Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

@Nikhedonia Yeah you're correct it was the idiot stick figure with no soul and it was Carrie who came up with it Miranda merely was repeating it to Carrie when she called Natasha by her name although that doesn't make it right. What about the time Carrie ran into Natasha in the changing rooms and said she'd attend that women's committee thing and Carrie went out and bought a dress and shoes she couldn't afford then Natasha didn't turn up and at the end she received a note of apology for not being there but wrote it as their and Carrie called Miranda to laugh about Natasha being an idiot. That was so bitchy and nasty Natasha never did a thing to Carrie it was Big who was the arsehole Hmm

@wellhelloyou

I don't live in the UK (but follow UK new etc) and for quite a few posts I thought you were taking about Carrie Symonds Confused Grin

I wondered how all of you knew so much about her personal life!

Hahahahaha brilliant, that's cracked me up!
GlummyMcGlummerson · 01/12/2020 10:05

@HeadNorth

I loved the SATC series at the time - the films were a woeful travesty. One of my favourite episodes is when Charlotte takes Elizabeth Taylor to a dog show and she comes into season. Carrie says something like 'I thought she looked a bit bloated' and Stanford adds 'and she was so bitchy to me backstage'. It was the wee exchanges like this that were so much more fun than Carrie's painful pursuit of Big.
And Anthony "can't you use a teeny tiny tampon?" 😂
Nikhedonia · 01/12/2020 10:05

They were so cruel to Natasha. I don't understand women who gang up on the 'new girlfriend' in solidarity with their friend. What did Natasha do to deserve that vitriol? She fell in love with someone... Sad and then Carrie started shagging her husband... Shock Carrie never respected Natasha's relationship with Big (and neither did Big actually!) I felt awful for Natasha in those episodes.

@Nikhedonia yes and because when Carrie did the whole "booth bitch" thing at the furniture fayre, because Natasha didn't laugh her head off and say 'hilarious' we were meant to believe she's a total cow but she obviously just had the measure of Carrie

Oh yes and she liked 'bullshit beige' furniture, too Hmm Carrie didn't know her but decided she was totally boring. Natasha always seemed like a less neurotic version of Charlotte to me.

It was Big who said that everything in their apartment was beige and it was him that said it's bullshit. I've got to stand up for Carrie on this point!

Blobson · 01/12/2020 10:36

@stampsurprise

Then after those god awful films I didn't watch the series again until about 6 months ago (aged 39).

The funny thing is the characters were well into their 30s too Grin it's not like they were really young. They just didn't mature - especially Carrie.

I think that's why I found it so bemusing as a 39 year old woman because they acted so much younger than their years, particularly CB. As a 21 year old I related to these depictions of 30 something women, yet as a 30 something woman I can't relate to them at all 😂
Charlottejbt · 01/12/2020 10:39

Have you screamed at a squirrel, too? sad

Not yet :) but I wouldn't have gone away with that annoying whiny drip Aidan! He and Carrie briught out the worst in each other.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 01/12/2020 10:42

Yes I thought it was odd that between 4 smart, attractive women in their late 30's not one seemed to have been in a serious relationship. Not so much as lived with a man. Very unusual especially for NYC where expensive housing pushes couples to move in together sooner

vincettenoir · 01/12/2020 10:45

I hate the one where she does a charity catwalk show. She spends half the episode bleating about being worried that the audience will think she believes she’s as attractive as a model. Then when she realises there are other ‘celebrity’ guests appearing that are non models and she throws a wobbly that she is not there to be on a par with the models. It’s very Carrie.

DressingGownofDoom · 01/12/2020 10:56

I looked on amazon to see if I could rewatch and the only SATC available on prime is the second movie. I'm currently revelling in the awfulness. The outfits they wore in Abu Dhabi were so inappropriate Confused

DressingGownofDoom · 01/12/2020 10:57

Although 'Lawrence of my labia!' makes me laugh and cringe at the same time GrinBlush

Yesbutno · 01/12/2020 11:05

Aaaw I know it's crap but I can't help but still love it, despite its failings, even CB. Reminds me of a time when I was young and dating and we did have all those "what do you think he means by that" convos - but I was in my early 20s, not their age!

I've said this before on other threads but I love when it's Carrie's birthday and nobody turns up, then the girls go to the coffee shop and Charlotte suggests they be each other's soulmates and then guys can just be to have fun with, and Samantha reaches for her hand and says "that sounds like a plan" really fondly. There were some really nice moments and I kind of want to rewatch now!

I was referring to the way that she was portrayed in the show. As in Natasha was portrayed as boring for liking beige furniture and that almost made it acceptable for Carrie to shag her husband.

And I'm sure Carrie did say it, something about you can do back to your bullshit beige apartment after Big said he wanted to have an affair with her.

I don't know about that especially from a man perspective. My step brother moved to NY at 30 he is 49 just married 2 years he said he'd settle before 50 to much fun.
There's lots more men than women in NYC.
He was close to deportation he'd over stayed many years Trump scared him it pushed him along

FrancoBranco · 01/12/2020 12:50

Yes, poor Natasha was the real victim. They criticised everything about her, didn't Carrie once say "Nijinsky or whatever her name is" ? Natasha is a perfectly normal name!

Also, does anyone remember the episode where Carrie finds out Big was married before so she engineers a meeting with his ex wife on the premise of pitching her a children's book about cigarettes? She was a crazy stalker, I can't believe Big married her instead of slapping her with a restraining order.

I’m currently re-watching all seasons from scratch and as it happens I watched that episode literally last week.

I thought “How is Big ok with the fact that Carrie went snooping around his ex wife? Any man I know would think that was weird behaviour and would run a mile!”
Blimey, if my DP went snooping around an ex of mine like that, I would run a mile!

The church episode with his mother was on the same week. Where Carrie sees him at the church with his mother and because he doesn’t invite her to attend with them, because it’s a thing for just him and his mother, Carrie basically drags Miranda to the church to spy on Big and his Mom instead.

Nikhedonia · 01/12/2020 13:31

Yes, stalking the mother at church and the ex-wife at work was 🚩🚩🚩

Omg I totally forgot about that! Definitely stalker territory!

I've just rewatched the whole series, it's definitely a guilty pleasure.

And Anthony has all the best lines! "From then on, it's just a sleigh ride into menopause".

On spotting a cute store guard "Chanello!"
"I'm going to shoplift just so he can feel me up" Grin

FrancoBranco · 01/12/2020 15:24

Genuinely, I loved this series back in the day. I wanted to swan around New York in designer clothes with men throwing themselves at me; who wouldn't? But it doesn't stand up to adult scrutiny at all.

I uses to think Miranda was so boring, but in hindsight she was actually the only normal one; I'd like to be her friend in real life. Samantha would be a fun 'night out' friend, but Carrie and Charlotte? No way. Charlotte was obsessed with getting married, so one dimensional, and whenever one of the others was talking about their (real and valid) problems, Carrie would butt in with some 'witty' pun. Your friend is suffering you soulless dick, just eat your scrambled eggs and look sympathetic.

CherryCherries · 01/12/2020 15:25

Oh yes, Antony!

"And Charlotte for gods sake keep your legs closed, no one wants to see the brides beaver...!" 🤣🤣
