To be amazed they've released Mairead Philpott?

After serving half her sentence for the arson attack? Apparently even a source from the prison was a shocked at the leniency and the fact she's going to get a new identity and protection. Six children in that fire - is there such a thing as justice in this country anymore?

OP posts:
LD22020 · 29/11/2020 17:03

It's awful. Less than 2 years per child.

LD22020 · 29/11/2020 17:04

I don't think she's the sharpest tool in the shed though so imagine she may be useless at preserving her identity

MarylinMonrue · 29/11/2020 17:04

Less than 2 years per child.

God it does really work out that way doesn't it - it's just disgusting.

Strongswans · 29/11/2020 17:04

I hadn't seen that, such a disgrace!

Fromthetopmakeitdrop · 29/11/2020 17:04

Awful. But she has to live with what she has done. I only hope she doesnt go on to meet someone and have a new family. Her poor children.

Nottherealslimshady · 29/11/2020 17:04

She killed her own kids. She should rot in there.

millymollymoomoo · 29/11/2020 17:05

I feel so sad for these children. Let down my the one person supposed to protect them - they never stood a chance
Completely disgusting that she is out, should literally have thrown away the keys
Our criminal justice system is a joke

7Days · 29/11/2020 17:05

Imagine having to live in her head though.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 29/11/2020 17:05

I'm stunned they are releasing her.

I hope she never gets a moments peace in her life.

It takes true evil to murder your own babies and then cover it up like that and try to get sympathy and money for it.

The pair of them are disgusting.

LD22020 · 29/11/2020 17:06

@Fromthetopmakeitdrop Does she really care though?

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 29/11/2020 17:06

I voted YABU. It was clear during the trial that her husband was the one who started the fire, and she covered up for him.

I hope he never gets out.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 29/11/2020 17:09

Just terrible. Wtf is wrong with our judicial system.

Why a new identify? I really don't understand how committing a heinous crime gives you anonymity. It should be up to the convict to change their name by deed poll or whatever it is.

MarylinMonrue · 29/11/2020 17:09

It was clear during the trial that her husband was the one who started the fire, and she covered up for him.

Covering up for him is equally as unforgivable though, no?

OP posts:
Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 29/11/2020 17:11

He's the one that killed those children. Her crime isn't as bad.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 29/11/2020 17:11

She was involved in the planning, also involved in giving sexual favours to someone to help cover up what they did.

Can you imagine giving someone a blowjob so they help cover up the murder of your 6 kids?

I'm shocked anyone thinks the op is BU here.

MarthaWashingtonsFeralTomcat · 29/11/2020 17:12

Mick Philpott orchestrated the whole thing. Mairead was in my opinion abused and worn down over years and years to accept what he said and did and told her to say and do. Many many women sadly do the same, and while she should take some personal responsibility too, mental and emotional abuse is a funny thing. If anyone saw them on the Jeremy Kyle show a few years before the fire, that much was obvious. She lauded him like a king, and had probably never had many positive male role models to compare him too sadly.

I don't think she'd be wise to ever, ever think about going within 20 miles of Derby though. From what I hear, emotions are still really strong locally.

GU24Mum · 29/11/2020 17:12

I remember that case really well.

Has she even served half? I thought from reading that she was sentenced to 17 years in 2013 so half is 8.5 - or does it start from the date of the offence?

SimplyRadishing · 29/11/2020 17:12

Just reading about this and discussing with DH

Absolutely appaulling behaviour from everyone involved. How she stood by that piece of scum... the mind boggles

GetOffYourHighHorse · 29/11/2020 17:14

'Covering up for him is equally as unforgivable though, no?'

Yes it is. I dont care how 'worn down' she was.

blue25 · 29/11/2020 17:14

I believe she has significant learning difficulties and was judged to be incredibly vulnerable. Not an excuse but will have been taken into account when assessing her actual danger to the public.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/11/2020 17:14

Her crime isn't as bad?

She wasn't convicted of lying for him she was convicted of manslaughter

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 29/11/2020 17:17

This.
Hopoindown31 · 29/11/2020 17:17

I presume her sentence included the time she spent on remand that would be from mid-2012.

I think all their sentences were very lenient. I remember at the time think they were very lucky not to have been convicted of murder.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 29/11/2020 17:18

That's my take on it too, MarthaWashingtonsFeralTomcat.

MarthaWashingtonsFeralTomcat · 29/11/2020 17:18

Yes it is. I dont care how 'worn down' she was.

I don't think she was 'worn down'. I think she was abused and groomed.
