To wonder why women in labour have their tops bare stomachs showing

I’m in my early 20’s and few of my contacts on social media have children. I also have a six month old. I’ve recently seen a live video of a woman I went to school with in early labour with her top rolled up so her stomach was showing and also another woman taking pictures of her stomach while in labour with her top rolled up. Is there a reason behind this?

I was boiling in labour so just wanted to be as uncovered as possible

WoodYewBee · 19/11/2020 16:12

monitoring purposes?

Keepinggoing70 · 19/11/2020 16:13

No these are women that are still at home.

So the midwife can see what she is doing without the bottom of the top gwtting in the way. As it’s a bump it’s not comfortable to be half way up the stomach so goes all up before the bump-

Also blood.

They strap the toco thing round your middle to monitor the baby's movements and Doppler for its heart rate.

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 19/11/2020 16:14

I was most comfortable totally naked when I gave birth to my first, I didn’t take pictures but it was about comfort, I couldn’t give a shit what anyone thought?! I don’t think most people care what they look like when they’re trying to push a human out their privates!

Beentherefonethat · 19/11/2020 16:15

You know when you feel like shit so you kind of loosen your trousers, take a jumper off, just need to feel air against your skin.

Keepinggoing70 · 19/11/2020 16:15

These were women that were not yet at hospital.

Why not? Birthing women should do whatever is most comfortable.

HoneyWheeler · 19/11/2020 16:16

I think it is probably because they wanted to.

Autumnblooms · 19/11/2020 16:16

Yes...but they was in labour....it’s normal

flaviaritt · 19/11/2020 16:17

Maybe they feel more comfortable that way.

ZombieAttack · 19/11/2020 16:17

Attention, if they’re posting it on sm.

raffle · 19/11/2020 16:18

If you have a six month old you will know the multiple reasons why this might happen? Have you forgotten your labour already?!

averylongtimeago · 19/11/2020 16:18

Believe me, when you are in labour you don't care. Whatever is most comfortable.

ConorMasonsWife · 19/11/2020 16:18

They wanted to... I was cold in labour so I had a dressing gown on which people think is odd if they ever hear.

MrsMigginsMate · 19/11/2020 16:18

Maybe it's because you can see the contractions as they happen. I could see the muscles tighten up across my stomach and my bump change shape, it was kind of cool to see before it got too painful. Also I guess it's the last image they will have of the baby as a bump, so it's fun to have a before and after shot?

GrumpyHoonMain · 19/11/2020 16:19

It’s probably how the midwife maintains the privacy of her patient while she’s being videoed. Where I lived before midwives in hospital or at home had a policy of not allowing vaginal births to be videoed because there was no way of knowing if women continued to give consent or not.

SendHelp30 · 19/11/2020 16:19

I think @HoneyWheeler got it in one. Why do you care?

BrumBoo · 19/11/2020 16:20

What a weird thing to join MN and ask about.

Ginnymweasley · 19/11/2020 16:22

Towards the end of pregnancy I hated anything tight round my bump. I was also boiling during labour. But in reality who cares what other women do while they are in labour.

GroundAlmonds · 19/11/2020 16:23

Why does it matter?

BettysSpaghetti · 19/11/2020 16:24

Why do you expect everyone to behave the same way as you??

Planty13 · 19/11/2020 16:26

Because it’s comfortable? Why ask!?

OwlBeThere · 19/11/2020 16:26

Because they can? Because they’re hot? Because they’re irritated by the feel of the fabric? Because they’re more comfortable that way? Because they want some bump shots to remember it by?
