says 'neither did I'.

He couldn't deal with Carrie buying him the fancy designer shirt or generally just doing better than him (then there was the post-it debacle). She was a dick about the scrunchie though.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 03/12/2020 14:53

Robert was gorgeous. I loved him when he was an LA Lawyer too Grin

It was rather nice to see Timothy Olyphant pop up in Season 1 too, although he was yet to reach his peak of physical perfection (Justified)

I still can’t believe he wanted her to put a bloody motorbike helmet over her freshly styled hair! Grin

@Needhelp101

Oh God, Berger was a textbook emotional abuser. And don't even get me started on Petrovski!

I may be slightly over invested in Sex and the City 😁

I genuinely never understood what she saw in Petrovski!

Berger started off a bit shit in all honesty. When he first met Carrie he basically flirted with her and then only dropped in he had a gf after she’d invited him out Hmm

He was jealous of her success and although he knew he was ‘being that guy’ as he put it, it didn’t actually stop him from ‘being that guy’. He still behaved that way.

He never talked to her about how he felt or what was happening in his life, she was supposed to be psychic and know things like his book was failing. He had shitty communication skills and then took it out on Carrie when she inevitably put her foot in it, because she was none the wiser because, he didn’t tell her anything. He was just so cagey about stuff.

And as for the Post-It? Cowards way out. That’s what that was.

I may be over invested too GrinGrin

Deidretheelf · 03/12/2020 16:17

They’re supposed to be imperfect. That’s where the humour is.

Carrie’s flat was rent controlled which is why she could afford to live in Manhattan. Aiden bought it. If she hadn’t bought it back off him she would have had to move far, far away. Doubt she could even afford the Bronx, Brooklyn or Queens. Rent controlled affordable housing is impossible to get nowadays. I’d rather have my best mate around than earrings.

MikeFromSpaced · 03/12/2020 17:00

I loved SATC! I’m watching it from the beginning again on Sky Go. Embarrassing moment - I loved it so much that when I was in Paris years ago, I went for drinks in the Plaza Athenee and bought the hotel’s red umbrella as a souvenir (like the one that Carrie has when she slips in Dior). Blush.

MrsBobBlackadder · 03/12/2020 21:00

Don't forget the episode where David Duchovny appears as Carrie's childhood sweetheart (?) but is currently in a psychiatric facility. That was SUPER random!

As was Jon Bon Jovi's appearance...

XiCi · 03/12/2020 21:07

Another super random episode- when Carrie snogs Alanis Morissette in a game of spin the bottle at a party

Emeraldshamrock · 03/12/2020 21:07

I think I will rewatch it too. I can't be sure it won't depress me thinking of the old days, my life is so boring now. 😴

I must be the only one on here who only started watching SATC because of the Aleksandr Petrofsky character.

As a young girl in the 80's, I was absolutely besotted with Mikhail Baryshnikov. He was gorgeous and such a magnificent and graceful dancer. I had his photos on my wall. 😌

I totally hated that he ended up on SATC and that so many people slate his character and storylines on the show.

There's nothing wrong with a character being unliked. If we liked everyone on TV it would be even less representative of life.

Yes, but it's Baryshnikov!! He deserves our praise and never ending adoration! Lol 😝

Livpool · 03/12/2020 23:11

Robert was SO good looking 😍

Nikhedonia · 04/12/2020 00:04

It wasn't his acting that was poor. I thought he was a very good actor and played the role well.

Rarely bothered to watch the series, apart from the odd moment, as I found Carrie’s character so utterly irritating and unlikeable. There was no genuine spark or credible talent with her pathetic storylines. Her simpering behaviour around dudes was cringing. The way she stood around and weirdly moved from one foot to the other made me think she was about to pee herself. As for the movies, I stopped watching after a few minutes when it was on TV. Certainly, would not have spent good money on going to the cinema for that dross. I cannot stand SJP who gotta be one of the worst actresses out there. I think she made the ‘Carrie’ character even more annoying and neurotic than it already was. The only character I liked was Samantha but that was because I am fond of Kim Cattral. I very much imagine that SJP is one of those sugar-sweet mean gals, all faux sincere but a complete cuntywanker in reality. I actually applauded Kim for being so direct in the aftermath of her brother’s death. It’s a defining moment when you realise that life is too short and your energy too precious to humour shitty people. It probably came from a place of raw anguish but I believe whole-heartedly that SJP is one of those faux ‘sweet’ mean girls. This is Catrall’s Instagram post following her brother’s death and I very much believe that this is just the tip of the iceberg of SJP having bullied her on set.

"My Mom asked me today 'When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?' Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona."

Sewsosew · 04/12/2020 08:18

SJP has a major makeover between episode one and two.

Between episode 1&2 or seasons 1&2?

Charlotte didn't seem to change looks wise at all through the seasons but the other ms changed a lot.

Episode 1 and 2. Her hair is really dark and curly in the first episode and her make up is hideous.
