Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

Anthony! So pushy, I loved him when they were wedding dress shopping "She hates it! NEXT!!!"

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/12/2020 15:50

Stanford and Anthony getting married was the stupidest thing ever, that would never have happened.

But it was totally worth it, just to see Liza Minnelli sing All The Single Ladies.

But fully agree - totally mismatched!

@BinkyBoinky

Has anyone seen these spoofs, they are so funny -
Thank you for sharing this, just watched them all and he’s nailed it 😂😂

I've loved this thread
For me Miranda was always the most relatable as she was the only one who felt any pressure around work. I liked the early episode where she stayed a guy who was so tense and desperate to make partnership at his firm. Her life would have been full of men like that.

StartupRepair · 01/12/2020 20:09

*she dated a guy

MarshaBradyo · 01/12/2020 20:11

I just watched the spoof below

I found the Dad more compelling ;
hard times in Covid!

This thread has got me rewatching from Season 1 and I'm really enjoying it. It reminds me of the 90s (I spent a lot of the 90s in NYC which was nothing like the SATC NYC Grin) and I actually don't think they're that bad, including Carrie. A bit young for their ages maybe but Carrie does lots of nice supportive friend stuff too that maybe isn't as noticeable or memorable as the stupid stuff she does.

Ideasplease322 · 01/12/2020 21:26

Carter - I want to hear more about your New York - was it a bit grim?

Or just more ordinary than the movies pretend?

Ah... it's only series 1 though. She has time to become a CF yet Wink

I too was a big Antony fan Grin

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 01/12/2020 21:47

@ideasplease322 It was just a bit more ordinary. Not a tutu or a naked dress in sight Grin. I did still love it though. I never lived there but I visited a lot and had a couple of boyfriends there (not at the same time!)

OP, I just watched the one where Big pointedly doesn't introduce her to his friends and felt really sorry for her. But yes, there's time for her to morph into a monster...

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 01/12/2020 22:38

I loved SATC when it first came out, I was in my early 20s and thought Carrie was so cool.

I think it's really different looking back with grown up eyes!!

But even in my 20s I remember thinking 'what a bitch' when Samantha put on a tiny amount of weight and Carrie was horrified!! Thinking about it now Carrie probably had an eating disorder and deliberately kept herself semi starved.

EachandEveryone · 01/12/2020 22:41

She had a fab figure though.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 01/12/2020 22:41

Was there ever any mention of Carries family? I seem to remember thinking it was odd that she never mentioned her parents or siblings?

The rest of them made some reference to where they came from I think.

Yes, I thought that quite a bit. I feel like Carrie might have mentioned her dad once?

I'm in agreement about everything here. In defence however, they all did follow Miranda to her mum's funeral, even the boys. And Samantha gave Miranda her hair appointment and babysat Brady (when his baby chair broke and she improvised a rocking device 😊). I've struggled to remember much more solidarity around those episodes though, they shunted her off in a taxi- as the baby wasn't welcome at some event or other -didn't they at one point).
Anthony was my favourite too. We still quote 'Chanello' in jest (not that we shop there, obvs).

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 02/12/2020 06:51

Yes Carrie was awful! It really annoyed me in the first film when everyone acted like Big panicking about the big wedding was the worst thing to ever happen but kept badgering Miranda to forgive Steve for sleeping with someone else.

Emeraldshamrock · 02/12/2020 07:32

She did mention her Dad he ran off I remember Miranda saying her Dad was home every evening and she still messed it up with men too.

Emeraldshamrock · 02/12/2020 07:34

Only as Carrie asked Samantha to be more interesting in Miranda and her baby.

NeverRTFT · 02/12/2020 07:34

YANBU. SJP was on Jonathan Ross years ago when the series was out, in the interview he gently broached the fact that Carries was a bit of a CF, and SJP was so unimpressed and went on to defend Carrie like she was... herself. Was a bit of a frosty interview after that exchange if I remember.

XiCi · 02/12/2020 07:45

Funny NeverRTFT, I was just coming on to mention that. JR said that Carrie was hard work & high maintenance and SJP was just so defensive. Like she couldnt believe anyone could think anything negative about Carrie. She was visibly pissed off!

Nikhedonia · 02/12/2020 08:41

This interview has been mentioned quite a few times now... I'm going to see if I can find it.

Whatever her pesonal qualities were, Carrie was always a good friend. Pretty much in every episode they talk about their lives, men, problem, offer advice and support. There were many occasions when her friends confided in Carrie, not others.

Miranda told her she was pregnant, Carrie was with her in the abortion clinic, at birth, she was Brady's god mother.

Carrie was Charlotte's maid of nonour, listened to her confess that Tray couldn't "get it up" and said that if Charlotte wanted to just leave she would help her. Carrie babysat Charlotte's daughter and Brady.

Carrie was the one to whom Samantha showed her red clown bush (lucky her 🙄), who listened to Samantha being "all alone" when she had flu and made her that therapeutic coctail.

There are many, many more.

They can be many things but they were each other's support network at all times and that's what friendship is about.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 02/12/2020 09:32

You can tell I know the series by heart 😄
