Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

I don't really understand the appeal of Smith.

I loved Smith when he shaved his head with Samantha. I thought he was great until whichever film it was that spoilt it. Both films are fairly shocking if I remember correctly (has been years)

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 03/12/2020 07:52

@Needhelp101 Harry is lovely!

dayslikethese1 · 03/12/2020 07:54

I just pretend the films don't exist. Agree Carrie is a shit but still love the show. Me and my DSis love hate-watching Carrie.

I loved the first film, watched it again the other week as it happens.

The second however, was not good Sad

BalthazarImpresario · 03/12/2020 08:52

About being understanding about Samantha’s lack of sex drive and giving her the bulbs etc was really sweet. She constantly tried to make it less serious but he was having none of it when it came to their relationship.

Nikhedonia · 03/12/2020 09:43

No, it wasn't. And I hated how ostentatious it was. They didn't need to do all of that Sad

I can't believe no one has mentioned the lovely Robert yet 😍 Miranda missed a trick there...

Iamthewombat · 03/12/2020 09:46

Yes, but he behaved like a complete arse after she dumped him!

I think Robert was meant to be a lesson in true love conquering all. Robert was successful (with a very cool job), wealthy, romantic (the fucking cookie), very good looking etc but Miranda went for Steve because he was her 'true love'.

I would choose Steve over Robert too, I couldn't have someone tell me they loved me on a cookie! ShockWink

I didn’t really see the point of the second film.

The first film had a plot/storyline - it was a continuation of where the tv show had left off so we were basically seeing what had happened in their lives after the events last episodes.

The second film just didn’t feel like there was any real point to it. No real storyline, no premise etc.

Needhelp101 · 03/12/2020 12:26

I'd forgotten Robert! (How?) How Miranda dumped him for that bumbling fool Steve is a mystery.

Harry is wonderful and oddly on rewatching I found him really sexy. I guess I appreciate good character more now (and like bald men 😁)

Nikhedonia · 03/12/2020 12:46

The second film was utterly pointless.

I would have happily married Harry, he was lovely. Aiden was a decent guy, too (before Carrie cheated on him) Eating fried chicken in bed rubbing his belly every Friday night would be great practice for lockdown Grin

In fairness in the second film Big was a pretty decent husband. I'd marry that Big.

Aw I thought Smith was amazing! Berger was the worst bf on the show though by far. Carrie is truly one of TVs most annoying people, but he was just so insecure it was pathetic

Needhelp101 · 03/12/2020 12:58

Oh God, Berger was a textbook emotional abuser. And don't even get me started on Petrovski!

I may be slightly over invested in Sex and the City 😁

Nikhedonia · 03/12/2020 13:00

What was wrong with Berger? I really liked him... I also love Ross from friends, so do I just have terrible taste?!

OP posts:
Needhelp101 · 03/12/2020 13:05

OP, maybe that's also why the series has endured, there's some man for everyone! Grin

Sewsosew · 03/12/2020 13:16

I feel like I’m going to have to watch it all again now...

wimhoffbreather · 03/12/2020 13:26

Berger was so awful - remember when he got all jealous that Carrie’s writing was going well? Pathetic! Couldn’t take a joke either, just overly sensitive

And the post it! Wtf! He was crap Grin

Inwiththenew · 03/12/2020 13:44

Don’t you think if you put them under the microscope, from the outside looking in, a lot of girlie group friendships are like this? There often seems to be a bit of a narcissist in the middle of them.

Emeraldshamrock · 03/12/2020 14:04

I'm afraid so IMO.
Both over sensitive immature insecure men who don't want their partner to succeed. Plus the most annoying is they're sulky childlike attitude.

Have to agree with Emerald! Ross got some super funny moments on the show like the leather pants and spray tan etc, but ultimately he was so jealous and petty when he was with Rachel
PrincessNutNut · 03/12/2020 14:19

Ross is quite a classic example of the trope of a man who treats women horribly and is actually something of an arsehole, but he's presented as a good guy because he's nerdy and it's made out to be comedic.

Nikhedonia · 03/12/2020 14:38

Did he get jealous her writing was going well? I just think he was a bit depressed that he wasn't doing well rather than jealous of her success.

Everyone seems to hate Ross but I don't get it at all. I don't remember anything that he did which was that awful

And if you don't have one in your group, it's because you are the narcissist Grin
