AIBU?

Settle a disagreement: whose food was this?

Tonight we ordered a takeaway online which DH collected.

His meal came with a side of kimchi. Mine didn’t but I wanted kimchi so added it on as an extra.

DH collected the food and, when we unpacked the bag, there was only one kimchi. It was a fairly small single-serving tub.

Lighthearted and we came to a very reasonable agreement where we shared it but DH is of the opinion that as kimchi came with his meal, the tub we received was for him and therefore he did me a favour by sharing it.

I feel that he should have checked the bag and therefore any error is on him, and I’m the best wife in the world because I shared my kimchi with him.

YABU = kimchi was rightfully DH’s.
YANBU = kimchi was rightfully mine.

You've eaten everything now, I presume. Why is it still a matter of great importance?

He did you a favour?Hmm. Sounds like he wants something in return. Not attractive.

Oooh I love Kimchi. You were nice to share, it was definitely yours. If there had been two, they were still yours.

I also think he ate his in the car and then suggested you share his as a way of getting extra, plus bonus points for being nice.

I think you need to ring the takeaway and double check all facts before making a decision.

Hi, and as you ordered a lot of food for yourself it was good of him to share.

The kimchi was an integral part of his meal. The chef who designed the menu thought it a necessary side to the dish. The taste experience would have been lesser without it.
You simply added it to a meal that the menu creator didn't feel had to have kimchi with it.

So it was DH's kimchi.

There’s still some in the fridge for breakfast tomorrow. No kimchi though.

And it really isn’t of great importance. Or even insignificant importance. If you actually read my first post you’ll see I even explicitly stated it was a lighthearted topic.

@BunnyMacDougal

it sounds like you had quite a lot already

Do fuck off and stop trying to shame women for eating their dinner.

You have no idea what quantity of food I ate.

Agree. I hate that!

Kimchi is delicious. We’ve got some in the fridge, homemade!🙂

Hi, and as you ordered a lot of food for yourself it was good of him to share.

I literally ordered one meal. It’s a kind of bento that the restaurant do. Two dumplings, two wedges of pancake, a chunk of okonomiyaki, and some rice.

It was £4 cheaper than DH’s larger meal.

So take another fuck off for yourself.

First world problem! Life’s too short to stress over kimchi!

I completely love that the vote is 50-50 split. Brilliant.

(I voted YANBU you’re wonderful for sharing - my DH doesn’t like kimchi so I get it all, all the time.)

Where do you live that you are rural, have to drive 20 mins to get a takeaway, yet you can still get delicious sounding Japanese / Korean food?

Report
Ginandplatonic · 21/11/2020 22:58

Now I feel like kimchi. And all the other yummy things you had.

It was your kimchi on two counts - it was the paid for kimchi AND he should have checked everything was there. Very generous of you to share your condiment with him.

Kimchi is rank - who wants to eat spicy compost? I was early stage pregnant in Korea and fermented vegetables (and aged eggs) still haunt me. You are both unreasonable to eat such rankness.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/11/2020 23:09

The kimchi was yours. Your dh didn’t check. Realistically though I would have shared. God knows how you managed to squabble over one though. I wouldn’t be able to eat half a portion. It’s so spicy.

EllyNC · 21/11/2020 23:16

You say you paid for the kimchi- so it was yours for sure. Agree if you hadn’t, it would be his as would be the free one. They clearly forgot his. Yummmm kimchi!!

I n think they’re more likely to forget to put in an extra dish, than forget to put in part of a dish that always has it. Therefore - his kimchi.

I think this happened: they got his kimchi ready, as they bundled up the mail meal first. Then, they checked the whole order, and had a silly moment glancing up to check for your kimchi and seeing it was already there - but that was actually his.

So - I’m definitely voting his kimchi!
