To think that I can can’t be the only woman that has a huge stock of unused body moisturiser?

I get through face moisturiser in a flash, smelly bath shite gets used, even the dodgy shower gels get their turn but I seem to have a massive backlog of moisturiser ranging from Ballis and Harding up to Jo Malone and none of it gets used.

YANBU. I have never used it. It makes me feel slimy. So do most shower gels. I use real soap and exfoliate with a kessa glove.

Othering · 25/11/2020 07:47
@Othering I shower as normal using shower gel/soap and rinse off. Take a big handful of body lotion and slather over wet skin. Leave for a few seconds and rinse off.

Other good use is as shaving cream in the shower.
That's what I currently do too but a k cloth has been mentioned. I already have a k cloth and specifically wantted to know how that's used in the shower with body lotion.

violetbunny · 25/11/2020 07:51

Can't get my head around this. I use body lotion every single time I bathe. It would feel weird not to use it. I always have at least one backup in the cupboard for when I run out.

Dannydevitoiloveyourart · 25/11/2020 07:58

I’m sure this is the whitest thread in the history of mumsnet Grin.

I don’t know any black person who doesn’t use moisturiser every day and every time they get wet - and in winter only heavy moisturisers like cocoa butter and nivea extra dry will do.

StarCat2020 · 25/11/2020 08:00

I have 2 big drawers full
I am honestly jealous

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 25/11/2020 08:07

I'm another wondering how it works with a korean cloth - do you still get lots of skin off? It just seems like you wouldn't get the same exfoliation with cream on the cloth.

SionnachRua · 25/11/2020 08:07

@DappledThings

Sure you can let it soak in but a light moisturiser can do that under clothes But don't your clothes stick to.your skin if you try to put them on while your skin is all greasy and wet? I don't get it.
Nope, not if you are using a light moisturiser ime. And it's hardly like you'd apply an entire bottle to yourself - thin layer does it, which sinks in almost immediately. You just choose your product according to your needs, Aveeno mist is my go to after a shower.

Now if I'm using a lot of cream at night it might stick, yeah (that's when I use the heavier tubs of cream like Rituals etc) - but that's under PJs so who cares?

PurpleDaisies · 25/11/2020 08:09

I don’t buy it any more and luckily nobody buys it for me. I had a massive glut which I used up over a year and now I have a lovely empty cupboard.

Oblomov20 · 25/11/2020 08:09

Nope. I've never used body lotion. Never been given it either.

SionnachRua · 25/11/2020 08:10
**@SionnachRua* I'm the opposite, I hate scented bath stuff and takes me longer to get through facial moisturizer than it does the body stuff. I love body moisturiser, it always gets used right after a shower (Aveeno after shower mist is fab). I go through rakes of the stuff.*

Aveno Mist is lethal ... no matter how careful I am it goes everywhere and makes the floor slippy (tried in the shower as well as on a towel). It’s a no from me.
I have never experienced this, would love to know how we're apparently using the same product so differently 😂 Horses for courses though. Unfortunately every product doesn't suit every skin.

Roussette · 25/11/2020 08:26

@coldspaghettio
For hands, I cannot recommend Aesop Resurrection hand balm enough. But it isn't cheap, divine smell and really moisturises thoughy. Link here

We must have different skin types on here because I have never felt slimy, cold or greasy. I shower, use body lotion all over (miss my back out) and in the time it takes to dress, it's gone or if it hasn't, I don't notice it at all.
If I use a thicker one, I love the feeling of it still moisturising hours later so maybe it's just a sensory thing for some people

Nefelibata86 · 25/11/2020 08:36

@Dannydevitoiloveyourart hands up here.mixed race and I don’t, though aware creaming is the done thing. I only really get ashy on my shins occasionally otherwise I would do it more. I sometimes wonder if I’m going wrong!

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 25/11/2020 08:40

It’s hand cream that I always get as gifts and never use up.

I get through so much body moisturiser, the child’s farm stuff is magic and soaks in instantly but is still super moisturising, I do my whole body every morning. Cheaper than stuff marketed at adults too!

I’ve got loads of facial moisturiser though because I always have a weird reaction to it, it makes my face clammy and sweaty, but I keep buying it in the hopes that I find one that works because my face is so dry!

DappledThings · 25/11/2020 08:41

You could be on to something here. The idea of that sensation just made my toes curl.

Thecherryontheverytop · 25/11/2020 08:48

@thenewaveragebear1983
I dont get how that would work with k cloths?
I have a long hot shower then k cloth and it gets loads of skin off but with moisturiser how would it work?

Bathroom12345 · 25/11/2020 08:59

Im use it every day and have very soft skin. All sorts from Jo Malone (a jar from the Digital Game when I got it free - when is that coming back??) on special ocassions to Nivea, Vaseline, I also put on some foot lotion. It takes 30 seconds especially as we are working at home.

I dont use huge amounts though every time.

yetanothernamitynamechange · 25/11/2020 09:11

I use it but I make my own (so just nice oils and fats and essential oils). I was considering making extra as gifts this year but reading this thread maybe its best not too...

wink1970 · 25/11/2020 09:12

Donate them to a hygiene bank or woman's shelter.

I bought some supplied for my local HB after a call was put on Facebook (I didn't know there was such a need, I appreciate I am in a bubble) and I asked if she wanted some unopened body stuff, make up and perfume and she nearly snapped my hand off!

Apparently they go into Christmas packs or to women returning to work but struggling with the 'upkeep' that takes.

yetanothernamitynamechange · 25/11/2020 09:22

Also I think some people have drier skin than others and some people have more absorbent skin than others. So what is lovely and luxurious to one person leaves others feeling like an oil slik 4 hours later

CorianderQueen · 25/11/2020 10:58

I have full body eczema so go through a litre of the stuff every month Blush Sadly nine of it nice smells stuff.

I get it though, it's boring to apply

Coffeekisses · 25/11/2020 11:13

coldspaghettio you need Dermol 500 lotion (from a pharmacy). Commercial hand creams just won’t cut it if the skin’s protective barrier is compromised (in fact I’ve reached a point where other moisturisers just make it worse). You can use Dermol as a soap substitute too.

steppemum · 25/11/2020 11:21

I am over 50, and in the summer I use it every day on my legs and arms otherwise I just look like a huge drycrisp.

Never needed to until a few years ago though.

And I remember meeting a young woman, I happened to touch her arm, and was quite startled that her skin was so soft. So much so that I commented. She moisturised every day.

caperplips · 25/11/2020 11:22

@violetbunny I'm the same! I use body lotion after every shower or my skin gets really dry and itchy and sore. Especially on my legs and it drives me mad. I use Aveeno most days, the sensitive one for very dry skin with the pump dispenser.

I wouldn't be keen on cheap ones from 'beauty sets' and I'm not a fan of soap and glory or bayliss and harding products.

I do have a Tom Ford and a Jo Malone body lotion though (gifts for a significant birthday) and I use them sparingly and only on my neck / chest / arms. I wouldn't be slathering them onto my legs!

I have really soft skin with no dry or hard patches including knees, elbows and heels so I'm happy to continue applying it

It takes me about 30 seconds after my shower and I never feel cold, greasy or slimey either!

I always have a backup Aveeno in the cupboard to ensure I don't run out

ememem84 · 25/11/2020 11:26

i always seem to end up with loads - usually when the stuff i like is on special offer (i am a fan of the body shop body butters but they are spendy so tend to buy when they have a deal) then i get given moisturisers for christmas etc. I am slowly working my way through them.

only another 11 to go until i have zero and have to replenish. although Christmas is coming....

CleverCatty · 25/11/2020 11:35

I've got lots of body moisturiser from Bayliss and Harding - almost always regift this to Body Shop Body Butters and other body lotions, body oils etc.

Apart from in summer I generally only use it on legs (calves and shins) after shaving and also under arms. Oh and feet - but that's other cream completely!
