I got deleted from a Facebook group about stupid things men say for commenting that this was an overly large portion, is it not?

Yeah, it's big, but for a 25 year old hod carrier it's not exaggerated

safariboot · 22/11/2020 13:48

I don't know the group, but maybe they regarded it as too close to "fat shaming" or as the kind of comment that provokes eating disorders.

I'd eat the spaghetti and bolognese, but I wouldn't need the bread as well.

StanfordPines · 22/11/2020 13:49

@Eckhart

it’s a Facebook group called ‘Do men ever shut the fuck up'

Why would you want to be in this group at all? Does it not strike you as sexist?

Exactly. That sounds like a dreadful group.
midnightstar66 · 22/11/2020 13:51

Double carbs too .

Since when is this a problem? I don't think I've had a pasta meal in my life without a garlic bread accompaniment. If I was having lasagne or mac and cheese I might even have chips too 😋

OP is standing by it as 'not sexist', because some men are sometimes sexist. Beggars belief. It's like saying chocolate isn't fattening because cheese is fattening.

Same! I'm capable of eating loads and I'm in the middle of the 'healthy' bmi range, never changes.
laudemio · 22/11/2020 14:00

That is an enormous plate of food and it looks like a side dish with it too.
I dont understand why you were deleted though.

HamishDent · 22/11/2020 14:01

It looks like a huge portion of food to me, although it depends on the size of the plate. It’s a good idea never to comment on the type or a out of food people eat though OP. It’s an emotional subject and never ends well.

laudemio · 22/11/2020 14:06

I think your life will be better without this group in it though.

Lilliarna · 22/11/2020 14:09

@BigBlueBow

Im trying to garner OP why you feel the need a) to comment on the FB post about how big the portion is and B)start a thread about how large this randomers portion is. you have come on a second website to state how large a portion it is.

You seem to understand this was an odd and unecessary thing to comment, so why start the thread? Surely you understand why you were banned for this?

Ill comment on your thread as many times as I want.

Op obviously wanted to start a competitive eating thread and slate people that eat more than her so she can feel superior.

So boring and over-done on here Hmm

Standard in my house too and nobody is overweight.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 22/11/2020 14:24

@Covidorcold

Not sure about the portion but anyone who serves spaghetti bolognese like that should be shot... you have to mix it together not dump the meat over dry pasta.
I was thinking this too. My husband likes it slopped on the top like that - cheese on top of the pasta and on top of the meat sauce but I have mine mixed together with a sprinkle of cheese. Looks better too.
Icanseewhyichangednyusername · 22/11/2020 14:25

I'm more concerned it appears to be a carbonara spaghetti with a side of bolognese sauce!

Maybe you were just deleted because your post was tiresome and can conjure up an argument anywhere and everywhere. Some people have this 'gift' and commenting on other people's food is really quite rude.

Perhaps they just don't like you?

LucyfurMorningstar · 22/11/2020 14:48

That image has been posted all over the internet for at least a couple of years, just do a Google image search of it. The uncropped image shows the plate to be fairly small when compared to the fork and wine glass.

Is this not a large portion?
PickAChew · 22/11/2020 14:51

Unless the fork is enormous and that's a large plate, it's a generous but not enormous portion. I'd have less pasta and no bread but more sauce. DH would easily eat it all..

It's certainly not worth passing comment on.

notheragain41 · 22/11/2020 14:55

For me that's huge, for my very fit and healthy husband who does a lot of exercise and has a very mobile job, that is a standard portion.

Runoutofideas45 · 22/11/2020 15:05

It’s a pretty big portion ... I’d expect the salad and bread to fit on the same plate as spag Bol ... that said I shared a house at uni with a 6ft6 rower and his meals were huge

marshmallowkittycat · 22/11/2020 15:06

There isn't a simple answer really. It depends. It looks like a lot of food but if the person who is eating it feels hungry enough to eat it then they should go right ahead.

I'm a fatso and most days that would be too much pasta for me, but food is a very personal thing and arbitrary food rules I feel are more damaging than good.

Are you hungry? Eat it. Full? Leave some.

TheCrowsHaveEyes · 22/11/2020 15:08

Isn't the point of it that you're 'sharing' it with your virtual date so it's supposed to be more than one portion?
But I think 'feminist icons' often join sexist groups where they call men names and comment on food portions ... oh, no, wait. I don't because I'm not an MRA. Hmm

SmudgeButt · 22/11/2020 15:10

It depends on the circumstances.

DH & I were on a walking holiday in the alps a few years back and the mountain hut we stopped at one night served us a massive plate of pasta about 4 or 5 times that in the picture. We ate some of it and then passed the rest to a large family at the next table.

Turns out that the pasta was just the starter and the meat and potatoes and dessert were yet to come. But people walking in the mountains do tend to have bigger appetites.

Nunoftheother · 22/11/2020 15:19

I could easily eat that much spaghetti bolognese (and I'm about 8 stone), but I probably wouldn't have the bread as well.

VivaMiltonKeynes · 22/11/2020 15:24

You would never put out after eating this as your belly would be the size of a small hippo !
