It makes me so angry that people are protesting about lockdown... yes its frustrating but it's being done for a reason... to try and prevent as many deaths as there would be without a lockdown... they are selfishly spreading covid and yhe police have to put themselves out there and risk their lifes to stop the gatherings! 😠 What do they think will happen!? That government will say ok- ok you win... go wild, have fun and mingle lets just forget covid now!?.....Does this make anybody else absolutely fuming at the human race!!!?

Weirdly the pubs that I know of, have table only service. Shields up round the tables and you have to book.

Being someone who has worked in the industry and knows people still in it, I have seen that more times than people fighting at the bar to get served.

To be fair, there weren’t throngs at the bar and we were shown to our table. But when I went to order, I had to go and stand at the bar. This was right at the start though. I have seen lots of people standing outside smoking in groups though.

@SunflowerButterfly

"Once vaccines are generally available I'd be happy to see them become mandatory for international travel unless someone is medically exempt."

It's this kind of authoritarianism that really troubles me. Would you extend this to banning the Plague Ridden Unclean Unvaccinated from shops, schools, libraries, businesses, jobs etc too or just block them from getting on planes? What happened to My Body, My Choice?

No, just international travel.
Furries · 29/11/2020 02:15

I’m following the rules/guidelines because I don’t want to put those I love at risk.

I understand the OP’s reasoning behind her question - what do they hope to achieve with these protests? It’s a blooming virus. However, I also fully support the right to protest, so it’s a difficult one to argue for/against.

I will be keeping a very close eye on what the situation is once the vaccines are rolled out and things start to return slowly to the old normal. I fully expect all the emergency laws/restrictions to be removed/restored. If there is no sign of this then I will bow to those who are currently shouting that we are on our way to a totalitarian dictatorship in the UK. In the meantime, I will retain my belief that we are going through a totally and utterly shit GLOBAL situation and that in a year’s time we will be living in a much more positive mindset.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 29/11/2020 02:21

I’m much more disgusted by people who pay lip service to maintaining lockdown but then break the rules to suit themselves. Like my mate who has had all her adult kids over for dinner one by one to admire her new kitchen. Or my SIL who is WFH to protect her high risk child but also has her home hairdresser visit every six weeks.

Part of my body my choice must also be accepting the consequences of any choice you make?
caringcarer · 29/11/2020 02:24

I think people who protest, especially without wearing masks, whilst we are in the grip of a pandemic are morons. The police should fine the lot of them.

Unsure33 · 29/11/2020 02:24

@Sobeyondthehills

So what about Spain Italy Belgium and france , higher death rates per 100000 than uk ?

Is that the fault of the government as well ? Or their rules and lockdowns ? Or the virus?

9 months is 36 weeks of trying to learn about an unknown virus and a huge amount of money was being invested behind the scenes on trying to research new drugs and vaccines.

I am sick to death of the virus being made a political tool .

And false information being thrown around .

Yes mistakes have been made but I suggest some of you go to the nhs thread and see how the nurses and doctors are coping .

Also the lady on here whose father has cancer and has caught covid in hospital.

There are two sides to every story .

And some of you are so blinkered it’s unbelievable.

@Thecobwebsarewinning

No one has said the vaccine will be mandatory so stop speculating.or are you just trying to stir things up ?

Sorry this was meant for @SunflowerButterfly

Famousinlove · 29/11/2020 02:28

Well we're just about to finish our second lockdown and covid hasn't miraculously vanished, how many more lockdowns do you think the government will force us into?

Oregano20 · 29/11/2020 02:29

@SunflowerButterfly, I'm not a dictator, I just want my family and friends to be safe, and shock horror, I actually care about everyone else too, yes even people I will never meet. Imagine that, caring about strangers! Not wanting to see in the news that 600+ people died of covid yesterday.

Not to mention..

Protesting a lockdown... In a lockdown... = Lockdown 3.0. real smart

This government has so much to answer for, I am always the first to say this, but people need to wait until it's safe, and then hold them to account

In my opinion, it's never a good look to be on the opposite side to hard facts and science.

sneakysnoopysniper · 29/11/2020 02:30

Note the heavy police presence. However its perfectly OK for the BLM mob with their fascist style uniforms to protest and the police back off.
If I were not disabled and in my 70s I would be there alongside them. Bojo and his cronies have turned the public into a herd of OCD sheep with their masks, social distancing and handwashing.

As many as they feel like now they know they can and the sheeple will do as they're told. All they've done is created a society with health anxiety.
GurpsAgain · 29/11/2020 02:32

Bojo and his cronies have turned the public into a herd of OCD sheep with their masks, social distancing and handwashing.

So what’s your better suggestion?

OffredOfjune · 29/11/2020 02:36

@BloggersBlog

Ruddy idiots. Look at other countries that have stuck to the rule like NZ and how low their deaths are in proportion.

Pathetic and an embarrassment that people in the UK just cant be told.

But I mainly feel sorry for the policemen and women who have to deal with these jerks

You just cannot compare NZ to us 😂
Krampusnacht · 29/11/2020 02:38

People in their 70s and 80s now lived in a time when illnesses like polio and smallpox existed and affected everyone in a devastating way, not just the old and vulnerable, yet the country wasn't closed down! Healthy people weren't told to stay at home! My mum lived through those times and she's horrified by how the governments around the globe have ground the world to a standstill with lockdowns.

That was not exactly what you said though and certainly what I didn't take from it. Also People still have to stand outside restaurants to have a smoke. That is not just pubs.

I have seen lots of parents standing outside the school gates, yet those are still open, pubs are not responsible for the spikes.

As I said originally to you, it is more than likely something to do with eat out to help out

DerbyshireMama · 29/11/2020 02:44

No, I'm not ar all DIZZGUSTED.

DeeCeeCherry · 29/11/2020 02:44

Not DISGUSTED, no. We live in a democracy. They've a right to protest. The police aren't exactly dropping like flies considering the numerous randoms they come into contact with daily so, what does that tell you?

I don't believe Covid-19 is so lethal as panic-mongers make out. It's just another of the myriad of diseases out there that can and will bring about our deaths, eventually. However I wear a mask, wash hands and distance because it's not all about my beliefs.

We've yet to see the emotional, financial and mental health fallout of all this. Protesters are just expressing worry and concern in their own way.

Embra · 29/11/2020 02:44

I applaud people who are protesting and disgusted by police government and people who want to take away the right to protest.

DeeCeeCherry · 29/11/2020 02:46

sneaky shut up with your sly dig racism. It's not a BLM march so don't try it on.

None of those countries are a fucking island.

I don't need to go to any NHS thread, I can just ring and speak to a shit ton of family members who work in it.

I am not blinkered, I am angry at this government, people who live in other countries can be angry at their governments if they think they have fucked up. But this government have fucked up.

Its political because they are making the decisions, like they do in every part of out life.

Are you honestly telling me that deaths couldn't have been prevented?

I am in no way saying Labour could have done any better. But this is a shit storm and its looking like Johnson is about to make yet another U Turn.

There have been threads upon threads on MNs that show people (at least on MNs) are so confused about the rules, they don't have a clue what to follow other than don't go near people and then Covid is about to take 5 fucking days off over Christmas.

I totally agree with a pp who said we’re not all in this together. If you’re able to work from home and your life has pretty much continued as normal, albeit with seeing fewer people, you are very lucky. Millions of people are really suffering and I can’t judge them for protesting. There has to be some outlet and a way of being heard.
