I figured it can't hurt to share here (rather than on local Facebook groups!).

Mine are:
Sainsburys: Mini breaded cambemberts (bloody hell they're good!).
Aldi: Torro Loco red wine, and "extra special" cauliflower cheese
M&S: Dulce de leche truffles

All very healthy as you can see....

Love this kind of thread!

CaveMum · 27/11/2020 09:50

Off for my weekly Aldi shop this morning. Fully expecting to spend more than normal!

Bluesheep8 · 27/11/2020 11:45

@cavemum

I think you should report back! Grin

buckeejit · 27/11/2020 12:05

The Lidl way to go caramelised aloud & seasalt chocolate is immense 😁 now I will have to try the tonys one to compare!

Camomila · 27/11/2020 12:33

Aldi chocolate is great, as are their mini tempura chicken breast fillets. We slice them up and make crispy chicken wraps.

Boring but good for packed lunches - lidl has mini snacking peppers for less than £1 (am always annoyed when I buy them in Sainsbury's for £2.20)

CaveMum · 27/11/2020 13:23

@Bluesheep8 didn’t fund a lot in the end and disappointed not to find the garlic mayo/dip that was mentioned up thread (if anyone has a picture of a pack please post it so I know what to look for!).

However I am pleased to report all the Christmas stuff is out, so I’ve grabbed a couple of the lovely little kilner jars they do of pate which are a Christmas Essential in this house!

Chasingsquirrels · 27/11/2020 13:42

CaveMum I mentioned upthread, but I got some garlic (and periperi) mayo in March, didn't go again for a while as Aldi is near work and I was them working from home, but have been going since the summer and haven't seen it again since. They've had other flavours but not those. Had a good hunt around this week after this thread but none there. Most disappointed as I've just finished the March bottle.

CaveMum · 27/11/2020 14:28

Oh good lord. Chocolate covered honey salt almonds from Aldi. Luscious!

dasey · 27/11/2020 19:09

What toro loco red wine do people buy? I saw there was a few options and wasn't sure if it was the cheaper £5 bottle or the more expensive ones people were raving about.

Whosthebestbabainalltheworld · 27/11/2020 19:12

We blind-tasted M&S Cornish cruncher vs Aldi extra mature cheddar (in the black packaging in Ireland at least) and could not distinguish them. Aldi 1/4 price.

😯😯 I've never seen them they sound heavenly!
EcoCustard · 27/11/2020 19:54

Reading this explains why there is no Toro Loco wine left in my local Aldi, ever. It never used to be this way.

Lidl version of mini magnums. Tasty lovely and never last long. There mint, strawberry chocolate and salted caramel flavour ice creams are very good too.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 27/11/2020 20:02

I thought there wasn't any Toro Loco in my Aldi earlier. Turned, dejected, down the frozen aisle. I promised myself some midget gems as a consolation prize.... but before I got there.... there was an entire stack of it in the aisle! Four feet wide and five feet tall of wine!
Thanks for the recommendation Wine

SlightlyJaded · 27/11/2020 20:24

I've also made a spreadsheet blush and am unreasonably excited about the Aldi Moser Roth chocolate.

My contribution is M&S Almond Biscuits. The ones cut in a sort of fluted circle. They are in a bog standard cheapie looking lime green pack - along with digestives and whatnot but they are NEXT LEVEL butter and almond deliciousness. Noone else seems to do a bog standard almond biscuit. Not even Waitrose.

SlightlyJaded · 27/11/2020 20:25

Not sure why my Blush posted as as a hyperlink Confused

Please don't click. It goes nowhere.....

Henna natural set yoghurt - will last 4 weeks after the ‘use by’ date before it goes off.

Sainsburys own brand paneer is better than Everest / Henna or any Indian brands.

Elmlea buttermilk is basically lassi. You can add whatever ingrediant you want to it - it’s perfect for when you want authentic mango or jeera lassi for just two people.

Channel Islands gold top milk is lush

Greektome · 27/11/2020 20:45

So you use buttermilk instead of yoghurt for your lassi? I just use yoghurt, water and mango puree.
But the strawberry buttermilk at Tesco's is delicious, so I may try your version.

NomDePrune · 27/11/2020 21:42

Lidl Morello Cherry Jam - has just been relabelled but still good with a sourness you don't get in "English" brands.
Lidl Ham and Mustard crisps. The only flavoured crisp I like - better than any other meaty flavour - plus, mustard.

MadameEdam · 27/11/2020 21:56

Morrisons do literally the best burgers I have ever eaten. Not sure of the name, but they are own brand and are made with bone marrow. Bloody gorgeous, mega thick and juicy, and never shrink.

Aldi do a fab Portuguese red wine that I have forgotten the name of (but it's one of the cheaper if not the cheapest Portuguese reds).

Aldi's malted loaf is the business too. Perfect for avocado toast. Their palm oil free peanut butter is also great, and their "healthy" Peanut Brownie Bars in the dried fruits bit.

Lassi is buttermilk. We often use yoghurt in the UK because buttermilk isn’t available. But in India it’s always buttermilk and it tastes divine. Def try it. My fav is almond-pistacio-saffron lassi.

The Belgium buns from co op, very mmmmmmmm and blueberry muffins

MKCH · 28/11/2020 08:44

Has anyone got any amazing finds from a Food Warehouse? One has opened recently near me and I'm planning on heading there this morning...

Al1langdownthecleghole · 28/11/2020 09:30

Iceland bake your own mince pies won best mince pie in a magazine a few years ago and are handy to have in the freezer.

I went a month ago and they had mahoosive deserts, not actually tried them but they look bloody good.

Benjispruce2 · 28/11/2020 10:07

Aldi’s sourdough, their rye bread with sunflower seeds, chicken and mozzarella sausages, Torro Locco red wine, frozen calamari. Love Aldi.
