Carrie Bradshaw - A CF, right?

Nikhedonia · 29/11/2020 20:09

She's a pretty self-obsessed shit friend, but a CF too, right?

I rewatched an episode the other day where she needed to buy her apartment and she expected Charlotte to sell her engagement ring to fund the purchase Shock

I reckon if SATC were real, Miranda or Charlotte would be on MN gushing about their best friend being incredible and everyone would be calling Carrie a CF and advising them to go NC.

I hated that she got with him at the end. That was the most unrealistic bit of all.

I think it made such a mockery out of the whole ending of the series then to have the wedding get cancelled in the first movie!

Nikhedonia · 30/11/2020 15:43

@EachandEveryone

Oh god and going out with a moody bloke who loved Sinatra? That would be me. Maybe I am Carrie😂😂😂😂.

When she said to him "play me" ConfusedGrin

I think Big in reality would have married another Natasha.

I liked the first series, but when it started focusing on Carrie’s (or rather SJP’s) love of shoes/fashion it lost its charm for me.

Agree Harry was the nicest bloke.

I didn’t get the appeal of the writer bloke named Burger (or whatever his name was) and why treat Aiden so badly?

Iamthewombat · 30/11/2020 16:07

That Berger (Birger) was such an arse! Carrie was shallow enough to want to go out with him because he was a Poundland tortured genius and thought that they would be the founders of a cheap version of the Algonquin round table. All because of her massive ego!

Iamthewombat · 30/11/2020 16:08

Harry, Smith (and by the end, Miranda) were the only sensible, functioning adults in the entire series.

Nikhedonia · 30/11/2020 16:08

I quite liked Berger... but I also like Ross from Friends and he is regularly slated.

I loved that scene in the restaurant when he says they're engaged and she throws a fit and then trips down the stairs ("those stairs are very dangerous") - great physical comedy, and I love when they start singing The Way We Were and Samantha says "I miss James" - I know the script by heart!

Yes, that's true. Harry was delightful. I would have married him in a heartbeat, too (but his balls wouldn't be welcome on my cream seats, either)

Ah yes. Smith. He was a good ‘un as well. And fit as fuck.

He was sweet but a bit dim for my liking.

Agreed, not the smartest but was secure and confident in himself and enough of a man to deal with Samantha’s behaviour.

AftonGlen · 30/11/2020 16:29

I still love satc even though I know the characters are seriously flawed, it's a guilty pleasure. I love seeing NYC and that social lifestyle they have which couldn't be further from my life.
I love Steve and Harry, I wasn't keen on Aiden I thought he was a dick as well; most of Carrie's men were.

AftonGlen · 30/11/2020 16:31

I thought Kyle McLachlan's character was hilarious, can't remember his name though was something quite Scottish sounding.

Trey McDougall.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 30/11/2020 16:35

Yeah, Smith had a level of emotional maturity that put Carrie to shame. The cancer, the ‘don’t be a dick and hold my hand’, the way he forgave and understood Samantha shagging Richard at the party. A good egg.

AftonGlen · 30/11/2020 16:36

Was that his name? Doesn't sound very Scottish after all!

EmeraldShamrock · 30/11/2020 16:39

No berger was very insecure and needy if he was down everyone should me.
I don't think Carrie had any decent partners that I can remember.
The ADHD jazz guy was fun.

queenofarles · 30/11/2020 16:42

I hated it, watched it for the clothes , then I rewatched it again a few years later and the clothes were horrible not to mention how someone living in a shoe box can afford all that.

But the Most WTF moment was Carrie crashing Natasha's lunch and asking for her forgiveness, and while walking away and saying something about how her affair with Big placed Natasha back on the dating scene when women in NY are finding it difficult as it is Confused seriously what kind of person thinks like that?

Andylion · 30/11/2020 16:55
Mark Kermode had it covered with his sex and the city 2 review
That review is spot on. Also, it's captioned and in at least one place the caption reads "insects in the city". 😂
Mamette · 30/11/2020 16:55
@flaviaritt I wish I had a pot. I would wear a top two sizes too small

Piss off
Was she talking about being pregnant?

I never understood what the fuck she was talking about.

MarshaBradyo · 30/11/2020 16:56

Not sure I could go back to watching such self absorption. Not after the high entertainment levels Netflix has (watching The Crown atm)

I remember her running in the most impossible heels though and the clothes were good

Nikhedonia · 30/11/2020 16:59
 • Was she talking about being pregnant?

I never understood what the fuck she was talking about.*

I thought she just wanted a pot belly.

Which has reminded me of an incident in SATC - where Samantha puts on about 1lb and Carrie just fat shames her Shock

Ooh or what about leaving Stamford out? She's with him and her friends and says to the group (him included):

"Oh, Hey, you guys want to have drinks with the Russian tomorrow night?" and when he says "Me, too" she says "Oh, sweetie, I'm sorry. It's just the girls this time."

Why?

Arsehole.
