Yabu - they’re too close

Yanbu - they’re not too close

Ezra and Ruth, if you want to do the historic Hebrew name thing. Get the similarity in the number of letters rather than the sound.

Maireas · 27/11/2020 07:52

Alloftheboys good one!

YukoandHiro · 27/11/2020 07:56

Same initials same date of birth = massive admin probs in the future (school, post, doctors etc).

YukoandHiro · 27/11/2020 07:58

@CovidClara Ezra a Mormon name?? Have you been living under a rock?

It's really popular where I live. It was on our boys list for our 2017 child who turned out to be a girl - and I was then later glad we dodged it as I met FIVE in our local area at baby groups over the following year

This.

I know adult twins who had loads of issues with having the same initials. Their national insurance number is one digit different so it often looks like fraud when they both applied for things.

liveitwell · 27/11/2020 08:13

I don't get why some twins parents have to alliterate names. My twins are identical boys and we chose completely different names on purpose, they deserve individuality.

Trust me - they'll be forever called 'the twins' people will make such a big deal over them being twins that it's nice in my opinion to give them their own unique names. I'd keep one then choose another that you like thats different.

Eryouwhat · 27/11/2020 13:56

@FlatulentSproutEater ah bless. Thanks for the laugh Grin

@CovidClara poor ezra - are you saying there’s something wrong with being Mormon or Jewish or Christian? Confused also, think the last few years of baby names may have passed you by...

Ezra and Esme

Porridgeoat · 27/11/2020 16:27

Stella and Ezra

FlyingPandas · 27/11/2020 16:49

You could always opt for a longer name for the girl that would give her a different formal initial but could be abbreviated to Ella for family use.

I know of an Isabella who is known as Ella ‘for short’ for example. Gabriella would be another option. It would at least give your twins different initials, a bit of individuality and avoid potential ID problems in the future.

Wheresmykimchi · 27/11/2020 17:11

@AlwaysCheddar

Ezra.... lol, just no.
@CovidClara I have come across many Ezra's. None of them have been the victim of abuse and ridicule as you delightfully put it. Thankfully the people around them aren't as nasty and judgemental as you.
Pumkinseed · 27/11/2020 17:18

Ella is mega common at the moment so stick with Ezra and call the girl something slightly less common

agree. The girl otherwise really picks the short straw in the name game. Ezra is so much nicer and cooler.

Pumkinseed · 27/11/2020 17:19

I would also avoid the same initials for the aforementioned reasons..

clareykb · 27/11/2020 17:21

I like them but as someone with twins bear in mind when they are running off in the park in seperate directions you need names that sound totally different when you shout them and also ideally different. Initials for reasons mentioned already

Eryouwhat · 27/11/2020 17:28

@FlyingPandas funny you should say that - the alternative is to actually call her Isabella with Ella as a nickname!

I have a sister named Elsa (in her 30s) and a brother named Ezra (in his 20s); I thought my parents were bonkers to have two names so close in sound but it's not been a problem. They obviously aren't twins but they are close despite the age difference and shared a hobby that they participated in together when they were younger so we frequently spoke their names in conjunction with each other.

As for all the people saying Ezra is an awful name, my brother loves it and is frequently complimented on having a cool name.

OP, I'd say name your kids what you want.Smile

Pumkinseed · 27/11/2020 17:32

... I'd go with Isabella in that case. Much better combo Smile

Maireas · 27/11/2020 17:38

Please, no more Isabellas! It's a lovely name, but I have about three in every class. Same with Mia. Also Jack, Will and Tom. A few Ezras, not many (secondary school).

YoniAndGuy · 27/11/2020 17:50
  1. Please please please no more Ellas. Or Isabellas.
  1. Ezra is also a bit faddy right now.
  1. Matching twin initials make them sound like they're the guniea pigs, not the kids.
  1. Even if you think matching twin initials are ok, these really are waaaay too matchy, same length, everything- no no no.
EggBobbin · 27/11/2020 17:55

Ezra and Arze would link them as palindromes

PotteringAlong · 27/11/2020 17:55

Don’t give the twins the same initial @Eryouwhat - they will have the same initial, same surname, same address and the same date of birth. Automatic databases might assume that it’s a duplicate and one of them gets missed off. It happens to a friend of mine every time on the electoral roll...!

barnanabas · 27/11/2020 17:56

I have twins. I wouldn't give them the same initial personally for the reasons others have mentioned. When my eldest child started secondary school there were a load of admin problems because there was another J Smith. And the potential for confusion with same date of birth, same initial is considerable. The Isabella/Ella idea works for that though.

Incidentally my oldest child and one of the twins have the same initial, which is quite useful for handing down initialled sports kit etc.

Mishmased · 27/11/2020 17:58

What is wrong with naming a child Ezra? I don't understand the 'hysteria' with the name.

fastwigglylines · 27/11/2020 18:05

Ezra and Isabella are lovely names.
