AIBU?

Settle a disagreement: whose food was this?

BunnyMacDougal · 21/11/2020 21:29

Tonight we ordered a takeaway online which DH collected.

His meal came with a side of kimchi. Mine didn’t but I wanted kimchi so added it on as an extra.

DH collected the food and, when we unpacked the bag, there was only one kimchi. It was a fairly small single-serving tub.

Lighthearted and we came to a very reasonable agreement where we shared it but DH is of the opinion that as kimchi came with his meal, the tub we received was for him and therefore he did me a favour by sharing it.

I feel that he should have checked the bag and therefore any error is on him, and I’m the best wife in the world because I shared my kimchi with him.

YABU = kimchi was rightfully DH’s.
YANBU = kimchi was rightfully mine.

Kimchi portions are always way too small so you were being U for not ordering 3 extra.

Only a knob wouldn't share food when both wanted it and only one was delivered. However, with Kimchi only the strongest wins... i never share mine.

@User478

It was yours.
It wasn't missed off the order at all.
He ate his in the car on the way home.

It took SO long for someone to post that! It seems like an awkward thing to eat on the way home, unlike say...spring rolls for example!

It was communal kimchi!

Nope. It was part of his meal. OP ordered here as an extra which didn't arrive.

DH said “I didn’t check the bag so they must have forgotten yours. It’s no problem though, I don’t mind giving you half of mine”

Why would he say 'they must have forgotten YOURS'
...he was very quick to say he didn't mind sharing HIS...

I mean a normal person would just say 'bloidy hell, incompetent fools, we'll just have to share'

He's hiding something!!

Either he forgot to Order it (if he rang it through) or as has been suggested he ate one on the way home.

Have you checked the car this morning??

He had a meal that should have come with it, yours shouldn't, so you taking half of the kimchi that came means that he had less than a full meal. So while it's neither yours nor his, as there's no telling exactly which portion was missed off the order when they read it, it would have been kinder to let him have it because you already had a full meal.

Yes Blush

Also checked last night Blush

Plus I checked the bin just in case there was an extra empty tub in there.

He didn’t ring in the order. I ordered it online. When the restaurant bagged it up, they attached the order print out to the side so you can see that the order went through correctly. They just didn’t put it into the bag.

I think my slight annoyance was how quick he was to say that they forgot MY kimchi, and he’s didn’t mind sharing HIS.

If it was the other way around and o was the one who picked up the order but failed to check it, I’d very much feel the error was due to me and would be insisting that he took the kimchi.

Obviously then we’d share it anyway because, y’know, marriage vows.

Your one got put in the bag which caused them to forget to put his in.

I’ve added kimchi to my online shopping order on the back of this thread.

No one can conclude whose kimchi that was. Your husband’s magnanimity is misplaced.

Well done for sharing, marriage vows remain intact Grin

I don’t know your takeaway so I might be wrong.

But my take away, if you order an extra, it usually is a bigger portion than usual.

So if the pot was quite small, I would say it was the one that came with his meal.

The joint is clearly run by purists who look down their noses at people who would be so gauche as to order kimchi as a side with the dish you ordered.

That's why you didn't get it. So yeah it was his kimchi after all. The End.

Got some kimichi in the cupboard. Might eat it now just in case my husband gets any ideas!

@BunnyMacDougal how big was the pot? Could they have put double in one pot rather than two separate pots?

He did you a favour?Hmm. Sounds like he wants something in return. Not attractive.

She could offer him a BJ.

Trying that after Kimchi should put him off ever wanting something in return for sharing his forever.

(PS, there's also Gochujang, which is chilli and bean paste, in it. Everybody forgets the beans.)

You are all wrong about dh eating in the car.

What happened was that he stopped by OW and gave her YOUR kimchi. This is your proof, you simply need to LTB.

He should have checked but I think it was far more likely they just forgot to add the extra side of kimchi than forgot to add in part of his meal.

We’ve had it loads before when ordering takeaway where a side has been forgotten but never part of a meal.
