To wonder why women in labour have their tops bare stomachs showing

I’m in my early 20’s and few of my contacts on social media have children. I also have a six month old. I’ve recently seen a live video of a woman I went to school with in early labour with her top rolled up so her stomach was showing and also another woman taking pictures of her stomach while in labour with her top rolled up. Is there a reason behind this?

@Autumnblooms

Yes...but they was in labour....it’s normal
exactly - we're not in a country where you may have to cover up or under the Gilead regime like in the Handmaid's Tale - where you'd probably have to give birth and just lift your skirts of your dress... Hmm
Audreyseyebrows · 19/11/2020 16:50

I had all my bits out all over the shop!

Effitall · 19/11/2020 16:52

I could not bare anything touching my bump, but didn’t want my boobs out so t shirt rolled up it was.

ShowOfHands · 19/11/2020 16:53

I am the most prudish person in the world.

During labour, I could not wear clothes. I hated the feeling of them. I also couldn't tolerate noise. I lovingly made a CD for birth and snapped the fucker in half in a rage. I insisted upon utter silence.

PrivateD00r · 19/11/2020 16:54

Lots of women don't want clothing on in labour, sometimes for comfort, sometimes because they are too warm. Strange thing to notice and comment on to be honest. If you are curious enough to ask on here, why didn't you just ask them? Only they will know the exact answer.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 19/11/2020 16:54

Why don't you ask them?

No point asking MN why your mates did something.

I see you are a very new poster though, best be careful or people will think you are one of the weirdos that come on here with various fetishes and try and get women to share stories.

Cocomarine · 19/11/2020 16:55

Isn’t it just obvious? They want to show off the bump in their video, they don’t want to show their tits 🤷🏻‍♀️

sweetkitty · 19/11/2020 16:55

First time I had a T-shirt on but next 3 times I gave birth naked which is very unusual for me as I’m always freezing. Remember with DD2 running upstairs (homebirth) stripping, jumping on bed, legs spread shouting quick examine me you’ve got about 2 minutes to the MW, the dignity of Labour Grin

Never wanted to film any of them though

IamAporcupine · 19/11/2020 16:58

@HoneyWheeler

I think it is probably because they wanted to.
This?
Meepmeeep · 19/11/2020 16:58

You’re friends with them - ask them. Simple.

Whoknowswhenlockdownwillend · 19/11/2020 16:59

Because nothing is private anymore.

TheStripes · 19/11/2020 17:01

I expect they wanted you to have some content to start a thread with so you could make yourself sound superior. 🤷🏻‍♀️

CtrlU · 19/11/2020 17:03

Because they want to

Let me ask a question; why are you so bitter?

HipTightOnions · 19/11/2020 17:03

I had to be naked in labour - couldn’t bear the feeling of clothes. My labours were short though and there was no question of any cameras around!

speakout · 19/11/2020 17:03

They are probably just posing for social media purposes. Labour does turn women into very vain creatures.

I know when I was in labour I was acutely aware of whether I was being photographed from my best side, making sure my lip gloss hadn't smudged, wondering how it was all going to look on instagram.
Dang- was hard to think about anything other than my appearance.

lazylinguist · 19/11/2020 17:04

So if you're well aware that you're a more private person than a lot of other people, why on earth would you be surprised that other people have different attitudes from you to privacy/exposure? What a silly question.

FlushiTheSnowman · 19/11/2020 17:04

Because they wanted to

Inkpaperstars · 19/11/2020 17:05

I can imagine wanting to take off clothing and not have anything feeling restrictive or oppressive. The urge to post to social media during labour is something I don't really get, but fair enough if they want to. I wouldn't understand because I just don't do social media in that way, maybe if someone does it feels more normal to them.

speakout · 19/11/2020 17:06

Many "private" women in the throes of labour wouldn't give a toss if the whole of the Welsh rugby team came into the delivery suite.

VettiyaIruken · 19/11/2020 17:06

When you're pushing a person out of your body you can wear whatever the hell you like however the hell you like!

Labour is very uncomfortable, and hot. Clothes often irritate.

It doesn't matter though. It's only a stomach. 🤷‍♀️

latheritup · 19/11/2020 17:08

I was full blown naked Grin free the bump!

butterpuffed · 19/11/2020 17:21

Sorry but I think it's a really odd question to ask.

Scbchl · 19/11/2020 17:22

Personally once I got to transition stage I had to take EVERYTHING off and wanted nothing touching me. The midwives also listen into the heartbeat or feel the position of the baby so maybe easier to have it up rather than keep lifting it up and down whilst contracting. Surely you could of worked that out?

Strokethefurrywall · 19/11/2020 17:32

Do you have nothing better to think about OP? Women doing something differently to you at the most vulnerable stage of their life?
There was no motivation behind why I labored naked. It was an automatic and involuntary response to pushing a human out of my vagina 🤷🏽‍♀️

DuchenneParent · 19/11/2020 17:33

You can sort of see your stomach tense when your uterus contracts, I kind of wanted to see it. Probably some women want to their stomach to feel free because so much is happening with it. Then later on for monitoring.
