PPs were asking about US lawyers being disbarred etc if behaving as Giuliani and Powell have dove. Some answers to this question in the Twitter thread from George Conway (disclaimer: Spouse of Kellyanne)

Serious question for the lawyers on my Twitter feed: Is disbarment a possibility for attorneys who pull the kind of stuff that Giuliani and Sidney Powell are doing? @gtconway3d

Has no one in the US made "MAGA" sound like "maggots "yet ?

@DGRossetti

Fun though this all is, I can't help but shake a deja vu from the UKs experience 2017-2019 when - despite no mandate from anyone - we were saddled with Theresa May heading a Tory government that managed to stay intact against all odds for two years.

I know the US has it's constitution and all that. But that didn't stop slavery and caused a civil war. Sometimes you need to actually follow something, rather than fetishising it (see also: "The Bible" - other religious texts are available. Terms and Conditions apply. Your soul may be at risk if you do not keep up repayments. For more details go to our website //www.god.com ...)

Totally confused by this TM comment. Yes, she took over after David Cameron, much like we got Gordon Brown after Tony Blair. Both perfectly legal moves. She called an election - voters could have gotten rid of her then. They didn't. We had yet another election in December 2019, at which time British voters could have ejected Bojo and Co. They didn't. This not remotely similar to what is happening in the US now.

At what stage will PE Bidens team get access to cash and agencies for the transition?

Today is the day that GA will officially certify the election results, by 5 pm EST.

Next up, Michigan & Pennsylvania on Monday, Nov. 23.

Today is Scrotus' meeting with the two senior MI legislators. Scuttlebutt has it that he's going to try to get them to urge other GOP state legislators to 'throw out' the election result and appoint pro-Scrotus electors. According to the linked article below, MI has no such provision in their state law.

What I continue to NOT understand is the state officials who, after stating that their election results are valid and cannot be changed simply because Scrotus lost, continue to pander to Scrotus' ego and insanity. Again, it's like dealing with a stropping toddler; "No dear, you cannot fly if you put on your Superman cape. But you're perfectly welcome to keep throwing my good china up against the wall and smashing it because I won't let you try".

The US constitution didn't 'stop slavery' because it was written into law as legal. It was stated outright that Blacks were not considered fully human. This is the heart of the total irony behind the "We hold these truths to be self-evident, all men are created equal' bumpf.

This is what I heard as well, that the results were being certified today.

If so I am hoping this rules out another recount.

If you had read as much Roman history as I have - especially about the time of Caligula - it might make more sense.

If you don't know what happened to Caligula I won't spoil it Grin. However it's arguably one of the major factors in the US history, if (as I do) you accept that the Roman invasion of Britain is part of a chain of history that leads up to 1776 and beyond.

Thank you for the new thread, @TheNorthWestPawsage. I had so been hoping it would all have been over, bar the transition and the Zoom inauguration, by now Grin But on and on they go. He's not even pretending to be presidential these days. I'm sure the only reason he wants to hang on (apart from hiding the evidence that he had got the GOP to cheat in the same way he is currently accusing the Dems of doing) is that he's afraid he'll go to prison once he's out of office (I'd prefer jail for him than that he be declared insane, @BruceAndNosh).

Didn't Caligula make his horse his heir or something like that?

He seems to be under the impression that HE is a lifetime appointee

He definitely does. That's what happens when a narcissistic megalomaniac gets elected I suppose. The first thing Obama said when interviewed was that most presidents are quite happy that their position in the WH is necessarily temporary.

Has anyone watched the programme with people talking who worked with him in the WH? Trump had hit the roof when it was reported that there were fewer people gathered for his inauguration than Obama had had. So Sean Spicer accused the press of making up lies about how many people were actually there.

The tone of this administration from the very beginning has been to have a completely uncertain grip on reality.

Historical opinion tends to swing between myth and fact.

However, what isn't disputed is that old "little boots" came to a very messy end at the hands of the Praetorian guard. Thus setting them up for centuries of emperor-making, until they got on the losing side with Maxentius and Constantine disbanded them.

The point is while Caligula was in full loon mode, nobody dared say no. And that's probably part of what is holding saner Republicans back. Also, unless and until they perceive a threat to themselves, they have no motive to intercede. After all it's been clear for decades that no one actually gives a shit about the people. If they're suffering and you aren't, why would you ever do anything to change that ?

The horse was already a priest, according to Caligula, and he planned to make it a consul at the same time as declaring himself a god. Elevation to god was supposed only to be posthumous, but he wanted it early or he would move to Egypt and be a living god there so ner. (So they killed him and let him have his way.)

Can they Certify Trump as insane while they're at it?

I'd hope there was some sort of threshold at which it would be applied. Like if he said "let's nuke Iran".

In a way, I think anyone who is a fan of law and order needs to be offering a tiny prayer that he doesn't drop dead before January 20th. A possibility which increases - albeit minutely - every day. Because his whackjob worshippers would never believe it was fate.

An excellent thread on why Trump is doing this...

twitter.com/EdwardNorton/status/1329728889296355328

'The core of it is that he knows he’s in deep, multi-dimensional legal jeopardy & this defines his every action. We’re seeing 1) a tactical delay of the transition to buy time for coverup & evidence suppression 2) above all, a desperate endgame ...which is to create enough chaos & anxiety about peaceful transfer of power, & fear of irreparable damage to the system, that he can cut a Nixon-style deal in exchange for finally conceding. But he doesn’t have the cards'

Worth reading the whole thing.

Considering that one of Trump's main arguments pre election was the Joe is senile line, it is ironic that since November 4th, Biden has been measured and Presidential, and Trump has been totally cuckoo
