Positive Covid test but we have no food in!

ViralVera · 15/11/2020 00:15

I got a text at 10pm tonight to say the DS is positive for CV. He hasn’t really had symptoms but THREE members at his SN college tested positive earlier this week so he was sent home to isolate and I wanted to make sure as DH is a keyworker. I really didn’t think it would be positive.

I’m bloody furious that staff have passed it onto vulnerable students. DS is classed as CEV so has been taught to be very good with hygiene but the staff haven’t been wearing masks, and didn’t seem to adhering to 2m social distancing at his induction session, but that’s another thread.

This means the whole household needs to isolate from now obviously but we are a family of 6 (adults) and get through a LOT of food so I shop every 2/3 days. The next big shop was due to be tomorrow!

The earliest online delivery I can get is for Wednesday and we literally only have milk, eggs, chips, meat and rice/pasta but not enough for 4 days. No squash/bread/cereal/yoghurts/fruit/veg etc.

There is literally no one local we can ask. DH’s brother lives an hour away but his family also has Covid (not from us as we haven’t seen them for months).

It’ll be a lot of shopping for a volunteer to get, if I can find one.

I’ve booked the other 5 of us for a drive in tests tomorrow so I was thinking about me and DH double masking and scooting round Tesco chucking stuff in trolleys as quickly as possible straight afterwards.

Should we? If we have it tomorrow, we had it today too!

You don't know it's from staff. It could come from anywhere!
And you absolutely cannot go scooting around Tesco! That's the reason we are all in this situation- because people haven't followed the rules!
You can manage 4 days even if you need to order in. A volunteer doesn't need to do the big shop just some essentials.
Please don't put others at risk.

Poppystars · 15/11/2020 12:30

Testing is one person briefly opening a car window, not 2 adults going shopping.

elfycat · 15/11/2020 12:32

I've not caught up the last couple of pages but I saw that you have Amazon Prime. I just now placed an order for Morrisons via the Amazon website. It will be delivered later today (between 4-6 pm) as I wanted to give it a go as a potential back up.

You may be able to get a delivery today if you get straight onto it.

There are some limitations. I wanted carrots and could only have pre-cut batons, cute little ones or organic, rather than jumbo bag of standard. But I will be keeping this in mind rather than heading off to potentially spread illness if you're supposed to be isolating.

CovidAnni · 15/11/2020 12:36

@TeapotCollection

Can you tell us which Tesco it is so that we can all avoid it
Grin Yes
elfycat · 15/11/2020 12:37

It's Morrisons Market Street... otherwise you're just buying their goods on ordinary prime and not the supermarket part.

TheDowagerDuchess · 15/11/2020 12:37

Just wanted to add, people just “scooting” to the shops after going to the testing centre has caused a massive spike in infections in an area close to me. The testing centre is in one of the poorest parts of the area too. So selfish.

Hope you’ve managed to use one of the many suggested options OP and not gone to the shops which would be a very selfish thing to do.

Foliageeverywhere122 · 15/11/2020 12:39

This sort of attitude is why the UK is in the situation it is :/

Foliageeverywhere122 · 15/11/2020 12:40

also you have no idea is your son got it from school, it sounds like you're a large household with fairly (ahem) relaxed attitudes to covid

MadameBlobby · 15/11/2020 12:42

@stackemhigh

You're allowed to go out and buy food in an emergency, and this IS an emergency if there is no way to get food delivered to you.

People here are just angry that they can'r beat you with a stick because you have already exhausted other options so they can't smugly tell you to do anything.

And yes, we have had CV-19 but was in the fortunate situation of family providing food.

It’s NOT an emergency. She’s got food. There are 6 adults who seem to eat like pigs if she has to do a big shop every 2/3 days, no one is going to starve because she can’t go to bloody Tesco.

Hello everyone,

We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circs, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong.

Though, we strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon.

Glitters100 · 15/11/2020 12:49

It sounds like you in panic mode (which is understandable) but try and keep calm, You’ve got enough food in for today- you said you have meat, chips and pasta.

You also have a big good shop bring delivered tomorrow so can you log on now and add extra food to it?

At least you know for next time to keep extra food in the house, especially if you’ve been tested, at least 3 days worth so you don’t have this panicked again.

Also your angry at the college for passing it on but if you go to Tesco you could do the same to someone else shopping/working there, so please stay at home.

KindnessCrusader · 15/11/2020 12:49

Wow. Where to start. You are being SO unreasonable.

Littleposh · 15/11/2020 12:52

You knew he was having a test.

You knew there was a chance he'd be positive.

You should have prepared for this outcome

Glitters100 · 15/11/2020 12:53

Actual I miss read, you haven’t got the shop being delivered- phone Tesco and see if they will add you in as a emergency shop.

burnoutbabe · 15/11/2020 12:54

can't you phone local taxi firm

Ask them to go to tescos/co-op and get MILK and BREAD or Cereal (ie 5 items maximum), pay them for taxi plus food and waiting time or whatever they want.

rc22 · 15/11/2020 13:02

You could also get takeaway delivered (left outside the door by delivery driver) for one or two meals if desperate.

Newmumatlast · 15/11/2020 13:05

There isn't no way. Lots of sensible suggestions. This isn't an emergency.
skittycat · 15/11/2020 13:06

YABU.

You are supposed to be isolating, not scooting around Tesco because you haven't explored the other options for having food delivered.

Takeaways, Amazon, Iceland, Deliveroo. Look into them all before selfishly going into a shop because you can't possibly survive on the bits of food you already have in.

Booksandwine80 · 15/11/2020 13:09

Oh the irony of this post Hmm

People like you are part of the reason we are all in the mess we are

Give your head a wobble Angry

Covidchameleon · 15/11/2020 13:09

The MN update is depressing- meaning there really is someone “scooting around” a Tesco knowing they’re likely infected.
Glad I went for click and collect today.

thelumberjack · 15/11/2020 13:13

Of course YABU to be 'fuming' with the teaching staff who are doing their job but to think it is perfectly reasonable for two CV contacts to be 'scooting' around Tesco.

You don't seem to want to take any personal responsibility for anything but are very happy to blaim everyone else (the teachers, the government whom you expect to supply tests to whoever you think should be eligible). If you have such a large family that you really need to shop every 2-3 days, why haven't you had the sense to buy a bit of extra food for the cupboard and freezer? You obviously knew that a positive CV test would be a possibility at some point. Why haven't you planned for this?
How can none of you have a single friend in the area?! As others have said there are NHS volunteers/ local volunteers via FB if you literally have no one. Even a click and collect would be much preferable to wandering around the supermarket.

Waveysnail · 15/11/2020 13:16

Phone local taxi company. They may ne willing to do a shop and drop off.

Elai1978 · 15/11/2020 13:17

Find your local Round Table on their website or Facebook. If there is one near you then I’m pretty certain they will be able to help.

Inkpaperstars · 15/11/2020 13:21

i can't quite see the point in the tests either, even if negative you will still have to isolate.

Dottyandbet · 15/11/2020 13:23

As the parent of a vulnerable child who is raging that your son has picked up covid from college I can’t believe that you’re now prepared to put other vulnerable people at risk by going to the supermarket while living with someone who is positive. The difference between unknowingly passing it on as an asymptotic carrier and knowingly putting people at risk is just that you have the opportunity not to put someone’s life at risk! You are the reason I do all my shopping online! It’s also a legal obligation to self isolate if you live with someone who has tested positive. Going out to the shop is totally different to going for a test. Please don’t be a selfish idiot.
