I love the names Ezra and Ella.
I don’t think they work as a pair though.

If you like the same initial Maybe Ezra and Enid or Ezra and Edith or similar sound better together.

What about Ezra and Aria (joke)

AIMD · 27/11/2020 20:46

I like the Ezra and Stella suggestion

Buddytheelf85 · 27/11/2020 21:30

Are you Jewish? If not, I personally think calling your child Ezra is cultural appropriation. (Yes, I know it’s biblical, and lots of commonly used traditional names like Joshua and Jacob have Jewish origins, but Ezra is very culturally Jewish.)

Also think it will date terribly (if you aren’t Jewish) because it’s very fashionable.

But it’s your baby and I am a random stranger on the internet.

Maireas · 27/11/2020 21:41

Ezra Pound, the writer, was a notorious fascist and antisemite. So it's not always a Jewish name.

midnightstar66 · 27/11/2020 21:46

This is MN, where names like Gertrude and Stanley are often given as serious suggestions, whilst Ella is considered 'out of fashioned'. I'm pretty sure most MNers are living in a different century from reality at times, and not a future one.*

Ella is absolutely not out of fashion. We have 2 in our class of 24 and an Ellie and an Ellen - thank goodness Erin is in the other class. We frequently get the names muddled. I'd avoid Ella for that reason. I don't think Ezra is ridiculous at all these days.

midnightstar66 · 27/11/2020 21:46

Also what's wrong with Stanley?

Maireas · 27/11/2020 21:52

What's wrong with Gertrude?

ShivD · 27/11/2020 21:54

I didn’t vote, they’re both fine but they don’t match in style at all.

ShivD · 27/11/2020 21:56

Just to add my new niece and nephew (twins) have the same initial and I think it’s cute.

ShivD · 27/11/2020 21:58

Last one, we loved Raphaella when I was pregnant with DD with Ella as a potential nickname. I like Ezra and Raphaella together.

Cherrysoup · 27/11/2020 22:01

Ezra? Please don’t do that to a child.

Dipi79 · 27/11/2020 22:08

I'm a twin Mum and I think same initials is twee AF.

cactusdog · 27/11/2020 22:09

I think they go really well together. Both lovely names x

Poppingnostopping · 27/11/2020 22:13

Don't call them similar names. I did and it's a right pain! No-one knows which one you are shouting for...

YoniAndGuy · 27/11/2020 22:40

Guinea pig names.

Just call them Fluffy and Sniffy and be done with it.

Meatshake · 27/11/2020 22:48

Love Ezra. If you want a good Ezra then there's always Ezra Cornell.

I'm going to throw in Ezra and Astrid into the ring 😏

Mishmased · 27/11/2020 23:01

Nice one @Meatshake, Astrid is lovely

DorothyHarris · 28/11/2020 07:33

Another twin Mum, I was advised against names with the same initials. Also have an Isabella-shes almost 7 and I think this was towards the end of the popularity, most Isabellas I know of are older than my DD and I think she might be the only one in her school now. Most little girls seem to have names like Eleanor, Olivia, Erin etc One of my DTs named Matthew is one of 4 in his class of 30 (which was unexpected)...but that's another story 🤣🤣

Eryouwhat · 28/11/2020 07:40

@ViciousJackdaw oh I very much doubt im ‘guaranteeing’ Ezra will be called any such thing to his name or behind his back as you put it....otherwise, the delightful people doing the name calling will have their work cut out for them, there have been literally thousands of Ezras since 2017 (just take a peep at baby name popularity lists of the last few years 😂) so with some many Ezras, that joke would wear pretty thin pretty fast. And be exhausting for them to continue with for so many I think....

They're both going to sound like Eh-eh if you're calling from a distance. And when they start to say their names.

SavoyCabbage · 28/11/2020 09:35

There are loads of Ezras. I don't know why people are so up in arms about it.

Anyway, I don't think they go together particularly well. I think Ella is too boring when paired with Ezra. Ella is a Jack, Oliver, Joshua sort of name.

ILikeStrongTea · 28/11/2020 09:41

I like the name Ezra. I don’t like Ella, it’s probably one of the most dullest girl names out there, and will just get lost in the sea of Ella/Ellie/Isla/Evie/Avas that there are right now. Also don’t like the same letter for twins thing.

DeeandraReynolds · 28/11/2020 09:55

Agree^^.
CallmeAngelina · 28/11/2020 09:58

I've never cared for the practice of giving children (twins or not) names with the same initial. Future issues with post aside, it just seems a bit, I don't know... naff?
It's not as if there aren't a gazillion other names to choose from.

Gombrich479 · 28/11/2020 10:03

They’re a wee bit Dickens...
