To think that I can can’t be the only woman that has a huge stock of unused body moisturiser?

I get through face moisturiser in a flash, smelly bath shite gets used, even the dodgy shower gels get their turn but I seem to have a massive backlog of moisturiser ranging from Ballis and Harding up to Jo Malone and none of it gets used.

I love them! I have those big pots too. I put it on after a shower every day. My skin would be dry without it. Plus i love the smell!

haircutsRus · 24/11/2020 22:21

I have enough unopened pots of Body Shop body butter to sink the Titanic. Why they have to include it in every single one of their gift sets is beyond me.

QueenPaws · 24/11/2020 22:23

Sanctuary wet skin gel. Amazing. Shower, slap it on while in the shower on wet skin. Towel dry and job done
It's the only one I constantly rebuy and use up

WhataFarce76 · 24/11/2020 22:24

I wonder it its like lip balm eg the more you use the more you fell you HAVE to use. Maybe your skin loses the ability to moisturise itself if you are constantly slapping on body lotion? I read somewhere that people who use lip balm (myself included) have really dry lips without it because they are so used to using it that their lips become super dry without it.
Could be bollocks.
I just can't be arsed with the hassle to be honest. I use sweet almond oil in the bath water so that acts as a moisturiser and I don't have to bother when I get out.

Othering · 24/11/2020 22:24

What's this about using it in the shower with a Korean cloth? This is a new one on me. Can I have a step by step please.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 24/11/2020 22:25

@FredtheFerret, no I don’t ‘grease myself up’ but I do shower, towel dry and then apply moisturiser. It sinks into my skin in minutes and by the time I’m doing my top half, the lotion had been absorbed into my legs and I can get dressed. Not that hard to fathom.

toconclude · 24/11/2020 22:27

I have eczema, very dry skin and allergies. It's running out of lotion that's my problem...

minnie465 · 24/11/2020 22:28

I'm obsessed with body lotions and creams. Don't like cheap overly scented ones though!! slather myself in it every day. I went to get a pedicure once and the beautician commented that I felt like a slippery eel Grin

woodhill · 24/11/2020 22:31

I always use it

Pikachubaby · 24/11/2020 22:32

I love nice body lotions. Not ones with mineral oil, or too heavily perfumed, but yes, I use it every day!

DH gets dry skin too (hard water area, makes it so much worse imo!) , he uses neutral ones/emollient

We have ancient lizard skin, without creams, DH and I Grin

Lockheart · 24/11/2020 23:00

I use it so rarely. Can't be arsed with the faff and I don't get dry skin on my limbs / body.

I do have a handcream for the office (thanks, extremely drying air-conditioning) and I moisturise my face 2 or 3 times a week if it's a little dry.

FredtheFerret · 24/11/2020 23:10

It seems to be a divisive subject! I'm nearly 60 and confess that I wash my face with a wet flannel in a morning and rarely use moisturiser but look reasonable for my age. I had oily skin in my teens so never bothered with moisturiser so the idea of body lotion has passed me by. I just thought in gift sets it was a sort of bulky filler that no one genuinely wanted.😊

CounsellorTroi · 24/11/2020 23:11

I absolutely love L'Occitane body lotions and shower gels/oils. Use them everyday so I do get through them.

CounsellorTroi · 24/11/2020 23:12

I also mix them with a little bit of Oilatum emollient cream for extra moisturising.

BaskingMad · 24/11/2020 23:13

Body butter stash here. Why would someone smear themselves in oily substance, just why?
I use them to fix squeeky door hinges.

OursonGuimauve · 24/11/2020 23:17

They must work better on different skin types, if I use body lotion there'd still be bits of fluff sticking to my itchy, greasy legs an hour later, it just stays on top like a babybel shell. I also hate anything fruit/food/sweet scented on my skin so most of them are out. I do keep a bottle of Nivea about just to sniff though. Love that smell.

DappledThings · 24/11/2020 23:21

Hardly greasing yourself up again is it? Unless you'd also count facial moisturiser as greasing up your face.
Don't use facial moisturiser either. And yes it does seem like making oneself greasy for no reason. Getting dry enough to get dressed is tedious enough without adding in another layer of grease and having to wait around for it to dry enough to put clothes on.

Chailatte20 · 24/11/2020 23:22

Same here, I've just donated 2 carrier bags of unused smelliest to the local homeless shelter. They're all from Christmas/birthday gift sets, I have sensitive skin so can't use them. Find your local refuge/homeless shelter and donate to them.

Badwill · 24/11/2020 23:32

I try to use it as my skin is unbelievably dry but it's just so sticky. Even my husband commented on how sticky my skin was literally HOURS after applying aveeno. So uncomfortable and makes me feel yuck.

starfishmummy · 24/11/2020 23:38

Ita foot lotion round here. From variois gift sets. I use everything else but not foot lotion

popsydoodle4444 · 24/11/2020 23:47

@year5teacher

We go through tons of body yogurts in my house;myself,DD (teen) and DH love it.I've got a secret cache of the zesty lemon one as its now sold out

I don't know how long it takes you to dry yourself or to put on a layer of cream but it's an extremely short amount of time for me. Sure you can let it soak in but a light moisturiser can do that under clothes - even a heavy one is not bad but I'd reserve that for nighttime.

I don't quite see why that's so onerous? I'm not saying others have to do it but imo it's a quick and easy job which brings a bit of joy.

LoveMyKidsAndCats · 25/11/2020 00:04

I have 2 big drawers full

Nivea is hard to beat alright! I'm a fan of the white bottle stuff.
CosyQueen · 25/11/2020 00:33

I never use body lotions but I always get toiletry sets (which is fine as I love shower gel, bubble bath etc) so I usually keep them in a draw in my bathroom, where they gather dust and then I just chuck them away!
