AIBU to wonder why people are putting up their Xmas decorations so early this year?

Is this spurred on by a Facebook movement or are people just randomly putting their trees up in mid November?

Something fun to do with the kids ?
Stress relieving ?
Won't have time after kick down ends ?
Most folk have happy associations with Xmas
Some adults go out of their way to be snobby avoidant twats about Xmas

JaceLancs · 15/11/2020 20:48

I’m looking forward to the huge chocolate advent calendar DS bought to cheer me up

Hoppymclimpy · 15/11/2020 20:49

@Serin
Thank you.... I'm hoping for a quiet, non eventful 2021...littedy win would be nice tho!

MorganKitten · 15/11/2020 20:52

Same as every year

Classicbrunette · 15/11/2020 20:53

I’d be sick of the sight of Christmas decorations by Christmas Day if I put mine up now.

Ballsdeep00 · 15/11/2020 20:55

@Classicbrunette mine outside ones have been up for a week inside going up next week

UndertheCedartree · 15/11/2020 20:56

Why does it matter? If people enjoy it why not?

I personally won't put decs up til 1st December as that is our routine. But I can't wait! It's been a difficult and in many ways boring year so if this cheers people up then I think they should go for it! I enjoy seeing other people's decs when walking around - a few people round here have their outside lights up. If you don't - just don't look - same as FB - scroll on by!

longwigglylines · 15/11/2020 20:57

It's 2020! Normal rules don't apply.

Doryhunky · 15/11/2020 20:57

If any year was the year to put decorations up
Early this is the year!

thenightsky · 15/11/2020 21:01

My local tree shop don't even open until 27th November.

Blonde87 · 15/11/2020 21:06

@Aposterhasnoname a toddler knows its Christmas when the house is full of sparkly shit and lights, and Mummy is slightly pissed dancing round a musty old christmas tree calling Daddy a scumbag and a maggot and a cheap lousy faggot. Merry Christmas you filthy animal 🎄 @Ballsdeep00

Parker231 · 15/11/2020 21:09

A toddler knows it’s Christmas when they wake up Christmas morning to their stocking and piles of presents under the tree.

Lovemusic33 · 15/11/2020 21:15

I want to put some up outside in the next week or so. It’s looking like we may have to isolate for 14 days so I am tempted to put the decs up to cheer us all up. If I’m going to be stuck indoors I want something pretty to look at.

Russianslice · 15/11/2020 21:15

Mine went up today. We’ve had an awful year, I’m working night shifts over Christmas, so we are having Christmas Day early this year and I was just in a festive mood today.

Blonde87 · 15/11/2020 21:16

@Parker231 true 💕 I'm too excited for it this year, so I've gone overboard and put my tree up too early. At least it disguises some of the dust in my house 😂 I think a lot of people will be like me and be filling their houses with plastic tat and glitter and booze and spoiling their kids rotten this year to make up for the shite year we've all had xx

Cantdothis78 · 15/11/2020 21:23

It’s to cheer things up, I’ll probably do it in a couple of weeks.
But yes, WHY was there no (or not many) Halloween bits this year? 🤷🏻‍♀️All Christmas at the time of Halloween

UndertheCedartree · 15/11/2020 21:25

@Hoppymclimpy - you really have had an awful time.Enjoy your decorations! Star

Trixie18 · 15/11/2020 21:26

I think people are bored 🤣

ThistleWitch · 15/11/2020 21:26

@MirandaMarple

My Mum tears her decs down on Boxing Day saying she is 'sick of the sight of them' I just can't fathom that? They're so pretty.
I'm with her!

I've had enough after 2 to 3 weeks, christ if I put them up now, they'd be down by Dec 1st - fucking ridiculous

WanderingMilly · 15/11/2020 21:27

Went a walk this afternoon and saw loads of houses with Christmas trees in the window or lights strung around the front. Definitely more and much earlier than usual.
But I think it's because everyone thinks it's been a shit year and they want something nice for a change; in fact, there was something on the TV a couple of nights ago to the same effect, and I think everyone is following suit now....

GG999 · 15/11/2020 21:33

Everything else in life sucks night now and decorating was a way to make us happy :)

EmeraldShamrock · 15/11/2020 21:38

I take mine down on new years eve.
I'm excited after RTT decorations will go up the weekend early this year but feck it.

Lily193 · 15/11/2020 21:39

We have our outdoor lights on and it's lovely seeing them in the trees as we're walking back through the fields after late walks with the dogs. However, thanksgiving is a big celebration in our home so we'll be leaving our autumnal decorations up until the end of November as usual.

katienana · 15/11/2020 21:46

I'm planning on last weekend of November because that's the last weekend of lockdown. So it makes sense to do something in the house and then we can go out in December.

MrsP1991 · 15/11/2020 22:00

We put ours up this weekend.

Christmas decs are often rushed up in our house around our hectic lives... this year is the first year we've been able to take our time and do it over the weekend.

I loved it- even got a whole new colour scheme!
