Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

@kwiksavenofrillsusername Oh I remember that episode when Carrie's book was reviewed and it said something about men being disposable and Carrie took it as a criticism and became obsessed with the fact Nina Katz was telling people what she did to Aiden.

Actually whenever someone seems to criticise Carrie she immediately overreacts to it and lashes out, after Big left for Paris and she was driving them all nuts talking about Big and how great she was and they told her she needs to see a therapist and she says to Miranda "I know why you see a therapist because you're all in your own head" Shock

Another time she was criticised was her article that she wrote for Vogue and Enid the editor basically told her straight how she missed the point of the article and Carrie ended up getting drunk in the morning at Vogue because she couldn't believe her work was massacred like that! Had that been real life she would have been sacked for unprofessional conduct!

@hadenoughnegativity

Fork in left hand and knife in right is the correct way
Maybe we should start a thread on this. It just might be the case that there is no single "correct" way and that Americans, and my fellow Canadians, do things differently.
Salome61 · 30/11/2020 17:51

Can I please ask what CF means?

BinkyBoinky · 30/11/2020 17:53

Has anyone seen these spoofs, they are so funny -

Ddot · 30/11/2020 17:53

Apparently she is a complete nightmare in real life too. Samantha ( actress who played her )had problems

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 30/11/2020 17:54

Oh yeah the fat shaming.
'I didn't realise how big I'd gotten'
'I say this with love, but how?'
Looks like she's eaten one burger Grin

BinkyBoinky · 30/11/2020 17:56

I should be working but I love this thread Grin

MustardMitt · 30/11/2020 18:13

@Salome61 it means Cheeky Fucker!

Ilikeviognier · 30/11/2020 18:15

It’s funny isn’t it? I absolutely loved it in the 90s, but if i watch it back now as someone in my early 40s I’m definitely a lot more Shock about some of the things she says and does!

Like not having a deposit to buy her own flat as she spent all the money on shoes....

Oh god I'm crying laughing at "Carrie" falling 🤣
browneyes77 · 30/11/2020 18:17

I loved SATC. And I still enjoy it now - have been watching it from scratch again on Sky Comedy.

However, now I’m older watching it, I can totally relate to a lot of the things being said here about Carrie. She was soooo self involved.

Salome61 · 30/11/2020 18:19

Thank you MustardMitt! I'm 63 and my daughter has left home, she normally keeps me up to date!

Blobson · 30/11/2020 18:35

Oh god, yes, OP. Carrie Bradshaw is a really awful character. I absolutely adored SATC when it first aired and as someone in their early 20s at the time I loved CB and wanted to be just like her. In my late 20s I would regularly rewatch the full series and I still liked CB but started appreciating the other characters more than I had done originally. Then after those god awful films I didn't watch the series again until about 6 months ago (aged 39). My god, the show has dated badly. There are so many cringeworthy moments and outdated attitudes.

But the real surprise to me was how awful Carrie is. She really is the worst of the worst. And for someone so self-aware when it comes to other people's (mainly men's) attention she really is very unaware of her own actions and how they affect others.

I couldn't stand her when she hounded Natasha after she destroyed her marriage wanting forgiveness to make herself feel better.

Going through that guy's belongings to find out what was wrong with him was just crazy.

Cheating on Aiden and then after running into him again months down the line, forcing Miranda to go on a friendship date with Aiden and Steve, telling Miranda to take Steve and leave despite knowing Miranda didn't want to be alone with Steve, and then badgering Aiden to get back together with her and refusing to take no for an answer, throwing stones at his windows to get his attention. Eurgh. And then when she gets back with him, not wanting to give him any space in her apartment, not wanting to talk to him when she first gets home, over reacting about the ring and the wedding dress, inviting Big to Aiden's country shack. She's just the worst.

That awful way she eats that involves her tongue coming out really far and curling round and up to lick her top lip. It's so over the top and trying to be sexy.

The fact that she turns every conversation round to her.

The fact that she's a woman in her 30s acting like a woman in her early 20s with her attitudes towards money and spending excessively on clothes. And then expecting Charlotte to bail her out.

When she (woman in her 30s) meets the comic book store guy and goes all girlish with his parents "Yes Mrs Adams, no Mrs Adams" 🤮

The fact that Miranda needed support and help after having Brady and none of her friends would help her out. And CB actually leaving Miranda's apartment when she realised Miranda wasn't able to put 100% attention into CB and her problem because she was trying to feed her baby.

Honestly, I could spend all day listing what I hate about her. Such an unpleasant character.

CharlotteSometimes2020 · 30/11/2020 18:38

My friends and I have discussed this many a time. Carrie is an awful friend.
She is so needy and self entitled!

Nikhedonia · 30/11/2020 18:44

It's terribly dramatic 'over acting'. A bit like when she's thinking and she sticks her tongue on her top lip and dramatically looks up to the left... HmmHmm

...and don't get me started on the conversation with the Russian...

"If for no other reason, then I would like to avoid having this face at restaurant."

...overacts with face

Iamthedevilinthedetail · 30/11/2020 18:53

100% yes. YANBU

Nikhedonia · 30/11/2020 18:55

The thing with Petrovsky made very little sense. Calling him "the Russian" was a bit Hmm and felt like it was only believable that she was with him because she knew he was perceived to be a catch by others

FelicisNox · 30/11/2020 18:58

Totally agree.

She's so selfish and self absorbed. I used to love that show but when I watch it back I'm like WTF?!

Just goes to show, with age comes wisdom.

RedRiverHog · 30/11/2020 19:10

Bloody adore Smith. I don't think he did anything I can complain about? When Sam comes out the elevator after having sex with Richard and he's waiting for her. Love him.

Love Harry too but I totally see why Charlotte was so angry and hurt when he chose to watch baseball after she had prepared the Jewish meal.

LastTangoInBodmin · 30/11/2020 19:10

The whole Paris storyline where she stands up the nice people who want to throw a party in her honour, just to hang around on her own outside an art gallery waiting for Petrovsky when he never asked or expected her to do so!

I think he did ask her, didn't he? And said he needed her there and wouldn't let go of her hand and then fucked off immediately upon entering.

No, I love CB - or rather Sarah J-P in that role.

Yes, she's neurotic and a bit scatterbrain, and not always a perfect friend but they haven't dumped her as a friend so obvs the girls thought the good outweighs the bad. She did have a lot of patience and advice available for the girls.
She's witty and stylish (and then some) and loveable imo.

CatAndHisKit · 30/11/2020 19:31

As for CF-ery, that's New York's entality, they call it confidence and self-promotion (you have to, to succeed there) but as many other things, there are two sides to that coin.
