Tonight we ordered a takeaway online which DH collected.

His meal came with a side of kimchi. Mine didn’t but I wanted kimchi so added it on as an extra.

DH collected the food and, when we unpacked the bag, there was only one kimchi. It was a fairly small single-serving tub.

Lighthearted and we came to a very reasonable agreement where we shared it but DH is of the opinion that as kimchi came with his meal, the tub we received was for him and therefore he did me a favour by sharing it.

I feel that he should have checked the bag and therefore any error is on him, and I’m the best wife in the world because I shared my kimchi with him.

YABU = kimchi was rightfully DH’s.
YANBU = kimchi was rightfully mine.

@switswooo

I don’t think it was either of yours kimchi, but he is the one who made the 40 min round trip, so he gets the kimchi.

I hate checking takeaway food, it’s all stapled up and closed and opening to check it makes it cold. Do you ever make the 20 min trip to the takeaway?

Yes, I often pick up dinner. Or sometimes we go together if we’re out anyway and it makes more sense to drive straight there rather than coming home and heading back out again.

Like, he drove there in a nice comfy car. He wasn’t dispatched on a flea-ridden camel or anything.

I don't think it would have occured to me to do anything other than split it

justthecat · 21/11/2020 22:00

Should of ordered garlic bread instead 😬

WutheredOut · 21/11/2020 22:02

What else did you have - I love Kimchi but never know what to have with it!

TheCanyon · 21/11/2020 22:04

Well who knows whether it was yours or his the take away forgot, so sharing is absolutely the right thing to do. If that was my dh I'd be muttering away that he's an utter twunt Grin

AdaColeman · 21/11/2020 22:07

Since you were charged for it, the kimchi must be yours, so he is lucky that you shared YOUR kimchi with him!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 21/11/2020 22:08

Kimchi for those asking...

BunnyMacDougal · 21/11/2020 22:09

@WutheredOut

Okonomiyaki, scallion pancakes, siu mai, and jasmine rice.

DH had Korean chicken with jasmine rice, it comes with kimchi and a peanut slaw.

It was delicious but definitely needed more kimchi.

Schrödinger's kimchi.

GnomeDePlume · 21/11/2020 22:11

Having read what it is I would pay passing strangers to eat it rather than keep it in the house. Basically sauerkraut.

Nevergoingbackthere · 21/11/2020 22:12

Since it was supposed to be a part of his meal and it sounds like you had quite a lot already I think it's quite mean you made him share the kimchi.

Elsielouise13 · 21/11/2020 22:14

You are BOTH BU. It is the work of the devil. Foul stuff.

CrotchBurn · 21/11/2020 22:18

...you had double his food anyway and then also want to debate whether his kimchi was yours??

slashlover · 21/11/2020 22:20

Dammit @JesusInTheCabbageVan I was just going to post that.

BunnyMacDougal · 21/11/2020 22:20

Do fuck off and stop trying to shame women for eating their dinner.

You have no idea what quantity of food I ate.

And you can fuck off with dinner shaming too.

DH’s meal was much larger than mine.

There should have been teo and there was only one so it was rightfully half each. But if he went to collect and didn't collect it was his fault.

Ontheboardwalk · 21/11/2020 22:27

I had to Google Kimchi sorry it’s sounds rank - fermenting cabbage and carrots in a tangy, spicy sauce

As it was paid for it was yours and he should have checked order

Me too. I fail to understand why you would order something so rank.
ancientgran · 21/11/2020 22:30

I don't think you can say but I voted for you to have it as you had paid for it and his was just an extra. I've never tried it but I don't like the sounds of it so if I'd been there you could have had mine Grin

ancientgran · 21/11/2020 22:33

I hate checking takeaway food, it’s all stapled up and closed and opening to check it makes it cold. Do you ever make the 20 min trip to the takeaway? I just count the items, I've never got the wrong thing but I've had things missing so if it's the right number of items I'm happy with that.

IamAporcupine · 21/11/2020 22:35

It does not matter whether they charge you for the side kimchi or not, that does not make it 'yours'. They made a mistake - there should have been two kinchis and there was only one.
I say it is more likely that they forgot the side order than part of a dish.

Winterwoo · 21/11/2020 22:35

It’s both of yours 50/50 as you are married, if you were to get divorced and include the kimchi in the settlement I think the judge would order you to split it

User478 · 21/11/2020 22:38

It was yours.
It wasn't missed off the order at all.
He ate his in the car on the way home.

BunnyMacDougal · 21/11/2020 22:41

This is why I’d never have kimchi with a man outside of marriage.

It’s more than a piece of cabbage.
