To take DD home from playground because she wouldn't do her coat up

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 27/11/2020 13:39

DD 3.5yrs refusing to let me do her coat up as she wanted to show everyone in the playground her new dress. (Several people had commented on it on our way in).
After several times telling her that I needed to do her coat up and explaining why (because its cold) and her refusing, I said we were going home (again, explained lots of times we would go home if she wouldnt do her coat up).
DD hysterically crying all the way back to the car and back home.
Am I out of order for taking her home?

Except of course they are, you’re just a coward. Hope it’s not a physical punishment, which I suspect it is. What a bully.

Hmm

You can do it however you like. I will think what I like about it.

What does that face mean?

Consequences are not something you receive. That's called a punishment.
A consequence is getting cold if you don't wear your coat.

I’m perfectly happy with either word.

'At DS's school there are children arriving looking like they are on one of those Lapland holidays.'

That's so funny as at DC's school some of the dc look like they're about to go on their summer holidays with lack of coats and hats and tights on bitter cold days etc but also some overdressed on warmer days. I would never judge and just assume either they wont wear certain things or get cold/hot. All dc and parents are different and that's okay.

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 28/11/2020 13:20

Oh and overuse of wellies on nice dry days but that's another story..

DildoAndAKneeAss · 28/11/2020 13:29

Teaching blind obedience is a good thing? Teaching them they have to do whatever stupid thing a parent tells them to, even if it makes their childhood miserable? Even when they don’t know where the next punishment is coming from? Nobody thinks this. Absolutely nobody thinks obedience regardless of reason is a good thing

At a tangent, but an awful lot of people must think this is a good thing, or they wouldn't have complied with two lockdowns and a massive loss of liberty without protest.

That's not blind obedience - we knew exactly why we were being told to do it.

That’s not blind obedience. There is a reasoning behind it. Blind obedience would be doing it without being given a reason and everyone obeying.

Thehop · 28/11/2020 13:34

Yeah I think you’re being unreasonable sorry. I know it was with good intention. It’s her body, let her choose what to do. “Okay I think it’s freezing. When you’re cold tell me and we’ll do your coat up okay!”

DildoAndAKneeAss · 28/11/2020 13:40

Obviously, there have been people who follow the rules because they have listened and thought and weighed everything up (and might have decided, based on that evidence, that bankruptcy, depression and suicide are a good bet). However, there are an awful lot of batshit people around who have done it "because the government told us to", and who have probably never watched or listened to the news in their lives or read a broadsheet newspaper.

Anyway, I am digressing. I can see why the OP bowed out gracefully about 423 pages ago.

But too much of a coward to admit what those punishments are.

But too much of a coward to admit what those punishments are.

I’m not even slightly a coward. It’s just none of your damned business.

Chloemol · 28/11/2020 14:32

Whilst you gave her a choice, and therefore had to carry out your threat to leave I think you were a bit harsh

She wanted to show off a dress, she had a coat on, if she was running around she would get hot

Harsh in my opinion

Of course you are. The parent whose kid responds immediately to a command word, but too scared to tell everyone how you made her do it.

Yes, my child is well-behaved and responds to instructions. Sue me. And no, I am not scared.

And you punish her when she doesn’t, so now you have 100% compliance to your command word. What are those punishments?
Ireallymustgotobed · 28/11/2020 14:46

Totally unreasonable and not a battle worth having. Children often don’t feel the cold as much as adults. I sometimes don’t wear a coat in the middle of winter if I am walking the dog on a dry day as I get really hot when moving. At 3.5yrs your daughter is old enough to tell you if she is too cold and needs help doing fastenings or adding layers. She is also old enough to know if she is uncomfortably hot and needs to undo them or remove layers.

flaviaritt · 28/11/2020 14:48

You’ll go to your grave not knowing, Pumper.

I already know. It’s illegal in Scotland now, did you know? But you’re obviously ashamed of it, which is why you won’t admit it. Because you’re a bully. And a coward.

Wheresmykimchi · 28/11/2020 15:26

@Pumperthepumper , I disagree with flaviaritt on pretty much everything she posts but given that she thinks masks are child abuse , I doubt she smacks her child.

@flaviaritt, you are being provocative by refusing to answer though.

@Chloemol, you do know the OP agreed she was a bit U about 8 pages ago, don't you, and then very wisely left everyone Pumper and Flaviaritt to slug it out between themselves?
